Country-Rap Star Colt Ford Says He 'Broke The Habit' After Amazing Weight Loss - Pictures
The country-rap artist has turned his life around after a major health scare, embracing a new lifestyle that helped him shed several pounds and break his worst habits.
Colt Ford, 55, recently revealed that his weight loss journey was an unexpected but welcome result of a terrifying heart attack in April 2024 that left him in a coma for eight days. The singer realized he needed to make serious changes to his lifestyle, and now, he is healthier than ever.

When Ford's wife, Megan, offered to take him to Waffle House for his birthday breakfast back in August, he realized he didn't even want to go. That was the moment he knew he had truly changed.

The Georgia-born singer, who once tipped the scales at 340 pounds, credits his near-death experience for pushing him to make drastic lifestyle changes. His health scare came after years of struggling with poor eating habits and a 2022 diagnosis of myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness.
He had already lost around 150 pounds by April 2024, when he collapsed on his tour bus in Arizona after a show, where his bass player discovered him unconscious. He had suffered a heart attack so severe that he flat-lined twice and required a 10-hour surgery.
Doctors placed him on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine, a last-resort measure for critically ill patients. The singer later learned that he had been given a 0.1% chance of survival. "My doctor said, 'I have no idea how you survived,'" Ford told People.

The medical crisis forced Ford to rethink his entire approach to health. Once a lover of Mountain Dew and fried chicken, he has now cut out fast food, opting instead for healthier choices. He mentioned that his order now at Whataburger would be a grilled chicken sandwich without the fries and other sides.
Ford also admitted to previously finding comfort in McDonald's, but now, he no longer even craves it. His wife also helped by buying him a treadmill, which he uses regularly.
The artist, who is also a professional golf player, is around 190 pounds today and has been open about his struggles, sharing updates with fans while maintaining a sense of humor about his journey. "I'm wearing a 32-inch waist now instead of 44 — but I've told everybody there's much easier diets," he said.
Despite the dramatic weight loss, he acknowledges that he still has a long way to go in regaining his physical strength. After waking up from his coma, he was too weak to even lift a Styrofoam cup filled with ice.
He even admitted to some nerves about returning to the stage in March, saying he wasn't "a hundred percent back strength-wise." He explained that his previous fears were limited to God, his mother, and perhaps Megan. Now, his recovery is also a concern.
Music remains a big part of Ford's healing process. His upcoming single, "Hell Out of It" with Michael Ray, was written before his heart attack, but now holds new meaning for him. "I'm going to be down here just living and loving the hell out of it. Just everything I do," he added.
He also expressed deep gratitude for his support system, from the staff at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, to his longtime friend Brantley Gilbert, who played a crucial role in ensuring he got the right medical care. His children, Annesly, 29, and Reynolds, 25, also motivated him to fight for his life.
