The "I Kissed a Girl" singer was performing mid-air in San Francisco when a prop malfunction drew audible gasps from the crowd. The moment, captured on video, sparked concern among fans.
Katy Perry is currently on the United States leg of "Lifetimes" tour, and the artist recently had a concert in San Francisco. During the show, the singer mounted a giant butterfly prop for the performance of her 2013 hit, "Roar."

A video of the performance shows her gliding above the audience on the mechanism as she sings. However, just as she is about to belt out the chorus, the butterfly suddenly dips and slightly tilts to the side.

The unexpected malfunction caused Perry to pause mid-song and drew audible cries from the crowd. In the clip, she can also be seen glancing up at the rigging system with visible alarm. The butterfly, whose wings no longer moved up and down, now swayed to the sides.

"Omg and she had no harness on," a third observed. "Why does she not have a harness on?" another viewer asked. Others noted that it wasn't just Perry who was at risk of injury.

"What if it had fallen and hit someone. Could have turned fatal. Can artists please stop doing this? Someone is gonna get hurt one day," one person noted. "Why? This is so dangerous for EVERYONE," another added.
It's not the first time the "Dark Horse" songstress used the prop on her tour. Unfortunately, it's also not the first time one of her "Lifetimes" shows made headlines for troubling reasons.

Two security personnel rushed in and tried to restrain the man, but he resisted, making it difficult for them to remove him from the stage. Meanwhile, Perry addressed the crowd with composure, "Well, there's never going to be another show like this. So just enjoy it, Sydney."
As she resumed singing, the security guards managed to usher the man to the side of the stage, where they were joined by two more personnel. Together, the team successfully escorted him off the platform and out of the spotlight.
The fan's actions sparked widespread concern online about Perry's safety and the event's security flaws. Viewers were quick to voice their alarm, with one asking, "Why did it take Security that long to help her?"

Another user painted a grim hypothetical scenario, "Absolutely. He put hands on her. What if he had done something worse - like tried to stab her? Way too many unhinged folks looking for online infamy. If I'm her I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about how much worse this could have been."

One comment pointed out, "Whoa her security team was not on the ball!! that has to be a frightening experience." Another fan echoed the sentiment, "She needs new security or not just rely on the venue's security. I'm shocked at how long it took them."
That same fan went on to compare the situation to another high-profile incident, "There's that video from a while ago when a fan tried to grab Taylor Swift's ankle during a concert, one of the ones before Eras, and security was right behind him. Less than a second behind. It took almost 10 seconds for security to get to this guy here."
The stage invader, Johnson Wen, who goes by "Pyjama Man" online, has been charged after disrupting Perry's concert. Wen, who shared footage of the incident on his social media, appeared to celebrate the moment, captioning one post, "@katyperry 💙Dear Katy Perry thank you for letting me Dance for you on Stage 💙 You are my Favourite Singer & Astronaut 👩🚀🚀."
Claiming he jumped on stage simply for fun, Wen posted another video from a different angle, again addressing Perry directly, "@katyperry Dear Katy Perry thanks for letting me Dance on Stage 💙 you made my Childhood Memmory [sic] since 2008 💙 I Dreamed about meeting you!! And now it has happened 💙."
In an interview with a media outlet, Wen reflected on the moment, saying Perry appeared frightened once she realized he wasn't part of the performers. "I was about to do like extra Fortnite moves but security got there too quick," he narrated.
Wen was taken into custody on the night of the incident. He was transported to Auburn Police Station, where he was formally charged with entering enclosed land without permission and obstructing someone in the course of their duties. He has since been granted bail and is scheduled to appear at Burwood Local Court on June 23.
The 25-year-old who is currently unemployed, living in a backpacker's hostel, and has made stage invasions a personal hobby, one that has taken him across the globe. He has interrupted major events such as the Olympics in Paris, the FIFA Women's World Cup, and the men's Cricket World Cup final in India.
His stunt at the cricket event reportedly ended in trouble, as he was quickly tackled amid heavy security presence. Despite insisting that he poses no threat, Wen's repeated actions have highlighted significant lapses in event security.
Prior to the Perry concert, he had already been banned from Olympic Park for storming The Weeknd’s stage, and he's now facing a six-month ban from the precinct.
Wen has accumulated approximately $20,000 in fines related to his antics. He now claims that the incident at Perry's concert will be his final one, citing the growing legal consequences of his behavior.
