Tech Influencer Lamarr Wilson Passes Away at 48 — Details Revealed
He was chasing the future, basking in the glow of a loyal fan base, and had just shared a message that spoke of calm and clarity. Then, without warning, the celebration stopped cold.
Lamarr Wilson, a digital creator celebrated for his high-energy tech videos and viral unboxings, has died at 48. The news, confirmed just recently by his family a month after his final post, sent shockwaves through the online communities that had followed his every move.
Known to millions as "That Unboxing Guy," Wilson built an empire across YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, pulling in more than three million followers with his comedic, fast-paced takes on gadgets, gaming, and everyday tech that turned ordinary products into must-watch moments.
A Family Statement That Shattered Fans
In a statement posted to Facebook on December 13, 2025, Wilson's family described him as "the 'go-to' member of the Wilson family" and a tireless creative spirit who "loved working with YouTube, Google, and all his social media platforms."
They revealed that Wilson had numerous projects underway with tech and media companies and had recently been appointed as a judge for the CES Innovation Awards scheduled for January 2026, an honor that underscored his influence in the industry.
Just weeks earlier, Wilson had marked a milestone that now reads as hauntingly poignant. His final personal post came on October 22, his 48th birthday, when he opened up about a health scare and a renewed sense of discipline that had transformed his life.
A Birthday Message That Now Feels Haunting
"Today is my 48th birthday & I'm down 48 pounds!" he wrote. "It shouldn't take a health scare like I had this year to get your #%&$ together, but hey, it worked, & I'm losing it all naturally, now that I figured out the discipline."
He continued with words that fans would soon revisit with aching disbelief, "I feel good, I'm genuinely at peace, and a key is keeping people out of my life who are determined to disrupt it with their inner chaos. We're not here on this Earth long enough to tolerate that. Don't let that happen to you!"
That message would stand as his last personal reflection. On November 12, Wilson shared a holiday tech gift guide video on TikTok featuring Belkin products, his final piece of content before his death.
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Wilson died at a residence on Friday, November 21. The official manner of death was ruled a suicide.
Fans Reel as News Sparks Online Grief
As the news spread, grief flooded social media, with fans struggling to reconcile the loss of a man who had brought humor and light into their daily routines.
"Lamarr was the kindest influencer out there 😭 He made the funniest tech reviews. The duo with Dashie 😭," one fan wrote.
Another shared, "So sorry for your loss 💝 Lamarr has never failed to cheer me up in such a dark era of my life. He was such an amazing human being. May he rest in peace ❤❤."
One stunned follower stated simply, "Don't believe it," while another added, "So sorry for your loss, he was such a very talented person🙏."
Nearly Two Decades of Digital Impact
Wilson's journey in digital content began in 2008 and stretched across nearly two decades. During that time, he collaborated with major tech giants, including Apple, Google, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Samsung, and PlayStation, becoming a trusted and familiar face for brands and viewers alike.
His guiding principle was "making life easier & fun," a mission reflected in everything from quick gadget rundowns to in-depth tutorials. He also appeared as a host and contributor on platforms such as "Daily Tech News Show," Mashable's "YouTube Weekly" and "Socially Awkward," and TWiT.tv's "This Week in YouTube."
Before stepping fully into the spotlight, Wilson spent more than ten years working in education. He served as a technology coordinator and consultant for Chicago Public Schools, helping implement digital systems in disadvantaged schools through the Striving Readers federal grant program. He also ran a chess program and provided tutoring to students in need.
His death came just as new opportunities were unfolding. In addition to the CES Innovation Awards role, Wilson had been appointed IT and social media advisor for I.A.M.W.O.C., an organization supporting military women of color, veterans, and their families.
A Legacy Rooted in Service and Strength
Family members credited his drive to a lineage steeped in service and resilience. His mother, a veteran of the U.S. Women's Army Corps, instilled a passion for education and entrepreneurship early on.
His aunt, Dr. Pamela Wilson, a retired U.S. Army Sergeant Major and president of I.A.M.W.O.C., emphasized perseverance and leadership. Another aunt, Renee Wilson, a U.S. Navy veteran, turned to children's books and community support through caregiving and web design.
His uncle Ronald Wilson, a retired firefighter and wrestling coach in Chicago, championed youth development, while aunt Cheryl Wilson Woodhouse, a retired Sergeant First Class, brought expertise in communications and justice.
His uncle Tony Wilson, himself a content creator and former frontman for the James Brown Band, played a pivotal role behind the scenes, helping with business logistics and inspiring Lamarr's early dreams.
In their statement, the family laid bare their grief. "We are heartbroken with this news of LaMarr's passing as he had so many projects in the making," they wrote. "We have so much love for his manage[ment] team, agents, as well [as] all the fans he mentored, helped or inspired."
Wilson leaves behind a digital world that feels quieter without him. As fans continue to replay his videos and share memories, his influence endures as a testament to creativity, discipline, and genuine connection.
