Celebrity image is usually presented as a finished product — polished, precise, and carefully controlled — which is exactly why the rare moments that feel more personal tend to hit the hardest.

From Alicia Keys' empowering honesty to Lindsay Lohan's internet-breaking bare-faced selfies, these images are equal parts glamorous, candid, and impossible to look away from, so scroll below to see over 50 photos showing some of the biggest names in the industry with and without makeup!

Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys didn't just go makeup-free…she helped turn it into a conversation. In a September 2016 interview on "Today," Keys said the experience felt "really empowering" and "really freeing," explaining that women face far too many limitations imposed on them by society and by each other.
She also made an important distinction: she isn't anti-makeup at all. In fact, the singer said she loves lip gloss, blush, and eyeliner, but she doesn't want to feel beholden to wearing any of it.
That was the heart of her point, and it still lands. "Today" Co-host Matt Lauer even compared the freeing feeling Keys spoke about to cutting his hair off and no longer worrying about covering a bald spot; once the pressure to hide disappears, the freedom kicks in.
Be yourself, have a great time, and do what feels good for you was her message, and honestly, that is exactly why her natural-beauty era has had such lasting power.

Tyra Banks
Tyra Banks gave fans the kind of no-makeup post celebrities say they're giving all the time, but rarely actually do. In a June 2015 Instagram post, Banks called out the whole fake-raw trend, joking about people who claim a photo is untouched when there's clearly "a freakin' filter" or "a smidge of retouching" involved.
The model admitted she desperately wanted to smooth out her dark circles, but then stopped herself and decided, "Naw, Ty. Show 'em the REAL you."
She even inadvertently referred to herself as looking "ROUGH," writing that maybe people would think, "Whoa, she looks ROUGH." But that was exactly the point. The message was crystal clear: raw and real beats polished and fake any day.

Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek's glam shots are always stunning, but her bare-faced close-ups may be even more compelling because of how unbothered she appears. In a June 2023 Instagram post, Hayek shared a makeup-free selfie that let her natural skin texture, subtle wrinkles, and a few gray strands show without apology.
Her caption was funny, honest, and very relatable: "Me waking up and counting how many white hairs and wrinkles have crashed the party this morning." Instead of pretending time isn't doing its thing, Hayek let it right into the frame. That kind of ease is its own flex.

Gabrielle Union
Gabrielle Union made the no-makeup look feel less like a beauty statement and more like a lifestyle one. In a December 2020 Instagram post, she paired her fresh-faced selfies with a caption that reads: "Minding the business that pays me, loving boundaries, protecting my peace, staying moisturized, and drinking a gallon of water a day."
The whole vibe was calm, hydrated, and gloriously unbothered, and fans absolutely ate it up, especially her freckles.
The comments were direct and delighted, with people writing, "Freckles like me ❤️ love this my fav [sic];" "Looks like a 15 year old;" and "Looking like a teenager.😊💋💃."

Michelle Obama
Michelle Obama's black-and-white bare-faced selfie had warmth written all over it. In a January 2021 Instagram post, she thanked followers for their birthday wishes and reflected on how difficult the past year had been, adding that she hoped everyone was taking care of themselves and finding joy in the smallest moments.
It was simple, personal, and deeply likable, and the response in the comments matched that energy.
Admirers swooned, "Nice natural self...I am younger than her and [sic] my eye circles are screaming BANDIT!!!!" "You are more beautiful in your natural glory! Happy belated Birthday Mrs. Obama😘;" and "Still gorgeous as ever. Beautiful skin. She doesn't have to wear the makeup. Her hair is beautiful. A natural beautiful black woman all around [sic]."

Naomi Watts
Naomi Watts brought a little art-historical humor to her no-makeup moment. In a February 2016 Instagram post, she shared a makeup-free selfie and joked, "Somehow this looks like an attempt at #Vermeer #pearlearring," adding that she was enjoying a little "#Metime" after a facial as part of her Oscars prep.
The post hit that great celebrity sweet spot: self-aware, relaxed, and not trying too hard. The compliments rolled in too, with commenters writing, "lovely with no makeup with as well.. but this is first time I've seen your face clean and gorgeous. very pretty woman [sic];" "Looking good, this natural 😊;" "Such beautiful skin!' and "Natural! The best look."

Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan's bare-faced selfies sparked exactly the kind of frenzy you'd expect from the internet: admiration, curiosity, and a whole lot of fixation on the details. In an August 2025 Instagram post, Lohan captioned her makeup-free photos, "Fresh face and ready for bed! 🛌 😴 😊."
But while many people were clearly intrigued by the soft, polished look, the comments quickly turned into a running discussion about what some viewers felt had changed.
Among the reactions were: "You look fantastic, but please stop trying to tell us that this is the result of green tea and olive oil on your skin. You have a completely different face now like [sic] a completely different face;" "How in the work did she get rid of the freckles?" "Where'd all your freckles go?" and "Wow Lindsay so beautiful but I could not recognise you. Where are your beautiful freckles and obviously tell us what you have done I need some tip too I am getting old [sic]."

More Stars Who Have Also Embraced the No-Makeup Look
The first seven women may drive the main conversation here, but they are hardly the only famous faces who have shown that glamor and bare skin can coexist. This next batch of images is a reminder that sometimes the most memorable celeb beauty moment is the one that looks the least produced.

Sharon Stone's makeup vs no-makeup look might be one of the strongest in the gallery because the contrast is so satisfying. In the photos above, she goes from classic, polished movie-star glamor to intimate, relaxed, and completely uninterested in chasing perfection. That confidence does a lot of heavy lifting.

Halle Berry has one of those faces that reads beautifully whether it is fully styled or totally stripped back. The full glam snapshots serve drama and precision, while the makeup-free ones feel warm, personal, and almost conversational. It is less performance and more presence.

Zoe Saldaña's makeup vs no makeup look feels especially striking because the red-carpet images are all sculpted elegance, while the bare-faced shots strip everything down to skin, expression, and bone structure.
There is something undeniably cool about a celeb who can deliver both high-glam precision and completely undone ease.

Taylor Swift's done-up images bring Hollywood glam and glitz, while the makeup-free snapshot has a much softer, behind-the-scenes feel.
It is a fun reminder that some of the most recognizable beauty looks in pop culture still come from a face that does not need much dressing up to hold attention.

Millie Bobby Brown's contrast is especially fun because some images are full-on event polish, while one of the other makeup-free snaps feels like she hit pause mid-beauty routine and snapped a selfie anyway.
The under-eye patches, the casual sweatshirt, the pout, it is playful, unfussy, and very much in line with the kind of casual candor fans love to scroll past and then immediately scroll back up to see again.

Carrie Underwood's makeup-free image has that unmistakable post-workout honesty to it: flushed skin, sweat, earbuds, and zero interest in pretending the gym is a red carpet.
Set next to the polished glam shots, it becomes a perfect example of why these galleries are so addictive: one photo sells fantasy, the other sells reality, and readers always want both.

Demi Moore closes the gallery on a strong note. The glam images are sleek, glossy, and unmistakably star-powered, but the bare-faced photo has its own appeal: natural light, glasses, no obvious fuss, and a kind of quiet confidence that does not need embellishment. That is really the through-line of this entire gallery.
Red-carpet makeup is not going anywhere, and frankly, it should not, because glamor is fun. But these women make one thing clear: when the lashes come off, the contour disappears, and the lighting gets less forgiving, what people respond to most is still the same thing Keys talked about years ago — honesty.
And in a celebrity culture built on polish, that may be the most eye-catching beauty move of all.
