Clint Eastwood has spent decades as one of Hollywood's most recognizable figures, building a career as an actor and Oscar-winning director through films ranging from Westerns and crime dramas to acclaimed projects behind the camera.

Away from filmmaking, he is also the father of a large family that includes six daughters and two sons. His daughters are Laurie, Kimber, Alison, Kathryn, Francesca, and Morgan Eastwood, while his sons are Kyle and Scott Eastwood.

Among them, Scott, who was born on March 21, 1986, in Monterey, California, to Clint and flight attendant Jacelyn Reeves, has followed particularly closely in his father's professional footsteps, establishing an acting career of his own.

Although having a Hollywood heavyweight for a father could have opened plenty of doors outside the film industry, Scott has repeatedly described a childhood in which hard work and independence were emphasized.

"My dad was always super-active and got me in the gym at a young age. He wanted me to be health-conscious. Healthy body, healthy mind; that's what he preached to me."

The same old-school approach applied to money and work. Scott said he had held jobs for as long as he could remember and was not simply handed expensive possessions because of his father's success.

"My first car was a '91 Ford Crown Victoria that was $1,000," he said. "And I had to buy every car after that. I had to do it all." More than a decade later, Scott offered another glimpse into just how seriously Clint took that philosophy.

During an August 2026 appearance on actor Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, Scott recalled trying to persuade his father to buy him a car when he was younger. "My dad wouldn't buy me a car," he revealed. "I made that pitch, and that didn't go well."

After high school, he attended Santa Barbara City College and worked as a barback in what he described as a "seedier area." Without the car he had hoped his father would provide, he traveled by bicycle.

At the time, Scott said he was "furious" about Clint's refusal. Looking back as an adult, however, he believed the decision was "probably for the best," particularly because it forced him to understand what money represented. He added:

"One, the value of money and what that is and learning respect for that ... I think that's the principal lesson that he wanted me to know, that like this doesn't grow on trees and you better go out and earn it."

He also recognized another practical consideration behind the decision, questioning what an 18- or 19-year-old might do after being given a car, including the possibility of drinking and driving or "doing something stupid."

Clint's attitude toward money apparently remained unchanged despite his decades of Hollywood success. Scott described his father as someone with little interest in material possessions, connecting that outlook to the era in which he grew up.

"He's not a material guy. He comes from a very different generation," Scott explained. "He was born in 1930, so he saw the real lows of the Great Depression and that stuck with him forever."

Even something as small as leaving a light switched on could still get his father's attention. "He still to this day will be telling you to turn off a light if you left the house. Like, 'Why the hell didn't you turn off the light?'" Scott shared.

Those lessons in earning his own way extended into the profession that eventually connected father and son even more closely. Scott worked to secure a part in one of Clint's movies and was ultimately cast in "Gran Torino."

His career later included roles in "The Longest Ride," "Snowden," "The Fate of the Furious," "Pacific Rim," and "Suicide Squad."

Clint also encouraged him to consider what happened behind the camera rather than relying solely on acting opportunities. Discussing his interest in directing in 2016, Scott recalled another piece of advice from his father:

"Like he says, it's feast or famine for an actor. If you're not creating your own material, then you're just fighting for whatever's out there. I definitely have the desire to go to the other side."
