Disney Channel’s 'Zombies' Actress Carla Jeffery's Final Instagram Post Emerges After Her Sudden Death at 33

Carla Jeffery's death has left her Zombies family and longtime fans struggling to process a loss that came with little warning. Now, the actress’ final Instagram post is drawing attention for just how joyful and carefree it appears in hindsight.

Carla, who played the beloved cheerleader Bree Prattle in Disney Channel's Zombies franchise, died on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at age 33. Her manager, Carla Alexander of Alexanders Talent Management, announced the news in a memorial post shared on Carla's Instagram page. Her cause of death has not been disclosed.

The agency remembered Carla as someone who had been part of its family since she was just 12 years old, describing the actress as a "beautiful, vibrant, and incredibly talented woman" whose radiant smile could light up any room.

The memorial graphic identified Carla’s dates as July 10, 1993, to September 1, 2026, and honored her for bringing "joy, humor, and bright spirit" to audiences around the world through her role as Bree.

"May be gone from this world but not from our hearts. Rest in Peace Carla J. Jeffery❤️🙏🏾," the post's caption read. The announcement came as a shock to those who had followed Carla's career from her childhood acting days through her years on Zombies.

Long before Carla became known to Disney Channel viewers as Bree Prattle in Zombies, she had already spent years building a career in television and film.

Carla's Career Began When She Was Just 12

Carla began acting at just 12, making her screen debut in the 2006 film Phat Girlz alongside Mo'Nique. A year later, she joined Curb Your Enthusiasm as Keysha Black, appearing in 10 episodes across the show's sixth and seventh seasons, according to Entertainment Weekly and Deadline.

She continued building an eclectic résumé with appearances on Southland, iCarly, Good Luck Charlie, Shake It Up, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Scream Queens and American Vandal, along with films including Teacher of the Year, Girl on the Edge and Exchange.

Then came the role that would make her a familiar face to a new generation: Bree Prattle in Disney Channel’s Zombies. Carla played the cheerful Seabrook cheerleader in all three films and later voiced Bree in Zombies: The Re-Animated Series.

By the time of her death, Bree had become far more than just another role on Carla’s résumé — it was the character through which countless young viewers came to know her.

She Wanted Young Black Girls to See Themselves

Carla's significance to her young audience extended beyond the role itself. In an interview on The Tokens Podcast, Carla spoke about the importance of representation and her desire to be someone young Black girls could look up to.

"I'm the token Black girl, and I'm the big Black girl," she explained. "I can show it just for all my Black girls, but also for the thick ones, and that's what I wanted to try to represent as I was going forward."

She said seeing people dress up as Bree had an emotional impact on her because she had never imagined herself becoming someone else's inspiration. "I guess I never thought I'd see myself as somebody's inspiration."

Carla also spoke about the responsibility she felt toward young viewers who saw themselves in her.

"It's not about how big you are and everything; you've got young Black girls looking up to you," she said. "I'm just like, 'That's what I want to keep doing. I'm just beyond happy that I actually get to be a part of that and helping them girls [sic]."

Her role as Bree therefore carried a significance that went well beyond the Zombies storyline. For Carla, representation was personal — and she understood what it meant for a child watching at home to finally see someone who looked like them on screen.

Carla Had Also Spoken Openly About Epilepsy

Carla was similarly candid about another part of her life that she had once kept private. In July 2022, she publicly identified herself as an epilepsy advocate on X.

Her disclosure became part of a broader willingness to speak openly about her experiences and use her platform to connect with others. However, there has been no reported connection between Carla's epilepsy and her death, and her cause of death has not been disclosed.

That lack of information has left her sudden passing especially difficult for those who knew and loved her.

And then there is Carla's final Instagram post — a glimpse of her life that feels particularly poignant now.

Her Final Instagram Post Was Filled With Joy

The post was shared on July 27, 2026, just over a month before her death, and it was dedicated to her Zombies co-star Meg Donnelly. There was nothing somber about it. Carla appeared to be enjoying a lively night out as she celebrated Meg’s birthday, filling her caption with affection, excitement and an unmistakable party spirit.

There is no hint in the post of health troubles, distress or anything suggesting that Carla was facing an imminent crisis. That contrast is difficult to miss following her sudden death. But in hindsight, it offers one of the last public glimpses of Carla as she wanted to be seen: joyful, affectionate and surrounded by celebration.

Her 'Zombies' Family Struggles to Say Goodbye

Following news of Carla's death, her former Zombies co-stars began sharing emotional memories of the actress. Chandler Kinney, who played Willa in the franchise, remembered Carla as "the sweetest, most sparkly gal" in an Instagram tribute posted Wednesday, September 2.

"This doesn't feel real," Chandler began. "Carla🩷 the sweetest, most sparkly gal. You made every day better and brighter with your infectious positivity."

She reflected on the similarities between Carla and the character she played, writing that Bree's bubbly personality was an extension of who Carla was in real life.

"I think part of why you brought such effervescence to bree (aside from your immense talent) is because that's really who you were in your heart; a bubbly, vivacious heart-of-gold cheerleader who loved nothing more than to uplift those around her."

Chandler said she felt grateful to have known Carla's love and would miss laughing with her and watching her perform her signature splits on dance floors.

"I'm going to miss laughing with you and watching you break out your signature splits on any & every dance floor. You're a legend in my eyes, and your legacy of bringing joy and comfort to people everywhere will live on forever. I love you so much, CarlaBoo."

Milo Manheim Remembered 'Carlaboo'

Milo Manheim shared several Instagram Stories, beginning with a cast photo before posting a picture of himself alongside Carla in their Zombies 3 makeup. "Love you Carlaboo, the sweetest, kindest, most loving person," Milo wrote.

He also shared a humorous scene from Carla's appearance on iCarly, in which she danced with Gibby Gibson, played by Noah Munck.

Milo later shared a video featuring Carla in her bright pink Seabrook cheerleading uniform on the set of Zombies 3. The posts offered fans glimpses of Carla away from the formal memorials — laughing, performing and surrounded by the castmates who had become part of her career.

Another Castmate Trevor Tordjman Says Her Energy Won't Be Forgotten

Trevor Tordjman also remembered Carla through Instagram Stories, sharing two cast photographs from their time together on Zombies. "Carla, you will be missed," he wrote on the first slide, followed by dove and broken-heart emojis.

"Will never forget your energy," Trevor added on the second. "Truly one of a kind." The tributes shared a strikingly similar theme: Carla was remembered not simply as a talented actress, but as someone whose personality made the people around her feel lighter.

Ariel Rebecca Shares a Collection of Memories

That same affection came through in a series of Instagram Stories from Ariel Rebecca Martin, who plays the werewolf Wynter Barkowitz in the "Zombies" franchise.

The actress shared several personal photographs of Carla and memories from their time together. In the first slide was more intimate, featuring a throwback photograph of Ariel and Carla posing closely together. Across the image, Ariel wrote, "Carla, I love you endlessly."

Ariel then shared a collage of photographs featuring Carla with friends and fellow Zombies cast members, including playful group shots and candid moments away from the set.

The next collage continued that collection of memories, showing Carla laughing, posing, and spending time with the people around her, with several photographs connecting back to her years working on the Zombies franchise.

In the final slide, Carla appeared in her bright pink Seabrook cheerleading uniform, leaning playfully across a restaurant or café counter as Ariel posed with her. Across the photo, Ariel wrote, "to know carla jeffery is to love her 💗"

Together, the four slides offered a deeply personal glimpse of Carla beyond her work as an actress. The photographs showed the friendships, laughter, and affection that existed around her when the cameras were not rolling.
