King Charles III and Prince William Share a Surprising Common Ground on Harry and Meghan — and Insiders Say There's No Doubt About It
Prince Harry may be finding a way back to his father, but his relationship with Prince William remains frozen. That contrast makes one royal agreement especially notable.
Harry's return to England has highlighted the sharp difference between his ties with King Charles III and Prince William. One issue, however, puts the King and his heir firmly on the same side.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to England on August 26, 2026, shortly after revealing plans to establish a non-royal home base in the U.K., according to People.
Harry, 42, and Meghan, 45, stepped away from their roles as working royals in 2020 and later settled in Montecito, California. They returned to Britain with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The visit comes as Harry's relationships with his father and older brother have taken noticeably different directions.

Harry Has Met With Charles But Still Isn't Speaking With William
Harry's recent contact with King Charles, 77, included a July meeting at Highgrove with the monarch and Queen Camilla.
No comparable contact has taken place between Harry and William, 44. The magazine reported that the brothers remain estranged and are not communicating directly.

The difference between those two relationships has not, however, created a split between Charles and William over Harry and Meghan's position in relation to the monarchy.
Royal author Russell Myers addressed where the King and the Prince of Wales stand as Harry follows a different path outside the working royal family.

"The King and William are completely united on the Sussexes not representing the royal family," Russell told the outlet. Russell left little room for uncertainty about the extent of that agreement: "It's without a doubt how in sync they are on this matter."
William Separates Charles' Relationship With Harry From His Own
Charles' renewed contact with Harry also appears to operate separately from William's relationship with his younger brother.
Since Harry and Meghan arrived in Britain, Charles and Harry have spoken at least once, although they have not met in person during that period. No reconciliation between the brothers has been reported.
Russell described William as treating his father's dealings with Harry as Charles' decision while setting a different course for himself.

"William's view is clear - any relationship his father has with Harry or the Sussexes as a family is entirely up to him," Russell said. "But looking toward the future, he will have no relationship with them, in a working or private capacity whatsoever."
William and Catherine Put Their Focus on Family and Royal Work
Against that backdrop, William and Princess Catherine have continued with their family life and public responsibilities. Royal author Simon Vigar connected their approach to a longstanding philosophy associated with the royal family.

"It is keep calm and carry on. They see it as a sideshow and ancient history," Simon said.
Their September activities included seeing Prince George begin his first year at Eton College. The Prince and Princess of Wales also undertook several royal engagements, including a joint appearance tied to one of William's mental health initiatives on World Suicide Prevention Day.

"They are shining a light on things that are important to them," Alisa said. "What they don't want is all this other noise becoming a distraction."
Keeping that focus does not necessarily mean questions about Harry will disappear. Royal historian Amanda Foreman described the pressure she believes Prince William and Catherine will continue to encounter because of the estrangement.

"It will be incredibly draining," Amanda said. "They will always have to look over their shoulders and factor them in. And all they can do is deflect. Yet, they'll get lots of jabs and questions: 'When are you going to make up with your brother?'"
