He quickly became a familiar face in "Stuart Little," "The Little Vampire," and "Like Mike." But as those childhood roles slipped further into the past, Lipnicki largely disappeared from Hollywood's mainstream spotlight.

Now 35, the former child star has returned to a Los Angeles red carpet for the first time in two years. The striking new photos reveal just how dramatically his life has changed since audiences first fell in love with him — and raise the inevitable question of what happened during all those years in between.

Jonathan Lipnicki Returns to the Red Carpet

Lipnicki stepped out September 23 for the Los Angeles premiere of "Primetime." According to E! News, Lipnicki had not been seen on a red carpet for two years before the outing. Dressed in a vivid green suit and black shirt, Lipnicki finished his premiere look with a purple pocket square.

"Primetime" director Lance Oppenheim joined Lipnicki for photos at the premiere, where the actor was later seen posing closely with a female companion who appeared to have accompanied him to the event.

His companion complemented his colorful look in a purple dress as they smiled for the cameras together. For fans who still remembered Lipnicki primarily as the adorable little boy from his blockbuster movies, his grown-up appearance was hard to ignore.

"Young dude is seriously aging well," one Instagram user commented. Another wrote, "Guy went through a whole huge transformation." The photographs also prompted questions about what had brought Lipnicki to the "Primetime" premiere after so much time outside the mainstream spotlight.

One Reddit user asked, "With all the recent deaths of child actors, nice to see him looking healthy and normal—is he in the film? Producing?" The answer reveals a chapter of Lipnicki's story that may surprise people who assumed his acting career had quietly faded away.

His Connection to 'Primetime' Goes Beyond the Premiere

Lipnicki was not simply a guest at the event. He is part of the "Primetime" cast. The Robert Pattinson-led film examines Chris Hansen's "To Catch a Predator." Phoebe Bridgers also appears in the movie, while Lipnicki plays a predator.

Ahead of the film's September 25 theatrical release, Lipnicki promoted it on Instagram. "Have a seat. @primetimemovie is out TOMORROW!" he wrote.

The role provides a very different answer to the question of what became of Lipnicki after his childhood fame. He never simply vanished from acting.

Lipnicki Never Deliberately Walked Away

Lipnicki was born October 22, 1990. He was just five when he landed his first movie role. In 1996's "Jerry Maguire," he played Ray Boyd alongside Cruise and Zellweger, becoming instantly recognizable to movie audiences.

More family films quickly followed. He played George Little in 1999's "Stuart Little," starred in 2000's "The Little Vampire," and appeared as Murph in "Like Mike" in 2002.

But as Lipnicki grew older, his once highly visible career became much harder for audiences to follow. Years later, he directly challenged the assumption that he had deliberately turned his back on acting.

"Really, it was kind of just going to high school," he told E! News in January 2025. "I wasn't, like, 'I'm stepping away.' I still had my agent, I'd audition here and there." Acting was no longer the only thing consuming his life.

Lipnicki attended public school, played water polo and youth league sports, and went to prom. He credited his parents with helping guide him through those years.

But school was not the only reason audiences stopped seeing him everywhere. "I auditioned for a lot, and I just didn't get things," he said. Even during those stretches without roles, Lipnicki kept pursuing acting.

His Acting Credits Kept Growing

After high school, Lipnicki took acting classes, something he later described to People as the "best thing" he had done. He then began appearing in more independent movies and Los Angeles stage productions.

Other projects have included "Interns of F.I.E.L.D.," "Loserville," "Circus Kane," "Altitude," "Mr. Student Body President," "Broil," and "2nd Chance for Christmas." More recently, Lipnicki appeared in "The Joe Schmo Show," "Cottonmouth," and "Sarah's Oil" in 2025.

His 2026 acting credits include "Anywhere" and, of course, "Primetime." The distinction is crucial: Lipnicki may have disappeared from blockbuster Hollywood, but his acting career never disappeared with him.

In fact, he pointed out years ago that he had accumulated more movie credits as an adult than he ever had as a child. Today reported that fact in 2017 while covering Lipnicki's reflections on growing up after early fame. And acting was not the only direction his career took.

He Also Moved Behind the Camera

Lipnicki eventually expanded into producing. His production credits include "Broken Roads," "You Used to Be Cute," "Welcome to Willits," "Altitude," and "Initiation."

He served as an executive producer on "Broken Roads" and "Altitude." He produced "You Used to Be Cute" and was an associate producer on "Welcome to Willits" and "Initiation."

His current slate suggests that this side of his Hollywood career is only growing. IMDb lists Lipnicki as an executive producer on four upcoming projects: "Williston," "Mazel Tough," "Godshot," and "Dog Years."

"Williston" and "Dog Years" are listed in post-production. "Mazel Tough" is in pre-production, while "Godshot" is listed as completed. Some of those projects are also putting Lipnicki back in front of the camera.

He plays Tom in "Williston," which also stars Matt Walsh and Geneva Carr. Lipnicki is additionally set to play Nathan in "Mazel Tough" while serving as one of its executive producers. But behind that steady stream of work is an adult career Lipnicki himself has described with striking candor.

His Adult Career Has Had Ups and Downs

In May 2025, Lipnicki spoke to People about the difference between the success he experienced as a child and where he found himself as an adult. "I had some really good things that happened when I was younger," he said.

He was equally direct about his position at the time. "It's totally fine to say I'm not where I want to be career-wise," Lipnicki said. Some of his adult projects were work he considered good, but that barely attracted attention.

Other experiences taught him to become much more selective. "I've had half-and-half in my adult career where there are some things that were really good, and nobody saw them," he explained.

By the time of the interview, Lipnicki said he had recently turned down several movie offers. "To be quite honest, I said no to about five movies in the last year," he said. "I just really want to turn this ship around."

Lipnicki had already made another move in that direction with a television role that forced him to play with the very public image he had spent years carrying.

'The Joe Schmo Show' Gave Him a Different Role

Lipnicki appeared in TBS' "The Joe Schmo Show" in 2025. The series follows a "normal" person who believes he is participating in a reality show, unaware that the entire production surrounding him is an elaborate prank.

Lipnicki played an exaggerated, egotistical version of himself. He told People that the project was "a step in the right direction." The role also took him "outside [his] comfort zone," which he said was the aspect he was "most proud of."

"As an actor growing up in this industry, you want to be on your best behavior, and I got to be on my worst," Lipnicki said. "There was something empowering about that in a weird way."

His comments came during a period in which he was speaking openly about the work required to continue acting after childhood success. Lipnicki told E! News that acting classes became part of that process.

"What I can control is: I wasn't very good at acting and I had to go to acting class," he said. He explained that he believed he had lost track of himself for a period and needed to work on what he could control.

And it was far from the first time Lipnicki had opened up about the darker side of growing up in the public eye.

Childhood Fame Came With a Painful Price

In 2017, Lipnicki disclosed that he had been "relentlessly" bullied as a child. According to Today, he said other children called him a "has-been." He also revealed that the bullying contributed to panic attacks and anxiety when he was younger.

By then, Lipnicki was still appearing in smaller films and occasional television projects. Away from acting, Lipnicki also trained regularly in mixed martial arts. Despite the more difficult parts of his experience, he remained grateful for getting such an early start in entertainment.

"I got to find out from a young age what I wanted to spend the rest of my life pursuing, so I can never be mad at it," he told E! News in 2025. "I am living more in the present now and really trying to focus on who I am now and what that's going to look like in the future. But I'm extremely grateful for my past."

Lipnicki was just as clear with People about whether acting remained part of that future. "This is the thing I want to do for the rest of my life, and I think you just have to believe it's going to happen and do everything in your power to take action in the right direction," he said.

And despite the rejection, bullying, career setbacks, and years spent outside the Hollywood spotlight, Lipnicki remained convinced that his biggest chapter might still be ahead of him.
