Hayden Panettiere's engagement ring from Wladimir Klitschko was one of the most sentimental pieces she owned — and now, it has reportedly disappeared. As questions continue to surround the actress' final days, people close to her have a disturbing theory about what happened to the jewelry.

The missing piece dates back more than a decade, to the beginning of one of the most significant relationships in Hayden's life. In 2013, the Nashville star became engaged to former professional boxer Wladimir Klitschko after the pair had been dating on and off since 2009.

The Ring Hayden Designed Herself

The couple would eventually welcome their daughter, Kaya Klitschko, and although their relationship ended in 2018, Hayden held onto her engagement ring for years afterward. The ring was particularly personal because Hayden didn't simply choose it from a display case.

During an October 2013 appearance at the Environmental Media Awards, she revealed to E! News that she had designed the ring herself with Montblanc. "They made me this amazing book where they did a bunch of sketches," Hayden said. "I told them my idea over time and tweaking things here and there, it came to fruition."

The finished piece featured an emerald-cut center diamond and a split-shank setting, according to contemporary reports. And it was far from an ordinary keepsake. The ring was estimated at as much as $500,000.

Hayden Kept the Ring Long After the Engagement Ended

At the time, Hayden was clearly thrilled with the finished design, although she was far more guarded about the story behind it. She declined to reveal exactly how Wladimir proposed, describing the proposal only as "romantic."

Hayden had officially announced their engagement just weeks earlier during an appearance on Live With Kelly & Michael, following speculation after she was photographed wearing the enormous sparkler.

The relationship between Hayden and Wladimir would later end, but the ring apparently remained in her possession. That makes what happened to it in the final days of her life especially striking.

Then the $500,000 Ring Suddenly Disappeared

According to Us Weekly, Hayden's engagement ring went missing in the final days of her life. A source told the publication that the sentimental jewelry is now nowhere to be found. "Hayden's engagement ring from Wlad that she's held onto for all this time is missing," the source revealed.

The disappearance reportedly has people close to the actress wondering whether the ring was simply misplaced — or whether someone deliberately took it.

And that is where the story takes a troubling turn.

Friends and Family Suspect Someone Close to Her Took It

According to the source, people close to Hayden believe someone who was around her during her final days may have taken the ring. "Friends and family think that someone who was with her in her final days took it when they were pawning her things," the insider added.

The allegation is just that — a suspicion from people close to Hayden —, and Us reported that it had not been established who, if anyone, took the ring.

Still, the claim adds another unsettling detail to the aftermath of Hayden’s death. The actress died on August 16, 2026, and authorities determined that her death was accidental. Her father, Skip Panettiere, mourned her as someone who brought love and joy to those around her and to millions of fans, while asking for privacy as the family processed the loss.

Hayden's Final Weeks Were Already Complicated

The missing ring comes against the backdrop of a difficult period in Hayden's final weeks.

According to a detailed report previously obtained by Us from the Greenville County Coroner's Office, Hayden's on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson, or his brother Zach Hickerson, told authorities that she had been "in a drug rehab facility" in Malibu "up until a few weeks" before her death.

The coroner ultimately determined that Hayden's death was accidental, attributing it to the effects of multiple substances found in her system. Now, the disappearance of a piece of jewelry worth up to half a million dollars has become part of the complicated questions surrounding the actress' final days.

The Ring Is Also Tied to a Bigger Family Dispute

The missing engagement ring is not the only issue involving Hayden's belongings and estate. The development comes as Wladimir is involved in a legal battle concerning their daughter, Kaya, and efforts to protect his daughter's inheritance.

According to the reporting provided by Us, court filings have raised allegations involving missing jewelry, destroyed emails, and unauthorized access to Hayden's property.

Those legal issues add another layer to the mystery surrounding the missing ring, particularly because the jewelry was not merely valuable. It was a piece Hayden had personally designed, worn during one of the most important relationships of her life and kept even after that relationship ended.

As we previously reported, Hayden's life as a mother was marked by profound highs and painful struggles, from postpartum depression and addiction to years of living apart from her daughter, Kaya. Her relationship with Kaya remained deeply important to her, even as she openly grieved the realities of raising her daughter from a distance.

A Pregnancy Filled With Unexpected Fears

Hayden and Wladimir's journey as parents began with joy in December 2014, although Hayden would reveal years later that the months surrounding her daughter's arrival had been far more frightening than anyone outside the family knew. During her pregnancy, an OB-GYN became concerned that her baby's arms and legs were not developing as quickly as the rest of her body.

A radiologist later determined that Kaya's limbs were fine, but another concern emerged when doctors focused on the size of her head. Hayden wrote in her memoir, "This Is Me: A Reckoning," that she was told her daughter had microcephaly and could potentially have a cognitive impairment.

While waiting for answers, she leaned on Wladimir, who told her about a Ukrainian tradition for good luck that involved kneeling before a tree, holding it with both hands, and praying. Weeks later, he was beside her when Kaya was born in Hawaii on December 9, 2014. The couple publicly celebrated, stating:

"We are over the moon and madly in love!"

Kaya's Birth Came With a Medical Emergency

Behind that announcement, however, Hayden was recovering from a delivery that had turned into an emergency. Doctors called a code crimson during her C-section when her blood would not clot, leading to a three-hour operation, and she later learned that her uterus had become infected.

What followed was another struggle the actress had not expected. Instead of experiencing motherhood as she had imagined it, she found herself emotionally numb and unable to understand why bonding with her newborn seemed like an "insurmountable task."

Her "natural optimism and pep" disappeared, she wrote, and she began feeling as though she was "raising Kaya alone." Alcohol gradually became part of how she coped. The actress remembered pouring herself a glass of wine so full that it "almost overflowed," and her drinking worsened after she returned to work on "Nashville."

The Motherhood Struggle Hayden Never Expected

Eventually, the "Nashville" star became relieved when Wladimir was not around to see the empty bottles she discarded, and she reached a point where she needed alcohol to get out of bed and go to work.

When Kaya was four months old, Hayden entered treatment and was diagnosed with postpartum depression. Medication helped keep her from "cracking," she said, but brought another difficulty. She added:

"If I didn't take them, I couldn't sleep. If I did, I slept too much."

On one occasion, she awoke in a hospital after someone from work found her asleep and could not wake her. It was not long before the late actress returned to drinking, initially convincing herself that no one could smell it on her breath.

As her addiction continued, the consequences reached her career and home life; she lost her Neutrogena contract, and her relationship with Wladimir deteriorated.

Their disagreement over what she was experiencing became clear in one exchange she later recalled. After Hayden told Wladimir she still did not feel like herself despite treatment, he said happiness was a choice. "You think my depression is a choice?" she remembered responding.

As their relationship broke down, Kaya began moving between her parents until Wladimir eventually sought full custody because he was concerned about their daughter being in Hayden's care while she was still recovering. Hayden initially defended herself but ultimately chose not to fight him for custody.

From 2018 onward, Kaya lived primarily with her father in Europe, a change that reshaped Hayden's experience of motherhood and that she would continue to grieve. They maintained their relationship through visits and travel, but much of the ordinary closeness between a parent and child had to cross a screen. She wrote in her memoir:

"Not being under the same roof with her every day has been the most gut-wrenching experience of my life, and it's hard to describe the layers of emotion — including sadness, resentment, and anger — I've felt because of it."

The actress was equally candid about what she believed she had lost. "I grieve that I'm not the mother I thought I'd be and definitely not the mother I want to be," she admitted. Yet those feelings existed alongside the love and pride she repeatedly expressed for Kaya. "Trust me, no one should ever have to raise a child on FaceTime," Hayden shared.

But even as she acknowledged how much the separation hurt, she called Kaya "the greatest gift of my life" and said she felt blessed to be her mother. The distance, the "Nashville" star believed, did not erase their connection.

She described their bond as "strong," and as Kaya grew older, her mother's public comments increasingly focused not on how far apart they lived but on the person her daughter was becoming.

Speaking to People in 2024, Hayden could barely separate her pride from her amazement at how much of herself she recognized in the then-nine-year-old. "She is amazing. I mean, she is so much like me. It's crazy," she said.

Kaya already spoke English, Russian, Ukrainian, and German and was learning French, prompting Hayden to call her "a genius" while joking, "She doesn't appreciate it now." There were other similarities, too.

Kaya loved horses, a passion that ran in Hayden Panettiere's family, as well as swimming, which carried another connection for her mother: Hayden had spent much of her pregnancy swimming while filming "Nashville."

Those small details became part of the motherhood Hayden did have, even when it looked different from the one she once expected. She did not hide the addiction and depression that altered her family, nor did she disguise how deeply she mourned living apart from Kaya.

At the same time, when she spoke about her daughter, she returned repeatedly to pride, love, and the strength of their relationship.
