Their relationship is not the only area where Cheyne has shown commitment and passion. After graduating from UC Berkeley with a degree in French and Psychology and a minor in Creative Writing, Cheyne pursued an MFA in Screenwriting through an online program.

Though she humbly noted that much of her knowledge came from self-teaching, the foundation gave her essential tools to build her craft. Drawn to the visual and collaborative nature of screenwriting, she found her true calling in the field.

Among her works is "Mary Astor's Diary," a screenplay based on the real-life 1936 Hollywood scandal involving a child custody case during the era of the Hays Code.

Lynch recalled being impressed when Cheyne managed to use travel miles for purchases they had planned. "I'm so grateful for you," she told her partner, admitting she couldn't have figured it out on her own.

Lynch also praised Cheyne's practical skills. Despite her gentle and feminine nature, Cheyne handles repairs around the house with ease.

Jane Lynch Shares the Simple Way She Proposed Before Their 2021 Wedding

The couple tied the knot in 2021, sealing their years-long bond with marriage. In an interview from April 2022, Lynch spoke candidly about how she proposed to Cheyne, admitting the moment was far from dramatic — but filled with sincerity:

"Jennifer and I have been together forever and we were shopping for insurance for her and I said, 'Let's just get married.' So that's how romantic it went."

Though the proposal was practical, she called the wedding a "really beautiful thing." It took place at a historic courthouse in Santa Barbara, where Cheyne's son, Harry — ordained by the Universal Life Church — officiated the ceremony.

"It was just the three of us out in the courtyard at the courthouse. And it was lovely," said the five-time Emmy Award winner. Their quiet life together occasionally steps into the spotlight, especially during moments of celebration and community.

In July 2024, Lynch and Cheyne stepped out for the Montecito Fourth of July Parade in Santa Barbara. Lynch, dressed in patriotic colors, was seen smiling beside Cheyne and playfully cuddling a small dog, giving a nod to her "Best in Show" character.
