Jennifer Aniston and boyfriend Jim Curtis shared the spotlight at 92NY on September 2, 2026, as they came together for a special conversation celebrating his new book, The Book of Possibility. The evening looked like a sweet milestone for the couple — until fans started taking a much closer look at the footage.

As the couple arrived for Curtis' book event, viewers began closely watching the pair — and quickly noticed something they wanted explained.

On September 2, 2026, Aniston joined her boyfriend, bestselling author and transformational coach Curtis, at 92NY for a special conversation celebrating the release of his new book, The Book of Possibility. The appearance offered a rare public glimpse of the couple together as Aniston took part in the conversation surrounding Curtis' latest work.

The Book That Brought Aniston and Curtis Together in the Spotlight

The Book of Possibility is built around Curtis' approach to personal transformation, with the book's website describing it as a guided journey rather than something readers simply sit down and read.

Curtis walks readers through the process he uses with clients to shift identity at the subconscious level so that lasting change can happen from the inside out.

The book reflects the work Curtis has developed over more than two decades in the health and wellness space. His career has included leadership roles at WebMD, Everyday Health and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, as well as coaching entrepreneurs, creatives and public figures.

The romance behind the evening has also developed gradually in the public eye. In January, Curtis told TODAY that he and Aniston were introduced by friends after discovering they had mutual connections.

"The origin story? We were just introduced by friends," Curtis said. "Yeah, that’s it, we found out that we had mutual friends, and we started to just chat. It took a long time. We chatted for a long time, and we became close."

At the time, Curtis said the relationship had already been going on for "Months now, almost close to a year." He also admitted he was blushing when Melvin teased him about Aniston.

The relationship had already been attracting attention for months, including after Curtis was spotted supporting Aniston at the premiere of the fourth season of The Morning Show. The appearance added another public sign that Curtis was becoming part of Aniston's world.

Curtis Let Aniston Into the Book-Cover Process

The 92NY conversation also revealed just how involved Aniston had been in one surprisingly personal part of Curtis’ new project: choosing the book cover. According to PEOPLE, Curtis said writing the book itself came relatively easily, but choosing the cover became much more difficult because of his own concerns about the photograph and design.

"How many times have I asked you, 'Is this a good picture of me to put on this cover?' 'Should it be gold? Should it be gold writing?'" Curtis asked Aniston during the conversation. Aniston gave him a short answer: "You got a good picture."

PEOPLE reported that the couple's September 2 appearance was a rare joint outing and noted that Aniston had gone Instagram official with Curtis in November 2025. The outlet also reported that The Book of Possibility was set for release September 8.

Then the Walking Footage Became the Story

For viewers watching footage of the couple outside the event, however, the book quickly became secondary. Fans began paying close attention to how Aniston and Curtis were walking together — and especially to the cane in Curtis’ hand.

One Instagram commenter wrote, "Love them!!!!!! He's got it all!! Great match!" Another commenter wrote, "Wow, way to treat your boyfriend, girl." A third commenter asked, "What happened to her boyfriend ???"

Another asked, "Why is he using a cane? And .. not walking with her??" One viewer wrote, "Why is he always 10 steps behind her 😢 very sad." Another commenter asked, "What's wrong with his leg [sic]"

One person wrote, "Why he's [sic] behind her? That's weird. First time disappointed in her." Another viewer suggested, "Maybe she could slow down for him 😕" But there was also plenty of affection for the couple. One fan wrote, "🔥👏What a beautiful couple!!!!!❤️"

The same questions followed on Facebook, where another viewer asked, "Why he walks with a cane [sic]???" A second commenter wrote, "Does he always have a cane and walk like that? I wasn't aware."

And another fan focused less on the cane and more on Aniston's happiness, writing, "Omg so glad she has a boyfriend! And he's nice looking! She deserves that for sure to have somebody."

The Cane Has a Much Longer Story

Those questions about Curtis' cane have an important answer, because his mobility problems did not begin with his relationship with Aniston or with the 92NY appearance.

Curtis has publicly discussed having lesions on his spinal cord discovered when he was 22. In his 2018 interview with Fast Company, he explained that doctors could not determine exactly how the lesions began, but the condition left him dealing with pain, headaches, muscle spasticity, paralysis, and a chronic limp.

Curtis said the diagnosis was particularly difficult because it collided with the identity he had built for himself as an athlete and someone determined to succeed on Wall Street.

He ultimately continued his career, but for years he concealed his condition from colleagues and other people around him. "I was walking with a limp, and I didn’t want to get into the 'why.' So for most of the time I lied," Curtis said in the Fast Company interview.

He explained that he would sometimes tell people he had been in a motorcycle accident because he felt ashamed of having a medical condition. The explanation, he said, felt easier because it fit the image of the tough, athletic person he believed he was supposed to be.

Curtis also described how difficult it was to manage his condition while traveling for work. He recalled walking through major airports for miles rather than waiting for a wheelchair because he did not want to draw attention to his physical limitations.

Over time, however, Curtis said his relationship with his own health changed. At Remedy Health, he credited CEO Mike Cunnion with encouraging him to become more open about his struggles and to recognize the human side of both himself and the people around him.

The 92NY Conversation Put His Health Journey Front and Center

Curtis' health history was particularly relevant to the 92NY discussion because his experiences became part of the philosophy behind his work.

His own coaching website describes his journey through a chronic, misdiagnosed illness and emotional trauma as a foundation for the way he now helps people move beyond pain and step into what he considers the fullest version of themselves.

And during the 92NY conversation, Curtis was candid about just how frightening his illness had been. He described the discovery of the spinal-cord lesions as an "ultimate low" and recalled being in a New York City emergency room in severe pain while waiting for doctors to determine what was happening.

He said the experience changed his perspective, although not overnight. Curtis emphasized that accepting a difficult diagnosis does not mean ignoring medical advice, but that people do not have to see themselves permanently as victims of their circumstances.

His larger message was one of acceptance and self-love. The physical limitation that once made Curtis feel ashamed eventually became part of the story he now uses to help other people understand their own struggles.

And the Cane Wasn't New to Fans Who Had Been Watching

The 92NY footage may have surprised some viewers, but Curtis had already been photographed using a cane in New York. As noted in a report from People, he was seen with a cane for the first time during an August 2025 dinner in Manhattan's West Village with Aniston and their friends Jason Bateman and Amanda Anka.

Away from the questions about his health, Curtis has been increasingly open about his relationship with Aniston.

Curtis Has Also Given a Peek Inside Their Relationship

During his appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, he discussed how the couple handles their relationship and what they rely on when dealing with one another.

When asked whether he and Jennifer Aniston use the Ho'oponopono prayer at home, Curtis said, "We do a lot of meditation. We do a lot of talk, you know, like you, but um we don't use this particular prayer."

Curtis added, "Jen and I have been together a year and a half. So, this tool isn't, you know, isn't the first tool that we go to."

When asked what their first tool is, Curtis answered, "Yeah. Meditation, acceptance, understanding, you know, those kinds of things. And, you know, in a honeymoon phase, like your tools don't have to be like big sledgehammers."
