Kathy Griffin's New Outing with No Makeup Ignites Online Buzz
The comedian continues to thrive, showing resilience and strength despite facing serious health challenges over the years.
Kathy Griffin made a rare appearance on a stroll near her Los Angeles home on Tuesday, July 1, showcasing her natural red locks and bare face. Fans quickly flooded social media, some questioning whether it was really her due to her changed appearance, while others praised her for embracing her natural look.

The 64-year-old kept things casual on the outing. She was dressed in merchandise from her 2018 "Laugh Your Head Off World Tour," pairing a white T-shirt with black pants.
Her signature curly red hair was on full display, though noticeably different. Gone was her usual coiffed bang, with her forehead fully visible under the sun. Griffin also stepped out makeup-free, embracing a more natural look.
Her appearance quickly drew attention online, sparking a wave of reactions, from confusion and concern to fierce support. One viewer reacted in shock, asking, "Omg [sic] what happened to her 😢" Another person focused on her hair, writing, "Holy receding hairline." Someone else questioned her identity entirely, "What is wrong with her face?"
One person even doubted it was her at all, commenting, "I question is this woman is actually Kathy Griffin!" More people echoed this disbelief, "It doesnt [sic] even look like her!" And confusion continued with a comment that read, "Is this a joke or is that really her."
But not everyone was piling on. A more empathetic voice reminded others, "She's around 60, has PTSD, lost a lung, and is (literally) recovering from cancer. Leave her alone."
A passionate supporter stood up for the comedian, declaring, "This woman is a fighter and a true survivor. What has the world come to with all the online vitriol and body/looks shaming. Kathy Griffin you are a legend, beautiful inside and out, a comedy Goddess and an inspiration 🔥👏🙌."
Another fan applauded her confidence, "So what. Good for her! 😍She’s braver than I am. I wear makeup to the gas station and to the grocery. Let's stop making women feel bad for being themselves."
Griffin has battled serious health issues over the years. In August 2021, she took to X to announce she had been diagnosed with lung cancer. "I'm about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed. Yes, I have lung cancer even though I have never smoked!" she wrote.
Despite the shocking news, Griffin remained optimistic. Her doctors told her it was stage one and confined to her left lung, and they were hopeful that surgery alone would be enough, with no need for chemotherapy or radiation.
"I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less," she noted, confident in her recovery and eager to return to entertaining her fans. Thankfully, the tumor was successfully removed, and Griffin became cancer-free and officially a survivor.
Unfortunately, she also had another health scare earlier this year. On Monday, April 7, the comedian revealed on Instagram that she had recently undergone a hysterectomy due to a precancerous condition, though she didn't go into further detail. “They took out the uterus, the fallopian tubes & the ovaries," she noted.
Having gone through a rollercoaster of health challenges, Griffin's fans are simply glad to see her alive and well , walking the streets and continuing on with life. For many, her appearance was the least important detail, with supporters choosing to celebrate her strength rather than criticize her looks.
