David Bromstad's Twin Brother: Meet the HGTV Star's Look-Alike Older Sibling
The television star has undergone a significant transformation over the years in terms of physical appearance, which has led some to believe that he has a twin.
David Bromstad is best known for hosting HGTV's "My Lottery Dream Home." He has also teamed up with famous twins Drew and Jonathan Scott on "Brother vs. Brother." While the channel is known for its twin sibling hosts, David is not one of them, although speculation about him having a twin brother has persisted.
Rumors of a Twin and the Truth Behind Them
It remains a mystery where the rumors about David Bromstad having a twin brother began, especially since he and his older sibling, Dean Bromstad, look nothing alike. Dean reportedly takes after their father, Richard Bromstad, who is married to their mother, Diane Bromstad, in terms of appearance.
There are several features that set the brothers apart. David has brown eyes and darker hair, while Dean's eyes are blue and his hair is lighter and blond.
Over the years, David — the season one winner of "HGTV Design Star" — has undergone a noticeable transformation. A side-by-side comparison of him from 2009 to 2019 highlights the change. In the late 2000s, he sported a clean-shaven look.
By the late 2010s, he wore a beard and mustache. Multiple photos show him both with and without facial hair, illustrating just how much his appearance has shifted.
However, facial hair is not the only thing that has made David look different. By 2019, he had covered much of his body with tattoos. Speaking about his passion for body art, he once said in an interview:
"Tattoos are a beautiful, brilliant way of expressing yourself. I'm a blank canvas that needs to be filled!"
The designer reportedly began getting tattoos at 23 years old. Now 51, he has continued to ink his skin with more colorful designs over time. With the twin theory debunked, attention has often shifted toward David's relationship with his loved ones, especially his brother.
Dean Bromstad: The Real-Life Brother
David Bromstad has given fans a glimpse of his time with his big brother. In August 2015, he posted a carousel on Facebook showing him posing with sweet corn, including a selfie of the star and Dean making funny faces. He called his older sibling a "fantastic brother."
Dean also enjoys spending quality time with loved ones. On his Facebook profile, he wrote, "Easy going person that loves life. Enjoy being with freinds and family just hanging out [sic]."
Dean, who currently works as a sales manager at EELP/VersaLED Lighting and previously worked in sales for Infinity Group LTD for over 21 years, is a family man. In February 2023, he introduced his partner, Bonnie Bromstad, on Valentine's Day, writing, "Meet Bonnie!! She is a great soul and friend!!❤️❤️" alongside a smiling selfie of the pair.
Later that same month, he posted a close-up photo of a bracelet she had given him, captioning it, "Love this, Bonnie gave it to me and said never forget about your kids!!" Dean and Bonnie eventually decided to make things official, marrying in November 2024.
In addition to being a husband, Dean is a father. He has a daughter, Bri Standa, who studied at Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute Minneapolis and is married to Kevin Standa.
Other than being a big brother to David, Dean also has two more siblings. The brothers share two sisters, Dynelle and Dyonne Bromstad.
David has built his career as one of HGTV's most recognizable personalities, without the twin connection many assume. While the idea of a twin brother is a misconception, his actual sibling, Dean, plays a meaningful role in his life.
Dean's own story reflects dedication to family and career, independent of the spotlight. Together, the Bromstad brothers share a strong bond that continues to resonate with fans.
