The Case

Daiana left her home on Friday night, around 7:45 pm. At that time, she was on the phone with a man who was not known to her family. At 20:02, all trace of her was lost. She stopped answering calls, and her phone signal went dead.

The young woman's vehicle, a Chevrolet Corsa, was later found abandoned with the keys still in the ignition in a rural area about four kilometers from the town center of Gobernador Mansilla. This discovery was the first sign that triggered the search operation. Because of the terrain and rainy weather, the search proved difficult.

The discovery took place in an area known as Los Zorrinos, near Route 12. More than 130 people took part in the search, including police officers, firefighters, cadets, tracking dogs, and drones. Eventually, her body was discovered inside a well.

The Arrest of a Suspect and Initial Steps

A 55-year-old man, identified as Gustavo Brondino and known by the nickname “Pino”, was arrested as part of the investigation. Police traced him through the phone communications he allegedly had with Daiana moments before her disappearance.

According to commissioner Pedro Silva, of the Tala Departmental Police, the arrest took place on Sunday night during a raid on Brondino's property. The initial goal of the operation was to seize his cell phones and his pickup truck.

During that operation, Brondino reacted with resistance and reportedly brandished a firearm. He was taken into custody on charges of resisting authority. The court has ordered 90 days of pretrial detention for that reason.

At the same time, an investigation for possible femicide was opened. Authorities are working under the hypothesis that Daiana and Brondino may have had a prior relationship, possibly of a romantic nature. The commissioner confirmed that there are phone records, and investigators are working to determine whether such a connection existed.

Evidence Collected So Far

During a search of a property rented by the suspect, police seized two cell phones, two rifles and a white Toyota Hilux pickup truck. A luminol test conducted on the vehicle returned a positive result, indicating the presence of biological traces. Forensic results are still pending to confirm whether those traces belong to the victim.

The commissioner also detailed that Daiana's body showed a gunshot wound, which was confirmed at the time of the discovery. The autopsy will determine whether this was the sole cause of death and whether other findings can shed more light on the case.

Authorities continue to collect evidence to clarify what happened. The prosecutor handling the case will evaluate in the coming days whether the collected material is sufficient to formally charge Brondino with femicide. So far, Daiana's phone has not been recovered.
