Tiger Woods Is a Proud Dad of Two Children — Their Lives in 30+ Photos

One of sports' most iconic figures has always said his greatest role has nothing to do with a golf club, and these photos prove exactly why.

Tiger Woods and his ex-wife Elin Nordegren share two children, Sam Alexis and Charlie Axel Woods, who have grown up in the public eye despite their parents' very private co-parenting arrangement.

What many fans don't realize is just how deeply fatherhood has shaped Tiger's journey, especially through some of his darkest moments, and the full picture only becomes clear once you see them together through the years.

A Family Rebuilt After a Very Public Goodbye

Tiger and Elin's divorce was finalized in 2010, following a scandal that had dominated headlines for months.

The couple appeared at Bay County Circuit Court in Panama City, Florida, to execute their divorce agreement, and released a joint statement that put their children front and center from the very start.

"We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future," they said, adding:

"While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us."

The financial terms of the settlement were never officially disclosed, though reports at the time suggested Elin could walk away with anywhere from $100 million to several times that amount.

Although she had signed a prenuptial agreement before the marriage, it was renegotiated in the wake of Tiger's public scandal that had derailed his personal life and professional career.

But by all accounts, the real priority for both parents was custody, and from day one, they were committed to sharing it equally.

Just a year later, Tiger was already opening up about what single fatherhood actually looked like in practice. He admitted to reporters back then that while the job was undeniably demanding and difficult, he found it deeply rewarding because it was the specific type of work he truly enjoyed.

He went on to say of Sam, then 3, and Charlie, then 2:

"I just love being with them and seeing what they're doing, what they're capable of doing — the joys, just the shifts of interest. … It's just fun. We have a great time together."

Sam Alexis Woods: Daddy's Girl Through and Through

Sam was born on June 18, 2007, and her name carries a story that Tiger was quick to share. The golfer told reporters that the name Sam connects back to a special memory of his late father.

He said that since the baby arrived right after Father's Day, he and Elin wanted a name that meant something to both families. In the end, the choice was easy because Tiger's father had always called him Sam, never Tiger.

"I would ask him, 'Why don't you ever call me Tiger?' He says, 'Well, you look more like a Sam,'" he revealed.

Sam was barely six months old when she attended one of her father's tournaments for the first time, with her mother by her side, watching Tiger win the Target World Challenge Golf Tournament in Thousand Oaks, California, in December 2007.

It was an early sign of just how intertwined her life would be with the sport, even if her relationship with golf would later become complicated.

By 2023, a video shared by the PGA Tour on Instagram showed Sam, then 16, caddying for her father, dressed in the uniform vest, arranging his clubs with ease, and waiting patiently while he played.

But Sam's relationship with golf isn't entirely simple. In a candid interview with Carson Daly on "Today" in May 2024, Tiger opened up about why his daughter doesn't really play the game herself, even after being seen on the bag.

"You know, hey, when she was growing up, golf took Daddy away from her. I had to pack, and I had to leave. I had to golf for weeks. And there's a negative connotation to it," he explained.

But they still built a wonderful bond. Tiger continued, "So we developed our own relationship, our own rapport, that's outside of golf, that we do things that don't involve golf. Meanwhile, my son and I, we do everything golf-related. It's just very different."

Still, she has always been there when it counted most. In a 2015 interview with Time, when Tiger was battling serious back issues with no clear timetable for recovery, he described a moment that stopped him cold.

He had been practicing out back at his house when a flop shot over the bunker hit a nerve, and he went down, without his phone, unable to move or call for help.

"Well, thank God my daughter's a daddy's girl, and she always wants to hang out," he said. She came outside, found him lying on the ground, and went to get help.

When she asked what was wrong and he told her his back wasn't doing well, her response was simply, "Again?"

It was a quiet, unscripted moment, and one he clearly never forgot.

And of course, fans all over the world have noticed how Sam has grown into her own, and they have taken to social media with comments whenever they spot photos.

On Facebook, a picture from 2024 showing Tiger, Sam, and her little brother on the golf course attracted attention. One person commented, "Such cute kids! They look like their mother...," while another noted, "Wow she definitely has her Dad's smile [sic]."

Speaking of good kids, Tiger's youngest has stirred just as much excitement, and he might be even more talented than his father.

Charlie Axel Woods: The Son Who Inherited the Swing

Charlie Axel arrived on February 8, 2009, and his name, like Sam's, came with intention. Tiger explained it simply:

"We had a couple names and Charlie just fit. As far as the Axel, that's Elin's brother's name so we wanted to make sure it stayed in the family."

Unlike Sam, Charlie took to golf early and hard, and Tiger has made no secret of how much joy that brings him. By the time his son was old enough to swing a club properly, Tiger was already marveling at what he saw.

In a 2020 interview with Golf Digest, the legendary golfer opened up about their time on the course together after the announcement that the two would compete as a team in the PNC Championship, a 36-hole scramble exhibition featuring major-winning athletes alongside a family member.

"He's starting to get into it. He's starting to understand how to play. He's asking me the right questions," Tiger said. "It reminds me so much of me and my dad growing up."

He even admitted feeling a bit jealous when watching Charlie swing a golf club. He mentioned that he frequently studies his son's technique and finds himself wishing he could still move his body with that same level of flexibility and rotation.

The two went on to compete together in the PNC Championship multiple times, and Tiger has made clear, repeatedly, that no physical setback is enough to keep him away from those moments.

In 2022, still recovering from a serious car accident and battling plantar fasciitis in his right foot, both Tiger and a 13-year-old Charlie were noticeably limping during the pro-am at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando.

The teenager had sprained his ankle, but was ready to go for the first round. Tiger, who was permitted to use a cart for the 36-hole scramble, didn't hesitate when asked whether playing was worth delaying his recovery.

"I don't really care about that. I think being there with and alongside my son is far more important, and [getting] to have a chance to have this experience with him is far better than my foot being a little creaky," he said.

That car accident, which happened in February 2021 outside Los Angeles, was a turning point that brought fatherhood into even sharper focus.

According to a source close to Tiger, he "lives for" his kids, and their presence gave him something to fight for throughout the grueling process of getting better.

"Being a dad has helped him stay focused on his recovery," the source said.

Fans watching Charlie grow up alongside his dad have been vocal about how striking the resemblance has become.

On Facebook, one person remarked, "He turned into his Dad!" while another countered, "He looks like his Mom. so v [sic]."

Someone else was more decisive, commenting, "He definitely looks like his dad. The chin and cheeks." And another added, "Oh my gosh - he's so big now!"
