A newly released bodycam video gave the world an unfiltered look at one of the most harrowing scenes to unfold inside a family home in recent memory.

The footage was released on Monday, March 2, 2026, by the Tipp City Police Department and captured the moments immediately following the fatal shooting of Ashley Flynn, the wife of former "American Idol" contestant Caleb Flynn.

But what the cameras caught that night raises more questions than it answers, especially because of a particularly heart-wrenching moment.

A Husband in Pieces

The bodycam video was blurred through most of the portions recorded inside the residence, but what could be heard was impossible to ignore.

Caleb consistently chanted, "Oh my god," while sobbing so hard he could barely catch his breath, even as a female officer tried to calm him.

At one point, through tears, he turned to an officer and asked, "Is she gone?" The officer responded by telling him to breathe again, to look at them, to stay present. It was the kind of exchange that felt almost too raw to process.

Then, just minutes later, Caleb said, "I'm gonna be sick," and he began to throw up.

The Phone Call That Will Break You

When officers allowed Caleb to call family, he dialed his mother. His parents, he told police, lived in Minnesota. What followed was one of the most harrowing phone calls imaginable.

"Ashley's dead," he repeated over and over. Then, barely able to get the words out, he said, "Mommy, she's gone. I don't know what to do."

Then he hung up, still panting and crying.

The Daughters, the Grandmother, and the Grief

At the time of the shooting, the couple's two daughters were inside the residence, according to a 911 call previously released by police, and confirmed by Caleb's own words in the footage.

And his first instinct upon officers' arrival was about them.

"What do I do with my daughters? What do I do with my daughters right now?" he asked an officer, barely holding it together.

The officer redirected him again, saying, "Right now, I need you to breathe."

The Most Heartbreaking Moment

Later in the video, Caleb stepped outside to meet a relative who had arrived at the scene.

He stumbled and fell to the ground before getting up to embrace the woman, identified in the footage as the grandmother of the children, who was also visibly crying and shaking.

"The girls don't know," he told her, then repeated the same line as earlier, "I don't know what to do."

She responded, "I don't know what to do either."

Between the Lines

Throughout the footage, officers methodically did their jobs while Caleb appeared to be falling apart around them.

At one point, an officer gently asked if there were any firearms in the house. Caleb answered plainly that there was a shotgun, a .22, a pellet gun, and a handgun in the glove box of his truck.

Later, police discussed who had been around the property and the back of the house, and Caleb, who was sitting wrapped in a blanket on the porch, began speaking again.

"I heard— I heard and I— I froze, and then I ran, and the door to—the door to the garage was wide open," he said.

The officers then discussed how long they had been there and noted that they didn't see any cars speeding away.

But then the process deepened.

Collecting DNA

Later, at the station, a detective introduced himself and explained the next steps. He told Caleb that collecting touch DNA was standard procedure and that it would help "eliminate" him as a suspect if anything was found at the residence.

The detective also explained the cheek swab simply, saying that if he opened his mouth, they would "swirl it around" his cheek for a bit.

Caleb asked about his phone because his parents were coming from out of town. The detective responded that it was standard for the police to keep it for a while, but they would try to process it as quickly as possible.

For a moment, it seemed procedural.

Then everything shifted.

The Arrest

Although there were no interrogation clips, in the final portion of the video, which appeared to show another day when Caleb arrived at the station with a friend or male relative, an officer approached him and said, "I need you to stand up. You'll be placed under arrest."

When Caleb's friend asked, "On what evidence?" the officer replied, "We're not going to discuss that here." While the friend continued to talk to that officer, another spoke to Caleb, ordering, "Put your hands together for me."

As he was handcuffed, Caleb said, "I'm—I'm being cordial. I'm being cooperative."

Officers asked if he had anything that could harm them before walking him away.

The same man who had earlier cried, "Is she gone?" and "Mommy, she's gone," was then led out in cuffs. Still, the footage by itself isn't enough to understand the full picture.

What Happened That Night?

As previously reported, Caleb, a former "American Idol" Season 12 contestant from Tipp City, Ohio, became the center of a case that stunned his community.

Investigators revealed that Ashley had been shot inside the home the couple shared with their two daughters. But the most chilling detail was that the girls were reportedly in their bedroom at the time and did not wake up.

Per the police affidavit cited by TMZ, officers found Ashley in bed with at least one gunshot wound to the head and two spent shells on the floor nearby.

The couple's two Goldendoodles were also inside the home during the shooting.

Who Has Been Arrested and Charged

Only later did Caleb face serious charges himself. According to the outlet, Caleb was arrested on Thursday, February 19.

The singing competition show's alum was arrested on charges of murder, assault, and tampering with evidence in connection with the fatal shooting of his wife, Ashley.

Police say the shooting happened inside the couple's home, just north of Dayton.

Why Caleb Was Arrested and Charged

Authorities allege Caleb tried to stage the scene to look like a fatal home invasion.

Police say he shot Ashley in the head and then attempted to cover up the crime by making it appear as though a burglary had taken place. No motive has been released.

Caleb pleaded not guilty during his first court appearance on Friday, February 20, 2026, and is being held on $2 million bail. As authorities built their case, one piece of evidence stood out: the frantic 911 call placed from inside the home.

The 911 Call That Raised Eyebrows

Audio obtained by TMZ captured Caleb making a frantic call to dispatch. "Oh my God. Somebody broke into my home. Somebody broke into my home. I saw my wife," he said at the start of the call.

Moments later, he added, "My wife is... She got two shots to her head. There's blood everywhere. Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God." He repeatedly insisted an intruder had broken in, saying the door to the grass was wide open:

"The door to the grass was wide open. Please, hurry, please. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. My daughters are here. My daughters are here."

As the dispatcher urged him to take a deep breath and asked whether he heard anything inside the house, Caleb responded, "No. I rubbed her leg and said her name. She's not answering."

When the operator asked if his daughter was responding, he appeared confused. "No. Hold on. I'm sorry. What do you say? What do you say?" he replied, before clarifying, "No, they're in the other... They're in the other... In their room."

The dispatcher continued asking whether there was any noise inside the house. "No. No, her face is [...] Her face is as white as a ghost," Caleb said. "Whose face?" the operator asked. "My wife's face," Caleb replied.

But it was another detail that quickly caught attention. Earlier in the call, Caleb had also emphasized that his daughters were asleep. "I was with the children when it happened," he said, later adding, "No, they're in their room. They're in their room, and they're not even awake."

Despite his claims of a shooting inside the home, he repeatedly stressed that the girls had not woken up. And while investigators pieced together the scene, the internet was doing the same.

Social Media Reacts

As clips of the 911 call circulated online, commenters began dissecting every word. Under the TikTok video of the dispatch audio, some listeners questioned how Caleb seemed to know specific details.

"The acting 👍😂" one person wrote. "story. The baby is here then in their room." Another asked, "How did he know "two shots" [sic]." And one more added, "funny how he knew it was two shots."

The repeated emphasis on the children sleeping, combined with his mention of "two shots," has become a focal point of online speculation.

Where the Case Stands

Caleb has been formally charged with murder, assault, and tampering with evidence. He has pleaded not guilty. For now, investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive, and the case remains ongoing.

Long before murder charges and courtroom appearances, Caleb presented himself as a devoted husband chasing a dream.

The Video That's Now Hard to Watch

In his Season 12 audition video, he said, "My name is Caleb Flynn, I'm from Tip City, Ohio u,h I audition cuz I'm sure everybody says it, but music is all I know, it's what I live to do, and I love to sing, so that's why I auditioned maybe my wife kind of nudged me a little bit too."

He described his emotional reaction to receiving a golden ticket after a previous failed attempt. "My first thought when I got my golden ticket, um, honestly, all I could do was cover my face because I cried a little bit. Uh, I'm kind of a crybaby. I get it from my mom and my dad, um, but it was honestly just pure joy, excitement."

He also spoke lovingly about Ashley, "The thing that makes me unique, you know, I absolutely love the Lord. I love my wife more than anything. She is very, very pretty — Just I love her, but you know I'm just a normal person who absolutely loves to sing more than anything in the world, and I think I have a different sound in my voice, I have something to offer."

He even joked that she reminded him of his favorite contestant. "My favorite past Idol contestant would probably be Carrie Underwood, um, she's just absolutely incredible, um, love her attitude and just her passion for what she does, and I promise you if my wife dyed her hair blonde she would look just like her."

What began as a frantic 911 call about a supposed break-in has evolved into a complicated and deeply disturbing case, one that has left two young daughters without their mother.

And for many watching from afar, one question lingers: What really happened inside that house?
