Not all reactions questioned the design. One person praised it, writing, "Best outfit by far."

The Look That Launched Pregnancy Theories

Beyoncé wore a sheer, nude-toned floor-length gown covered in silver crystal embroidery. The crystal work formed an anatomical-style pattern across the dress.

Curved rib-like shapes covered the chest. A spine-like line ran down the center, with more bone-like details placed along the hips and skirt.

The gown also had a high, rounded neckline, structured crystal shoulders, long sheer sleeves, and crystal-covered hand pieces.

Its gray feathered train stretched far behind her. It was reported that the train took five people to carry up the stairs.

Her accessories matched the silver crystal detailing. Beyoncé wore a large crystal headpiece shaped like a radiant crown, with pointed fan-like spikes around the top and sides.

Beyoncé's Met Gala Hair Look Brought Back an Earlier Era

Beyoncé's hair transformation at the 2026 Met Gala was inspired by a return to her earlier style.

According to longtime colorist Rita Hazan, the goal was to move away from the icy blonde tones the singer has worn in recent years and bring back a softer, warmer look.

"The initial vision for Beyoncé's hair was to take it back to the early '90s, where it's more honey, chocolatey with some sunny highlights," Hazan told E! News. She described the shade as a "Manhattan blonde."

Hazan said the team chose a warmer brown-blonde shade with softer highlights after Beyoncé spent the past few years wearing much lighter blonde hair during much of her "Cowboy Carter" era.

The stylist said Beyoncé immediately reacted positively after seeing the finished look. "It was fun to see her face go, 'Oh my God. I love this. I remember I love this,'" Hazan recalled. She also said the hairstyle reflected Beyoncé's role as a Met Gala co-chair.

"I wanted this look to say," Hazan added, "as a co-chair, that she is actually all about art and fashion and she's not afraid to change her look ever."

Beyoncé’s updated hair color added another layer to a look that was designed to match the artistic focus of the night.

The Night's Theme

The 2026 Met Gala centered on the exhibition "Costume Art," treating fashion itself as a fine art form, with a dress code to match: "Fashion Is Art."

The annual benefit raises funds for the Met's Costume Institute. Billionaire and Amazon founderJeff Bezos and his wife, journalist Lauren Sánchez Bezos, served as honorary chairs.

Beyoncé co-chaired the gala alongside Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour, making her return to fashion's biggest night even more notable. The appearance marked the singer's first Met Gala in 10 years.

Beyoncé's Met Gala run was once one of fashion's most reliable appointments. She made her debut in 2008 in an Armani Privé gown.

After that, she returned every year from 2011 through 2016 — largely in a succession of custom Givenchy looks that gave fashion editors something to talk about for days after.

Her 2015 appearance, in a sheer jewel-encrusted Givenchy naked dress, landed her in the conversation for one of the greatest Met Gala appearances ever. She had also served as an honorary chair before.

Then, the following year, she closed out her streak in a pearl-encrusted latex Givenchy gown for the "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology" theme, and quietly disappeared from the guest list for the next decade.

With her return to the Met Gala after a decade away, Beyoncé once again became one of the night's most talked-about stars — this time with a look that blended high fashion, nostalgia, and a fresh take on her signature style.
