Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman Reunite at the 'Practical Magic 2' European Premiere — and the Moment Between Them Caught Everyone Off Guard — Photos
For fans who have been waiting nearly three decades to see Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman together again, the Practical Magic 2 premiere delivered the reunion they wanted — and then gave them something else to talk about.
A playful moment between the two actresses on the blue carpet has sparked a surprisingly divided reaction, with some fans seeing pure affection and others picking apart their body language.
Bullock and Kidman reunited at the European premiere of Practical Magic 2 at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London on August 26, 2026, almost 30 years after they first played witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens in the 1998 cult classic.

The brief reaction added another layer of mystery to the actresses’ much-discussed reunion, leaving viewers to decide for themselves what made the moment so uncomfortable. | Source: Instagram/pagesix
The Owens Sisters Return to London
The sequel once again centers on the Owens family, with Sally and Gillian facing a multi-generational curse threatening the next generation of their family. The movie is directed by Susanne Bier and brings the focus back to the women of the Owens family.
The London premiere was packed with familiar faces from both the original movie and the new chapter. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest returned as Aunt Frances and Aunt Jet, while Joey King, Maisie Williams, Solly McLeod and Xolo Maridueña were among the sequel's other stars.

King leaned into the movie's romantic, witchy atmosphere in a pale blue mesh gown layered over a pastel yellow two-piece, while Williams chose a burgundy gown that showcased her back tattoos. The return of the original cast members made the premiere feel like a genuine Owens family reunion, but Bullock and Kidman's appearance was always going to be the night's biggest draw.

Bullock Brought the Drama in Leopard Print
Bullock certainly did not arrive quietly. The actress wore a dramatic strapless leopard-print gown with a sculptural bow detail at the waist, pairing the statement-making dress with layered gold necklaces and black strappy heels. A close-up photo from the premiere highlights the delicate pendant among her layered necklaces, adding a subtle detail to an otherwise bold look.

And then there were the shoes — perhaps the cheekiest detail of the entire look. Bullock's black strappy heels featured an oversized feathered detail at the back, giving the otherwise glamorous outfit an unexpected playful twist.

Kidman's Look Brought Its Own Kind of Magic
Kidman took a very different approach, arriving in a shimmering pale blue-white off-the-shoulder gown covered in cascading silver, gold-chain and pearl detailing.
The look came during Kidman's return to Chanel as a brand ambassador. WWD reported that the actress had reunited with the fashion house more than two decades after appearing in its famous No. 5 fragrance campaign directed by Baz Luhrmann.

Blazy had previously dressed Kidman during his time at Bottega Veneta, making the London premiere another high-profile appearance for the actress in his orbit.
The contrast between the actresses' looks was striking: Bullock went bold in leopard print, while Kidman shimmered in pale blue and metallic detailing.

Then Sally and Gillian Were Side by Side Again
One of the photographs from the premiere shows Bullock and Kidman posing together on the blue carpet. Bullock's leopard-print gown stands out beside Kidman's pale blue dress, making the image feel almost like a visual reunion of Sally and Gillian themselves.
And then the polished photo-op gave way to something much more animated.

The Reunion Got Playful – And Fans Noticed
A video shared from the premiere shows Bullock and Kidman standing close together on the blue carpet as they chat and laugh. Kidman places a hand around Bullock's waist as the actresses face one another, appearing to joke and enjoy the moment before turning back toward the photographers.

At another point, they continue talking while looking at each other, giving the exchange a distinctly familiar quality rather than the feel of a routine red-carpet pose. The video report described the pair as "The Owens sisters" and called them the "perfect pair together" as they walked the blue carpet ahead of the premiere.

The interaction is warm and playful throughout, with the actresses smiling, laughing and repeatedly turning toward each other. The video caption also described them as "truly magical together." For fans of the original movie, it was arguably the most revealing part of the reunion because it showed the actresses' chemistry in motion rather than simply capturing a single pose.
But Viewers Did Not All See It the Same Way
Some fans saw two longtime co-stars happily reconnecting after almost 30 years. Others watched the same footage and became fixated on the actresses' physical interaction, particularly Kidman's hand-holding.
The comments came in response to a Page Six video report of the reunion. One commenter reacted, "Nicole being aggressive with the hand holding! Sandra was like Let me go! 😂"
Another viewer simply wrote, "Painful to watch." Someone else shifted attention to Bullock's outfit, writing, "Sandra dress has too much extra fabric going on around her waist and hips...bulky look... 🤔" The reaction was notably different from the affectionate impression created by the premiere photos.

The Fashion Debate Continued
A Reddit discussion dedicated to Nicole Kidman's custom Chanel look by Matthieu Blazy and Bullock's Givenchy by Sarah Burton FW26 ensemble produced another round of opinions about how the actresses photographed on the carpet.

The reaction shifted the conversation from the actresses’ outfits to how Bullock appeared to feel during the premiere, with one viewer questioning her apparent comfort in the photos. | Source: Reddit/r/whatthefrockk
Another praised parts of both outfits, saying, "Nicole is looking a little more like herself. I love her gown. The hair not so much, I think old Hollywood style curls, with more movement, would have been nicer. Sandra’s dress is fire, but I don't like the shoes."
A third commenter focused on both actresses, writing, "Nicole's dress is stunning, but I wish she had gone with a more red hair colour and also styled up would make this work better - red would make that dress pop and up would be less messy. Um, does this dress make Sandra look awkward and short?"
Away from the online reactions, Bullock and Kidman have both spoken warmly about returning to the franchise.

The Actresses Were Just as Nostalgic
Kidman called the reunion "amazing" and said the sequel was made largely because of the fans who kept the original movie alive. She also described getting to return 28 years later with Bullock as "gratifying." Bullock, meanwhile, said it was “easy” to step back into Sally Owens and described the familiar dynamic between the pair simply as:
"The bickering, the joking… We are the same people that we were back then, except now we have children."

She also praised the return of the iconic Owens house, telling the audience:
"We don't have the midnight margaritas without the house. The house is the heart of this film. It was the most iconic thing for us to rebuild that."

The Magic Is Finally Returning
The London premiere was ultimately a celebration of a franchise that fans refused to let disappear. Bullock and Kidman are back as Sally and Gillian, Channing and Wiest have returned as Frances and Jet, and a younger generation of stars has joined the Owens family for the sequel.
Practical Magic 2 is scheduled for release in UK cinemas on September 11.
