Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, had a charitable message to share on International Day of the Girl, but the photo accompanying her latest initiative soon became a talking point of its own. While some people applauded her support for mothers and girls, others had a very different reaction to the image she chose to promote the cause.

On October 11, 2026, Meghan highlighted a collaboration between Archewell Philanthropies and Moms Offering More (MOM), an organization dedicated to supporting mothers and families across Canada and the United States.

Meghan shared the message behind the campaign on social media, emphasizing how everyday gestures of care can make a meaningful difference in people's lives. "Small acts of care can make a big difference for parents, for caregivers, for moms," she wrote.

She continued, "This International Day of the Girl, I'm proud of the way we are showing up, including with our Archewell Philanthropies collaboration with @momsofferingmore supporting families alongside @allianceofmoms and @allianceforchildrensrights."

The Duchess then explained the thinking behind the slogan, writing, "As Moms Offering More says: 'It's the little things.' And all of those 'little things' ladder up to big support. Please click the link in stories to find out more ❤️"

The collaboration was intended to turn that message into practical support for families, with proceeds from the sweatshirt going directly to the organizations involved.

Inside Meghan's $100 Sweatshirt — and Where the Money Goes

The special-edition MOM x Meghan sweatshirt features a cozy cream-colored crewneck with chocolate-brown embroidery. Its understated design gives it a minimalist look, while the slogan adds a charitable purpose to an otherwise everyday wardrobe staple.

The sweatshirt costs $100, and 100% of the purchase proceeds are allocated to the charitable initiative. Half goes to Moms Offering More, while the other half supports the Alliance of Moms.

According to the product description, the garment is made from 50% combed ring-spun cotton and 50% polyester. Customers are advised to allow up to four weeks for delivery because of overwhelming demand, and all purchases are final sale.

The collaboration also has Meghan's personal touch. According to PEOPLE's report on the design process, the Duchess helped bring the design to life, including selecting the signature neutral colors. Moms Offering More founder Kasondra Herrendorf Cohen, 39, said the goal was to create something people would genuinely enjoy wearing while supporting a meaningful cause.

"Our goal from the beginning was to create something that felt easy, wearable, and meaningful — something people would genuinely want to live in. Meghan was involved from the start and helped us select the beautiful neutral colors which feel true to her aesthetic," Herrendorf Cohen told PEOPLE.

The message and the charitable purpose were central to the launch, but the photograph Meghan shared to promote the sweatshirt would also attract considerable attention online.

Supporters Praise Meghan, but Other Commenters Criticize the Photo

The response to Meghan's post was divided, with some social media viewers applauding her support for women and girls while others questioned the promotional image. One Instagram commenter praised the Duchess's continued charitable efforts, writing, "Always supporting women and girls 👏👏, as ever, Meghan 🔥🔥❤️❤️"

Others focused on Meghan's appearance in the photograph rather than the initiative itself. One critic asked, "Is this satire? An example of how not to sell an item- look like you are sickly and unwell." Another commenter said, "She looks dehydrated to me. Her eyes are sunken." A third person focused on the way Meghan posed, writing, "The ridiculous pose."

The Facebook discussion was similarly divided. Some questioned the message behind the sweatshirt, while others defended Meghan and her efforts to support charitable organizations. One commenter criticized the slogan by writing, "ITS THE LITTLE THINGS “ like loving your Mother & Father [sic] 😵‍💫😴🥱😭🤬🤮"

Another pushed back against the criticism, saying, "All the haters on this chat is just ridiculous. Keep shining, Dutchess! You helping little businesses is awesome. 💙"

Not everyone was convinced by the slogan itself. One Facebook person observed, "Not exactly a new quote or anything, but cute sweatshirt." Another drew attention to Meghan's family life, commenting, "It's the little things," Like taking your children to visit their maternal Grandfather."

The $100 price tag also became part of the conversation. One critic wrote, "It's the little things..." Ah. Like apparel and jewelry worth thousands of dollars, eh?" Another questioned the design's originality, saying, "Omg, it's so generic it's like, are you kidding me, seriously [sic]. This has to be a joke."

The photograph continued to attract scrutiny, with one user stating, "Not a good picture." Another asked, "What is going on with that pose?" Still, not every reaction was negative. One supporter offered a straightforward compliment, writing, "Beautiful Meghan."

Other comments were more personal. One user wrote, "She needs help." Another focused on a specific facial feature, saying, "Her nose! It’s blue like what?"

The photograph at the center of the discussion shows the image Meghan selected to promote the collaboration. After the range of reactions, readers can see for themselves the picture that prompted such sharply contrasting opinions.

Meghan Explains Why the Collaboration Matters

Beyond the social media debate, Meghan's statement to PEOPLE offered a closer look at the motivation behind the partnership. "We share one intention as parents," Meghan said, "a safe and loving future for our children — that's why at Archewell Philanthropies, we partnered with Moms Offering More on this meaningful campaign, in support of the Alliance of Moms."

"We can all appreciate that 'the little things' ladder up to big outcomes, especially when it comes to the future of our children, and we are proud to work together on this initiative as we honor International Day of the Girl." Herrendorf Cohen also praised Meghan's involvement throughout the process, emphasizing that the Duchess remained focused on the campaign's purpose.

"I appreciated how creative she was throughout the design process and how focused she remained on the purpose of the project: supporting mothers, families and the organizations doing that work," she told PEOPLE.

The founder explained that the collaboration came about through mutual connections who were familiar with both organizations' work. "We were connected through people familiar with both our organizations' work, and we immediately aligned around supporting mothers and families," she said.

For Herrendorf Cohen, the partnership was an opportunity to bring attention to the everyday challenges facing parents while raising funds for organizations already working to address them.

The Personal Story Behind the Sweatshirt's Four Words

The phrase "It's the Little Things" carries a deeply personal meaning for Herrendorf Cohen, who drew inspiration from a memory of her late father.

In May 2014, her father, Hershel Herrendorf, was visiting her in Vancouver when they took a walk through Stanley Park. As they watched a man feeding ducks, he told her, "It's the little things in life that bring people happiness. You never truly know somebody's story."

The moment took on a heartbreaking significance when he died suddenly the following day. More than a decade later, Herrendorf Cohen continues to carry his words with her, remembering the quiet moment they shared and the reminder that seemingly small experiences can become life's most meaningful memories.

"As a mom, it's the little things," she told PEOPLE. Her own experience with motherhood also helped shape her commitment to supporting other women. After welcoming her first daughter in 2020, Herrendorf Cohen struggled with breastfeeding and the feelings of inadequacy that accompanied the experience, despite having access to resources and support.

"I didn't produce milk, and I talk about that really openly because I had so many personal struggles and felt that level of inadequacy — although it's not inadequate. Lots of women cannot produce milk," she said.

She continued, "I had all the means, I had all the help, and I thought, wow, if I'm struggling with this, imagine how many other moms are struggling with things like putting food on the table, buying diapers or formula."

Those experiences led her to imagine ways to help other mothers feel less isolated and better supported. Moms Offering More officially launched in 2023, bringing women together to support mothers and historically underserved families across Canada and the United States.

Herrendorf Cohen is a mother of three: daughter Adyna, 6, and 18-month-old twins Adyra and Jack. She hopes the organization will help make the challenges of parenthood more manageable for families who might otherwise struggle to access essential resources.

"Motherhood takes a village," she said. "When we show up for one another, even the hardest days can feel more manageable. That's the heart of 'It's the Little Things': small acts of care that add up to meaningful support. Every sweatshirt purchased helps us extend that care to more mothers and families."

The launch on International Day of the Girl was deliberate, allowing the collaboration to highlight women's leadership and female entrepreneurship. "It was a really good time to put something out that is female-led," Herrendorf Cohen said. "We pride ourselves on supporting other female entrepreneurs, too."

How the Collaboration Supports Mothers and Children

The proceeds from the sweatshirt are intended to provide tangible assistance to families facing financial and other challenges. According to Moms Offering More, 80% of the mothers and caregivers it supports live in social housing, while 60% head single-parent households. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, the organization tailors its assistance to individual needs.

Its support includes direct grants, grocery and clothing gift cards, food, transportation assistance, and other essentials that can help families manage everyday expenses.

In Vancouver, Herrendorf Cohen also works with the Landing Youth Center, which serves approximately 100 to 150 children each week. Moms Offering More helps support the center's food program, providing meals and snacks to vulnerable families.

In the United States, the initiative works with organizations addressing food insecurity, postpartum support, childcare, and other challenges affecting parents and children.

The Alliance for Children's Rights in Los Angeles helps young parents and children impacted by the foster care system build healthy, stable families. Its work is supported by the Alliance of Moms, an organization co-founded by Meghan's close friend Kelly McKee Zajfen.

Through its Healthy Teen Families program, the organization provides young parents with resources such as prenatal care, parenting education, childcare, baby essentials, housing, and employment support. Shauna Nep, senior philanthropic advisor at Archewell Philanthropies, emphasized that the funding is intended to help organizations deliver practical assistance to families.

"The organizations we support share one belief, which is that families do better when their communities show up for them," she said. "These funds go straight to that work."

The initiative forms part of the wider charitable work of Meghan and Prince Harry. According to the Archewell Philanthropies website, the organization houses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's philanthropic work as they expand their efforts to achieve meaningful impact around the world.

After five years, the Archewell Foundation became Archewell Philanthropies, allowing the couple and their children to broaden their charitable endeavors as a family.

A Message That Extends Beyond Fashion

Herrendorf Cohen hopes the sweatshirt will inspire people to embrace small acts of kindness in their own lives, whether that means buying a stranger a coffee, offering someone a compliment, or simply doing something thoughtful for another person.

She has encouraged supporters to share their own moments of kindness on social media, spreading stories of the everyday gestures that make a difference. "We can all come together as women to be stronger, to be better and to help more," she told PEOPLE.

At the heart of the collaboration is the memory of a father and daughter taking a walk together, and four words that have since grown into a mission to support families.

Although Meghan's promotional photo prompted sharply contrasting reactions online, the initiative's stated aim remains to direct financial support toward mothers, caregivers, and children who need it.

For the organizations involved, the hope is that the campaign will do more than sell a sweatshirt: it will encourage people to recognize the value of small gestures while helping provide families with practical support when they need it most.
