Kathie Lee Gifford's $100M Connecticut Waterfront Estate She's Leaving After 32 Years — and the Nashville Home Behind a Frightening Chapter in Her Life — Photos

Kathie Lee Gifford spent decades sharing stories about her family with millions of viewers, but there was one place she refused to let television cameras enter. Now, photographs of that very home have appeared online, and strangers are debating her taste — with some even making fun of her furniture.
After 32 years, the beloved television personality has listed her Connecticut estate for a staggering $100 million. But there's a far more personal story behind her decision, while her new home in Tennessee became the setting for something she never expected.

The One Place She Refused to Show the World
In the early 2000s, Kathie Lee was offered the chance to star in her own family reality show. Although she had spent years sharing stories about her husband and children with viewers, she had no intention of letting a camera crew constantly follow her family around their home.
She turned down the reality show, explaining, "No, I need a private place to go home to." Kathie Lee wanted her family to enjoy ordinary life behind closed doors, without cameras watching their every move.

It might seem surprising for a woman who built her career on such open conversations with viewers. But having a home of her own had always meant something special to Kathie Lee, especially since she once could hardly imagine living in such luxury.

She and her husband, former football star and sports broadcaster Frank Gifford, both came from modest backgrounds. Kathie Lee even remembered helping her father sell newspapers when she was just six years old, and years later, their success allowed her and Frank to give their children a life they had once only dreamed of.
What Made Them Leave a Home They Already Loved?
At first, Kathie Lee and Frank were perfectly happy living on a small farm in Greenwich, Connecticut. But after their daughter Cassidy was born in 1993, the couple began thinking about finding a larger home for their growing family.

Their son Cody had arrived three years earlier, and the couple now had two young children to raise. During their search for a new home, they discovered an unusual waterfront villa that immediately caught both their attention.
Kathie Lee recalled how she and Frank simply exchanged a look and knew they had found the place they wanted. The couple purchased the property in 1994 for approximately $7.8 million, and what began as an ordinary desire to find more room for their children became a project that lasted three decades.

Over the years, Kathie Lee added rooms, changed interiors, and decorated the house to suit her personal taste. She never hid how much work she had put into it, but 32 years later, the results would spark reactions she probably never expected.
A $100 Million Dream Home — So Why Did It Spark Such a Backlash?
When Kathie Lee decided to sell her estate in 2026, she set an astonishing $100 million asking price. The home where her children had grown up was suddenly available for everyone to see, and its photographs quickly sparked heated discussions online.
Known as Cedar Cliff, the property sits on a private peninsula in Riverside, Connecticut, overlooking Long Island Sound. The nearly three-acre estate includes an approximately 13,163-square-foot residence with eight bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, five of which are half baths.

The grounds feature a swimming pool, spa, tennis court, and private dock, while the enormous windows offer beautiful waterfront views. The property even has more than 1,250 feet of direct waterfront, making it an extraordinary piece of real estate even by the standards of Connecticut's exclusive coastline.

The house features Mediterranean-style architecture, spacious terraces, and beautifully maintained gardens. But when people saw the photographs, the biggest argument wasn't about the price or the size — it was about what was waiting inside.
What Was Hiding Behind Those Beautiful Doors?
Kathie Lee never tried to turn her home into one of those sleek, minimalist celebrity mansions. Instead, she preferred a traditional style with wooden furniture, decorative fabrics, artwork, and pieces she had collected over many years.

Some viewers thought the rooms looked warm and inviting, but others expected something entirely different from a $100 million property. And some of the comments were surprisingly harsh.
"The interior needs a total overhaul," one viewer complained, suggesting the decorating needed a complete makeover. Another was even more critical, writing, "OM Goodness, the internal Furniture and styling is dreadful 🥺"

Someone else couldn't believe the difference between the asking price and the furnishings: "100 M with that grandma's furniture ?" Another viewer kept their reaction short: "Sooooo dated."

But others saw something special in the home. One admirer wrote, "This is the perfect one! 🏡" while a commenter who identified themselves as a Connecticut coastal interior designer had a completely different opinion about the traditional decor.

But not everyone agreed with the criticism. Some viewers actually appreciated the home's warm, lived-in atmosphere, believing its traditional furnishings and personal touches made it feel more inviting than a perfectly staged luxury mansion. One commenter, who identified themselves as a Connecticut coastal interior designer, explained why the interiors stood out to them.

While strangers argued about her furniture, Kathie Lee could remember how many years she had spent creating those rooms. In fact, some of the mansion's most luxurious spaces didn't even exist when she first walked through its doors.
And the changes went far beyond buying new sofas or replacing wallpaper. Over the years, the couple added an entire wing to the property, while several rooms were given rather unusual purposes.
She Transformed the House Beyond Recognition
In the early 2000s, Kathie Lee and Frank built a three-story east wing. The major renovation added a luxurious primary suite, an office, a wine cellar, and a private movie theater large enough for approximately 20 guests.

But one of the most interesting additions was a professional recording studio, where Kathie Lee could work on music without leaving home. Before long, the space became more than just somewhere to work, especially with so many famous musicians among the couple's friends.
Dolly Parton, Neil Sedaka, Kenny Loggins, Larry Gatlin, and Kevin Costner were among the famous names who visited. Sometimes an ordinary dinner turned into an impromptu concert, with someone sitting down at the piano while another guest picked up a guitar.

Kathie Lee also welcomed longtime television friends, including Regis Philbin and his wife Joy, as well as Hoda Kotb, whose 50th birthday she celebrated on the patio. But the most important people in that enormous house were always the two children growing up inside it.

The Most Precious Memories Happened Away From the Cameras
For Cody and Cassidy, Cedar Cliff was simply the place where they spent their childhood. They celebrated birthdays, spent time with their parents and friends, and Kathie Lee watched her two little children gradually grow into adults.

Eventually, Cody began pursuing a career as a producer and writer, while Cassidy became an actress. Both children developed plans of their own, and the house where everyone once gathered every day slowly changed along with the family.

In 2020, Cody married Erika Brown, and their wedding took place at the family estate. It was a special celebration for Kathie Lee, and before long, younger members of the family would be living in the mansion again.

She Moved Away — But Someone Came Back
After Kathie Lee relocated to Tennessee, her Connecticut estate didn't sit empty. In October 2021, she revealed that Cody and his wife Erika were living there.
"My son and his wife live there now," she shared, adding, "And that just makes me so happy." Kathie Lee was delighted that Cody was living in the house where he had grown up, even though she was already settling into life in another state.
Cody and Erika eventually welcomed three children, while Cassidy and her husband Ben also became parents. When the mansion appeared on the market, one commenter remembered that a young family had been living there and asked, "Where are Cody and his wife and 3 kids going as they were living there!!!"

Even having her son back in the house didn't change Kathie Lee's decision to sell the estate she'd spent decades creating. Meanwhile, she had already found another place to call home in Nashville — and she hadn't originally planned to buy another large property there.
Her New Home Was Nothing Like the First
Kathie Lee had loved Nashville for years, but she wasn't ready to make a permanent move immediately. Instead, she bought a smaller townhouse to make sure she would enjoy living there before investing a much larger sum in another property.

In October 2018, she purchased her first Nashville-area home for approximately $1.25 million. By the following year, she knew she wanted to stay and decided to make a much more expensive purchase.

In July 2019, Kathie Lee bought a two-story brownstone for approximately $3.7 million. The home measured around 7,965 square feet and included several bedrooms and bathrooms, a spacious kitchen, and a finished basement.
Her new property was considerably smaller than the Connecticut estate, but Kathie Lee loved her surroundings. In Nashville, she found friends among musicians and songwriters, so even ordinary dinners could turn into creative gatherings.
The city was known for its spontaneous musical evenings, when guests picked up guitars or sat down at the piano and started writing songs together. After leaving her daily television job, Kathie Lee was devoting more time to music, books, and films.
But in the summer of 2024, her beautiful new home became the scene of a frightening accident. It happened within seconds, as she hurried to help a friend.
A Few Seconds That Left Her Frightened
In 2024, Kathie Lee was recovering from hip replacement surgery when another medical setback occurred. She fell down the stairs at home and fractured her pelvis in two places.
Her friend had accidentally become locked outside in intense summer heat, and Kathie Lee hurried to help. The television personality later explained what caused the fall, admitting she had been moving too quickly in unsuitable shoes.
"I just went too fast in stupid shoes and I went tumbling," she recalled. The injury left her hospitalized for approximately a week, even though she hadn't fully recovered from her previous operation.
Fortunately, the pain later disappeared unexpectedly, and another examination showed that her fractures had healed much faster than doctors anticipated. Kathie Lee thanked everyone for their prayers and support before returning to her everyday activities.

After recovering, she was once again spending time with loved ones and preparing the family dishes she remembered from childhood. At Thanksgiving, Kathie Lee prefers gathering around eight to ten guests and follows a simple rule: "I never invite people that I don't absolutely love."

She cooks using her mother's recipes and tries to include people who might otherwise have nowhere to celebrate. But even in her comfortable new home, one story from Connecticut remained — something she couldn't simply leave behind with the old furniture.

One Room Held Her Most Painful Memory
For years, Kathie Lee and Frank had shared a simple evening tradition. They would raise their glasses together and watch the sunset, enjoying the view from their waterfront home.
It was an ordinary way for the couple to end the day. But in August 2015, Frank died at age 84, and Kathie Lee later revealed a heartbreaking detail: her husband had passed away in the sunroom of their beloved estate.

After Frank's death, Kathie Lee sometimes continued stepping outside with her dogs to watch the sunset. But he was no longer beside her, and the view they had enjoyed together for so many years now reminded her of what she had lost.
Kathie Lee also lost her mother, Joanie, in 2017, while her children were beginning families of their own. The once-busy mansion gradually grew quieter, and she began seeing the place she'd spent decades creating in a different light.
When Kathie Lee finally explained why she was selling the house, she proudly recalled everything she'd changed over the years. "I've worked on that house for 32 years. Added on everything, made it the house that it is," she said.
But then she revealed why even such a special home no longer felt the same: "I have my heart and soul, and blood, sweat, and tears in that house. And just memories galore," she explained. "But once Frank passed and my kids went off to start their own careers and start their own families, the music went out of the house for me."
Kathie Lee remembered the famous friends who once filled those rooms with laughter and music. "I used to have Neil Sedaka there all the time. Dolly Parton, Larry Gatlin, you name them. Kenny Loggins, Kevin Costner, everybody's playing the piano and playing guitar. And so, it became very silent. My world went silent."
Still, she hadn't rushed to erase the house from her family's story. Cody's wedding had taken place there, in the very spot where Frank's ashes had previously been scattered, meaning his son celebrated his marriage in a place that would always be connected to his father.

Someone Else May Get the Keys — But Can They Ever Own Its Memories?
One day, someone new may walk through Cedar Cliff's doors, rearrange the furniture, and give its beautiful rooms an entirely different look. But there are things within those walls that no new owner will ever be able to replace.

The house has witnessed children growing up, family celebrations, late-night conversations, and moments that were never meant for the public eye. Some of those memories belong to people who are no longer here, yet their presence remains woven into the family's history.

Perhaps the next owners will stand by the windows and admire the same breathtaking sunset that Kathie Lee and Frank once watched together. They may see nothing but a beautiful waterfront view, never knowing just how much that particular sight once meant to the couple who called this place home.
And while new voices may eventually fill the rooms and new footsteps echo through the hallways, the Giffords' story will remain part of Cedar Cliff's past. Because even after the keys are handed over and the doors close behind Kathie Lee for the last time, those walls will still hold 32 years of a family's love, laughter, and memories.
