Sister Wives Season 21 Premieres Without Kody: The OG3 Share Life Updates, Janelle's 2-Word Message to Her Ex, and Which Wife Is Still His Only Legal Spouse
"Sister Wives" is back - but the Brown family viewers once knew has been almost completely torn apart.
The TLC series returned for its 21st season on October 4 with a dramatically different picture: three former sister wives moving forward with new homes, new romances, and new lives, while the bitter disputes of their years with Kody Brown continue to follow them.
And after 16 years of helping define the show, Kody and his remaining wife are no longer filming, leaving Christine, Janelle, and Meri Brown — the women once known as the "OG3" — firmly at the center of the drama.
For the three women, that means viewers are now watching lives that look almost unrecognizable from the plural family introduced in 2010. But while they may have moved on, unfinished battles from the past are refusing to disappear.

A Very Different 'Sister Wives' Returns
When "Sister Wives" debuted on TLC in September 2010, cameras followed Kody's sprawling plural family with Meri, Janelle, Christine, and later Robyn. Together, the family included 17 children.
The original premise chronicled their attempt to live openly as a plural family while confronting social judgment, legal problems, and financial pressures. More than a decade later, that once-united family structure has spectacularly fractured.

Christine ended her spiritual marriage to Kody in 2021 after 25 years and six children together, according to People. Meri and Janelle later separated from him, too.
Season 21 now follows the three women without Kody and Robyn participating in filming. Their departure was confirmed shortly before the premiere, with no public explanation for why they walked away from the series.

Kody nevertheless appeared in previously filmed footage during the premiere, which revisited the separate conversations he had with his former wives during what he called a "pilgrimage to apologize to my ex-wives."

In another People preview, Kody explained what he said drove him to have those conversations. "And then you talking to me about getting therapy, I kind of got just prayerfully tuned in, trying to go, 'Okay God, what should I do about this mess that I'm in and how I feel?'"

He continued, "I just started getting this vibe that I need to go apologize. What I need to own about the breakups, about how things happened with the family. I don't know how to say this just straight as I can: I want to set them free, just get them to stop thinking, talking, being about me."

But for Janelle, that apology was far from the end of the story.
Janelle Gets Her Own Keys and Has Two Blistering Words for Kody
At 57, Janelle has embarked on another major chapter far from the family's former life in Arizona, and this time, the home is hers. A Season 21 preview from People showed her finally receiving the keys to the North Carolina home she built from the ground up.
After signing the paperwork, Janelle walked through the front door of her completed house for the first time. The emotional milestone followed her move to North Carolina, where she settled near her eldest daughter, Madison Brush.

But even as Janelle stepped into her new home, one bitter piece of unfinished business with Kody came roaring back during the premiere: the fallout over the family's Coyote Pass property in Arizona.
The land had already become a major source of conflict. Meri previously said she was prepared to bring lawyers into the dispute over her share, telling Janelle in a Season 19 preview obtained by People, "I'm gonna have to get some lawyers involved."
Season 21 added another explosive layer to the feud. According to E! News, Janelle rejected Kody's allegation that she had devised a "backdoor deal" to prevent Meri from receiving her share of the property's sale.
Janelle told Christine that Meri had believed, or partly believed, Kody's account. But when it came to the accusation itself, Janelle did not mince words: She said it "was not true."
She also described Kody's allegation as something that "felt very personal," particularly because it came after she had accepted his apology.
Janelle said there had been no contact since that apology and openly questioned whether it had ever been sincere. She then accused her ex of publicly attacking her character afterward.
"He very publicly torpedoed my character," Janelle said. "So, f--k him." After years of marriage, separation, property battles, and recriminations, those were the two brutal words she ultimately had for her ex.
Christine Escaped One Life and Found Another
Christine's split from Kody came years earlier, but her own life has undergone a remarkable transformation since she walked away. She previously told People that Kody's decision not to accompany their daughter Ysabel to her 2020 scoliosis surgery in New Jersey played a key role in the collapse of their relationship.
After leaving Kody, Christine eventually met David Woolley. The couple married in an outdoor ceremony in Moab, Utah, in October 2023. "It's a fairytale," Christine told People about the wedding.
Almost three years later, she offered another revealing glimpse into just how differently she sees her life now. In a September 28 Instagram post, Christine reflected on spending years under stress without even recognizing what she was experiencing at the time.
She described believing it was normal to feel anxious, make herself small, and keep other people comfortable. Another slide said peace meant not "walking on eggshells in your own house." The final message spoke directly to people who had experienced what she called "survival mode."
"If you've ever lived in survival mode, you know exactly what I mean," Christine wrote. Her caption expanded on the emotional message, describing peace as no longer replaying conversations, constantly explaining herself, or carrying physical tension without even realizing it.
Meri Moves On After a 32-Year Marriage
Meri's painful path away from Kody unfolded differently after more than three decades together. In December 2022, People reported that their 32-year marriage had ended. During a "Sister Wives: One on One" episode, Meri watched footage of Kody saying he no longer considered himself married to her.
Their history was particularly complicated because Meri had once been Kody's legal wife. And over the years, her relationship with Robyn changed, too. During a February 2026 "One-on-One" special, Meri opened up about how her once-close friendship with Robyn had deteriorated.
"She and I had a good relationship, everybody saw it," Meri told host Sukanya Krishnan, according to E! News. "But, you know, that just kind of over the years, disintegrated. There was a lack of trust." That fractured history leads straight to one of the biggest questions hanging over what remains of the Brown marriage today.
One Wife Is Still Legally Married to Kody
Despite Kody and Robyn walking away from "Sister Wives," their exit from television did not come with any publicly announced marital split. Robyn Brown remains Kody's only wife.
According to TV Insider, the couple is believed to still be together, although they have maintained a low profile and have not recently offered public updates about their marriage. They were still married when Season 20 was filmed in late 2024 and early 2025.
An unverified Reddit claim also placed them together in Alaska in September 2026. Kody and Robyn's relationship stretches back more than 15 years. They first crossed paths at church in 2009 before beginning their courtship in 2010.
They spiritually married that year, while Kody was legally married to Meri and spiritually married to Janelle and Christine. Then, in 2014, everything changed.

Kody legally divorced Meri and legally married Robyn so he could adopt the three children she had from a previous marriage. Kody and Robyn later welcomed two children together, Solomon and Ariella.
That leaves Robyn not only as his sole remaining wife but also his only legal spouse. Yet while Kody and Robyn have retreated from the cameras, the other women's romantic lives have continued unfolding very publicly.

Christine is now approaching three years of marriage to David. She posted a new Instagram photo with her husband around the Season 21 premiere, and viewers quickly flooded the comments with opinions about their relationship - and her continued participation in the show.
One person wrote, "Girllll!! Love you but you need to not do this show anymore. I feel like it's affecting your husband. I want to see you and Janelle do a new show. Maybe driving and touring around. But no more sister wives talk or Cody tank."
Another warned, "Don't let this show ruin your marriage! You have a good thing going😊"
Janelle Brown, meanwhile, has publicly introduced a new man in her life. Two days before the premiere, she shared an Instagram photo with her boyfriend, Pete, captioning it, "What happiness looks like."
Followers wasted little time focusing on the new couple. "Can I just say....Pete has really fantastic teeth!" one commenter wrote. Another told Janelle, "You are GLOWING! And we love to see it." A third summed up the photograph simply: "A picture says a thousand words. Pure Joy!"
Meri's romantic future is less defined, although she has also spoken publicly about a man viewers met during Season 20. She met Ron at a speed dating event, and their connection later appeared on the series. Their time together included working at a charity event and riding e-bikes at Zion National Park.
During the Season 20 finale, Meri said she and Ron were still building a friendship. She maintained that they did not date and instead spent time together and enjoyed each other's company. Meri nevertheless acknowledged finding him attractive, and declined to reveal whether the pair had kissed.
Most tellingly, she told Krishnan she felt "very comfortable" around him, according to People. For a television series that began with one man, four wives, and an enormous plural household, Season 21 has opened on a family that barely resembles the one viewers first met.
Kody and Robyn have stepped away from the cameras. Christine has remarried. Janelle has a new home and a new boyfriend. Meri is forging a life of her own.
But as old accusations, broken friendships, and bitter property disputes continue to surface, the Brown family's past clearly has not finished following them yet.
