The Main Men in Nicole Kidman's Life
The Oscar-winning actress, known for her elegance on-screen and off, has shared her life with some of the biggest names in show business — from rising stars to rock 'n' roll royalty and one Hollywood heavyweight who left an indelible mark on her heart.
Nicole Kidman's love life has long been the subject of fascination, mirroring her transformation from an up-and-coming Australian talent into a global cinematic powerhouse. Spanning decades, her relationships, both romantic and professional, offer a compelling look into the way fame, passion, and personal evolution have danced through every chapter of her extraordinary life.

Tom Burlinson: The Older Co-Star Who Became Her First Adult Love
One of the first men romantically linked to the Australian-American actress was actor Tom Burlinson, her co-star in the 1986 film "Windrider." The pair dated for three years after working together, a significant relationship that marked her first adult romance. Burlinson was 11 years her senior.
In a 2020 interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, the actor reflected on their relationship, recalling many "happy times." While rumors swirled that he had proposed and she had turned him down, Burlinson firmly dismissed the gossip, stating that he had only ever proposed to the woman who became his wife, Mandy Carnie.

Marcus Graham: The Heartbroken Young Star Left Behind
In a painfully candid revelation, actor Marcus Graham told Woman’s Day Australia in 2023 that 1989 was a personal nightmare. The reason? The actress he had been dating for two years, Kidman, left him after falling for Tom Cruise on the set of "Days of Thunder."
Despite the heartache, Graham said he held no resentment. They were both in their 20s and hungry to chase their dreams. "I was devastated and heartbroken, but that's the way it goes, isn't it? Why would I want to keep her in Australia and lock her away?!" he said, adding that he learned a lot from that painful experience.

Tom Cruise: A Marriage of Fame, Passion, and the Pain That Followed
In a revealing 2013 Vanity Fair interview, Kidman opened up about what it was really like to be married to Cruise, the Hollywood juggernaut who helped catapult her into the stratosphere of global fame.
Though she had carved out her own success by 1996, it was after filming "Eyes Wide Shut" that her celebrity reached a fever pitch.

Playwright David Hare, who penned the screen adaptation of "The Hours" and the play "The Blue Room," described how hard her life was, not being able to walk down the street normally, yet she seemed strangely untouched by her celebrity status.
He likened her to Elizabeth Taylor. The classic starlet dated Richard Burton, who had notoriously struggled under the weight of Taylor’s spotlight.

"There is something about that sort of existence," Kidman told Vanity Fair. "That if you really focus on each other and you're in that bubble, it's very intoxicating, because it's just the two of you. And there is only one other person that's going through it. So it brings you very close, and it's deeply romantic."
She had married Cruise in 1990, during her early 20s, and with time and reflection, Kidman came to see that relationship differently. What she eventually found with Keith Urban, she admitted, was far more fulfilling.

"I wanted it, but I didn't want it for a while, because I didn't want to jump from one relationship to another," she said. "I had a lot of time alone, which was really, really good, because I was a child, really, when I got married. And I needed to grow up."
Stephen Daldry, who directed Kidman in "The Hours," recalled that her divorce from Cruise in 2001 happened while filming. It was a shattering emotional time that made it even harder for her to embody the character’s breakdown.

Then, in a 2018 essay for The Cut, Kidman revealed her reason for marrying the "Mission: Impossible" star.
"I got married very young, but it definitely wasn't power for me — it was protection," she wrote. "I married for love, but being married to an extremely powerful man kept me from being sexually harassed. I would work, but I was still very much cocooned. So when I came out of it at 32, 33, it's almost like I had to grow up."

Lenny Kravitz: The Secret Engagement Kidman Kept Hidden for Years
It took years of whispers and speculation, but in 2017, Kidman finally confirmed what people had long suspected — she had once been engaged to rocker Lenny Kravitz.
The two had been romantically linked in the aftermath of her divorce from Cruise, but no one knew of an engagement. Until then, Kidman had only hinted at a mystery fiancé before marrying Urban.

In an interview with Net-a-Porter’s digital magazine The Edit, Kidman casually dropped the long-awaited truth.
"Well, I knew Zoë because I was engaged to her father," she said, referring to her "Big Little Lies" co-star Zoë Kravitz. "It's all in the family! I love Lenny; he's a great guy."
Jude Law: A Storm of Rumors, Denials, and Legal Battles
While filming the Civil War epic "Cold Mountain" alongside Jude Law and Renée Zellweger, Kidman spent months sequestered in a remote Romanian village, the kind of setting that stokes romantic speculation. The rumors of an off-screen connection between Kidman and Law ran wild.
At the time, Kidman was still rumored to be with Kravitz, and in a 2003 interview with Barbara Walters on "20/20," she put the whispers to rest. The chemistry, she insisted, stayed on the screen.

"It's like we know each other in a very deep way now. I've kissed the man when the cameras were rolling. You know, so it's slightly unusual," she said. "[...] But nothing gets crossed over into your personal lives."
That same year, Kidman took legal action against the Daily Mail after it published a scandalous story alleging she’d had an affair with Law, who was married at the time. She won the lawsuit, sending a loud and clear message that her integrity wasn't up for tabloid debate.

Still, both actors worked hard to make their brief on-screen love believable. In a 2003 interview with Phase9, Kidman said they collaborated closely and leaned on director Anthony Minghella for guidance.
"It was more up to him to know what he had captured because we were so existing within it that you really are in the hands of the director and you hope that people will buy into it, that people will believe it," she explained.
Robbie Williams: The Flirty Duet That Sparked Rumors but Fizzled Fast
In 2005, whispers swirled around Kidman and British pop star Robbie Williams following the release of their sultry duet, "Somethin' Stupid." The chemistry was undeniable, and the video flirtatious.
But despite the buzz, no romance was ever confirmed. And in a 2014 appearance on "The Graham Norton Show," Kidman explained that Williams had simply invited her to record the song. Though she had just wrapped filming "Moulin Rouge," she admitted she was hesitant.
Singing didn’t come naturally, and harmonizing proved a challenge. However, they recorded it in approximately an hour. When asked if she’d ever consider performing a duet with Urban, Kidman laughed off the idea, saying she preferred listening over singing.
"I'll stick to the acting. 'Moulin Rouge!' was really hard for me because it isn't something that comes naturally to me, and I get literally so... it's frightening to have to sing in front of people," she confessed.
Keith Urban: The Rockstar Who Stole Her Heart, Fought for Love, and Built a Family with Kidman
For the past 19 years, Kidman shared her life with country music superstar Urban, after tying the knot in June 2006. In 2024, the singer honored his wife, who received the prestigious 49th AFI Life Achievement Award, and his emotional speech peeled back the curtain on their fairytale romance.
Urban recalled their first meeting in January 2005 at the G’Day USA gala. Though they exchanged only a few words, he was instantly captivated. Trying to play it cool, he managed to snag something important.

"I did manage to get her phone number on a tiny piece of paper. I carried that number in my pocket for well over a week. I'd pull it out and look at it, then put it back in my pocket. I was scared, I was nervous to call her," he said. Despite his fame, Urban admitted he couldn’t quite imagine being with someone like Kidman.
Eventually, he worked up the courage to make that call. "It turned out that this mystic creature was really just a wide-eyed, vivacious, giddy girl from the Sydney suburbs, and despite being born in Honolulu, she was utterly Aussie through and through," he added.

He also talked about how his bad habits almost destroyed their marriage, but he went to rehab, and she was there for him. "Nic pushed through every negative voice, I'm sure even some of her own, and she chose love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later," he added.
Urban had previously shared more about that first encounter on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 2010, where he remembered how Kidman "glided" into the green room where he and some friends were hanging out during the G'Day USA gala.
When no one else was around, he introduced himself and walked away. It was only after a friend noted that she seemed interested that he went back, and a real conversation began.

In 2016, he celebrated that pivotal moment by posting a photo of their first meeting on Instagram for their anniversary.
The same image came up during Kidman's 2017 interview on "Ellen," where she candidly confessed, "I remember thinking I had such a crush on him and he wasn't interested in me. [...] It's true. He didn't call me for four months."
When asked if he ever explained the delay, she said it was something they simply never talked about. In the end, things worked out just the way they were meant to.
In an interview with People in 2019, Kidman revealed that on her 38th birthday, he showed up at her New York house at 5 a.m. with gardenias — a moment she instantly recognized as life-changing. Their first official date was a motorbike ride to Woodstock.

"It was pretty intense," she said. "I believed by that point he was the love of my life. Maybe that's because I am deeply romantic, or I'm an actress, or I have strong faith as well, but I just believed, 'Oh, okay, here he is.'"
After marrying, the couple moved to Nashville, where Kidman decided to shift her priorities and focus on nurturing their relationship. "There's an enormous amount you have to give up if you want to have a family," she told Vanity Fair in 2013. "You can have a certain career, but you can't be living in Hollywood, [where] absolutely everything, everything revolves around it."

Together, they welcomed two daughters — Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret Urban — who became the emotional anchor of their marriage. Raising a family wasn't without its challenges, but they made it work.
"If you kind of move into each other, you discover and heal a lot of things in each other, too. Well that's what I've found for us — very, very healing, when it's gently, gently done," Kidman shared.

She also reflected on the emotional labor of marriage and motherhood. While it could be a peaceful space, she admitted it was hard to give her life to a partner and children, and also give to her artistic pursuits.
In 2018, on their 12th anniversary, she revealed to Parade the simple secrets behind their enduring connection. One rule? No texting. If they had something to say, they would call. This kept communication clear and left no room for misinterpretation.

Another commitment was total transparency. No secrets. Also, no unsolicited advice to others. Just two people who love being together. No matter how packed their schedules became, they always made space for fun and family.
A Fairytale Crumbles After Nearly Two Decades
The love story that captivated fans around the world has come to a heartbreaking close. On September 29, 2025, news broke that Kidman and Keith Urban had decided to part ways.

According to TMZ, multiple sources confirmed that the couple had actually been living apart for several months before the split became public.
While the couple has yet to release an official statement, as of this writing, insiders claimed that Kidman tried to save her marriage while caring for their two daughters. However, Urban reportedly purchased his own property in Nashville, signaling a painful but permanent separation.
