Fatima Bosch experienced an unexpected episode in the Miss Universe 2025 pageant. The Mexican candidate was attending a meeting prior to the sash ceremony when a difference arose with the director of the organization in Thailand.

The conflict was generated by an unofficial activity requested by the local team. Fatima's response, based on instructions from her national delegation, led to a confrontation with the director, who verbally disqualified her.

The images of the moment were disseminated on social networks, and Fatima spoke publicly to give her version. The reaction that followed included institutional statements, support from other candidates and messages of support from thousands of users.

This is what happened during a pageant activity in Thailand

During an internal meeting, Nawat Itsaragrisil, director of Miss Universe Thailand, asked the contestants to record a video for social networks, aimed at measuring public participation. The activity was not an official part of the competition.

Fatima Bosch explained that she did not participate due to the decision of the Miss Universe Mexico organization, which told her not to take part in the voting. The refusal provoked the reaction of the director, who accused her of disobedience and, according to what was recorded in the video, he aggravated her in front of the other candidates.

The moment got worse when he called security to make her leave the premises. Several contestants accompanied her, in a gesture of support. The videos went viral in social networks and international media.

Fatima responds to the press: "No one can silence us".

Accompanied by Miss Iraq, Fatima Bosch gave statements in front of the cameras. With a firm voice, she said: "I want to say something to all of you. You know you have all my respect. I sincerely love Thailand, I respect everyone and I think you are wonderful people. But what your director just did was not respectful."

Holding back tears, she explained, "He called me stupid because he has problems with the organization. I think it's unfair. I'm here doing everything right, I'm not bothering anyone, I'm just trying to be nice."

Fatima added: "He just attacked me and told me to shut up, saying a lot of things.... I think the world needs to see this because we are empowered women and this platform is for our voices; no one can silence us."

Mexican organization and other voices back her up

George Figueroa, national director of Miss Universe Mexico, expressed his support: "It has been a very strong moment, but Fatima, with her superwoman personality, has managed to turn it around and make a global impact".

Victoria Kjaer Theivig, current Miss Universe, also spoke out: "This has to do with women's rights. I am very sorry. We have to do more. We all deserve respect. This is not the way things should be handled - destroying another woman is beyond disrespectful."

The Miss Universe Organization published an institutional statement on its official accounts: "Together, we are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of respect, safety and integrity for all contestants, staff and stakeholders.

Miss Mexico continues in competition with the same conviction

During a dinner afterwards, Fatima confirmed that she will continue to participate in the pageant. "I am not afraid to raise my voice [...] I am here stronger than ever, I have a purpose, I have things to say, I have spaces to occupy," she stated.

She rejected the stereotype that reduces the candidates to a passive image: "We are in the 21st century and I am not a doll, I am not a doll to be making up, combing her hair and changing her clothes. I came here to raise my voice for all women and girls who fight for causes".

In her final message, she reiterated her commitment to her country: "And well, to tell my country that I am fully committed to that, as on day one and as long as there is Miss Universe, Mexico has a representative. I love them very much".

A message that puts dignity at the center

Fatima took advantage of the moment to leave a reflection with a serene but clear tone. "I hope that all the people who are watching this -every woman- remember that no matter how big your dream is or if you wear a crown, if something takes away your dignity, you should walk away. Thank you," she said.

The statement was widely echoed. Her stance was interpreted as a message against any form of disrespectful treatment, in an environment where contestants represent causes beyond image.

"This guy should get out, he can't be there, it's a very big lack of respect, out," was another of the messages. “You are a woman who commands respect. Our support,” another commenter added.

The comments coincided in condemning the attitude of the Thai manager and praised Fatima for expressing herself without losing her composure. The support was constant and transversal, from her country to other parts of the world.
