Remembering Valerie Perrine, 'Superman' Star and 'Lenny' Oscar Nominee: Her Transformation in Photos
The beloved screen beauty, once known for lighting up some of Hollywood's most memorable films, left behind a story that feels even more moving when seen frame by frame.
On March 23, 2026, Valerie Perrine's death was announced, marking the end of a life that stretched from red carpets to a long private health battle.
She was 82, and while fans remember the actress for her unforgettable screen presence, the images from different chapters of her life tell an even more emotional story.
Valerie's passing was shared in a deeply personal post, which described her as someone who faced Parkinson's disease with "incredible courage and compassion, never once complaining."
The message also called her "a true inspiration who lived life to the fullest."
There was another emotional detail that made the loss even harder to read. The post revealed that her final wish was to be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery, a place tied closely to Hollywood history and to the world where she once seemed so at home.
That wish became the focus of a GoFundMe, which described Valerie as an "Actress. Icon. Fighter." It also stated that she died peacefully at home this past Monday, surrounded by love, after years battling Parkinson's disease.
The fundraiser went on to detail her long history in entertainment. Valerie began as a Vegas showgirl, then made a dazzling leap into film, collecting major recognition that included the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress, a BAFTA for Most Promising Newcomer, and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for "Lenny."
Of course, for many fans, one role remains impossible to separate from her name. In "Superman" and "Superman II," she played Eve Teschmacher with glamour, wit, and warmth that made the character feel larger than the plot around her.
That performance helped make her part of one of the most cherished superhero worlds ever put on screen. Still, what happened after the spotlight dimmed gives this story its real weight.
According to the campaign, around 2011, she began experiencing essential tremors, involuntary shaking that slowly affected her body and the screen presence that had once defined her career.
Parkinson's disease continued to progress, and the acting life she had built was no longer possible.
Unfortunately, this meant that Valerie spent what she had on medical care and fought for 15 years, all while continuing to smile and, notably, "never complain."
A 2023 Hollywood Reporter feature offered a closer look at the actress's final years and described just how much the disease had taken from her. Parkinson's had affected her mobility and much of her ability to eat and speak, yet she remained "still smiling, still joking."
Valerie had lived in the same Beverly Hills apartment for 13 years, surrounded by objects that reflected her past, while her brother Kenneth Perrine described the room as a space filled with memories and said, "That room, to her, is her life."
Another major figure in those later years was Stacey Souther, who became one of her closest companions and caregivers. He took her to doctor appointments, helped make sure she was comfortable, and stayed by her side through the routines of daily life, doing so without pay.
Stacey is the one who created the GoFundMe to make Valerie's last wish of being buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery come true.
But while her passing is definitely sad, it's often better to celebrate her life. Let's take a look at her transformation over the years:
