A Whirlwind Marriage That Left a Lasting Mark

Long before the headlines, Ashley Hamilton was known for his whirlwind marriage to Shannen Doherty. The pair tied the knot in 1993 after just two weeks of dating, a decision that shocked even Hollywood insiders.

But the marriage lasted only five months, ending almost as quickly as it began — and leaving behind more questions than answers.

Doherty's Candid Reflection on a Painful Chapter

Decades after their split, Doherty opened up about that period during her podcast, "Let's Be Clear With Shannen Doherty." On the January 22, 2024, podcast episode, the late "Beverly Hills, 90210" actress didn't hold back as she opened up about the toll it took.

"Towards my last season, I was in a really horrible marriage, and there were things that were transpiring in that marriage that made it very hard for me to consistently be on time for work," she said on the episode. Doherty added, with striking honesty:

"I really take the blame for that. Like I don't blame anyone else for what transpired and my ultimate firing, I do blame myself because I should have had my personal life more together. I should have left a relationship earlier."

But beyond those remarks, Doherty later explained that the situation was far more intense than outsiders realized. She also described dealing with a deeply unstable home life at the time — one involving fear, unpredictability, and a partner struggling heavily with addiction — while also juggling exhausting filming schedules that stretched up to 17-hour days.

According to her account, very few people on set fully understood what she was going through, including serious family issues and the emotional toll of trying to manage a relationship that was, at times, overwhelming and all-consuming.

Those reflections offered a rare glimpse into the emotional strain surrounding their relationship — one that overlapped with Hamilton's own personal battles.

A Long, Public Fight Behind the Scenes

Hamilton's struggles have never been entirely hidden. Over the years, he has been candid about his battles with substance abuse, revealing in a that addiction was only part of the story.

"I suffered from bulimia and anorexia," he shared, adding that food struggles often preceded his drug and alcohol issues. "I believe it was my problem before I got into drugs and alcohol. I used the drugs and alcohol to control the food addiction."

Even during periods of sobriety, Hamilton admitted the fight was ongoing, calling it "the hardest" part of recovery. "I don't have it perfect now. I've been free from bulimia for years, but I still struggle with food, restricting, or overeating. That's been the hardest for me in sobriety."

"When I speak at meetings, I have people come up to me and say I suffer from it, too, but I'm too afraid to talk about it because it's so painful. It's almost like drug addiction is totally acceptable to talk about in Hollywood. But food addiction? Nobody wants to talk about that. It's really shameful as a man to have that," he added.

A Love That Endured Beyond the Breakup

Despite their short-lived marriage, Hamilton continued to speak about Doherty with deep affection. Following her death, he told Today, "Shannen was not only my wife, she was my guardian angel."

He added, "Even though things don't always work out the way we hope they will, she stood by my side during some of my darkest times. My love and admiration for her lasted far longer than our short-lived marriage."

Doherty died July 13, 2024, following a battle with breast cancer, a loss that prompted an outpouring of tributes across Hollywood. For Hamilton, her passing carried an even deeper weight, as he reflected on watching her face the illness with strength. This experience resonated personally, given his own history as a cancer survivor.

"Watching her battle that horrific disease with such stoicism was inspiring to many, but even more so to me since I am a cancer survivor [...] The world lost a free-spirited soul, and my heart aches for her and for all those who loved her," he said. "May she rest in peace," he concluded.

It was a rare glimpse into a connection that, despite everything, never fully faded.

The Medical Emergency That Changed Everything

Then came the moment no one saw coming — or at least, not in this way.

According to TMZ, Hamilton was found last Thursday in an L.A.-area Airbnb, suffering from a medical emergency linked to an unknown substance.

Sources with direct knowledge told the outlet the situation was serious enough to require immediate hospitalization. And here's where the story takes its most shocking turn: the incident was described as an apparent overdose.

Inside the Scare – and the Recovery

Hamilton, now 51, was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Sources say he is recovering, offering a cautiously hopeful update following what could have been a far more tragic outcome.

Given his history — including multiple rehab stints and years of openly discussing addiction — the circumstances surrounding the incident have drawn renewed attention to his long road to recovery.

A Complicated Legacy – and a Fragile Hope

Hamilton's life has always been a mix of Hollywood privilege and personal struggle. As the son of George Hamilton and Alana Stewart — and once the stepson of Rod Stewart — he grew up in the spotlight.

He even shared that spotlight with his siblings on the short-lived reality show "Stewarts & Hamiltons."

A Fragile Turning Point

For now, those close to Hamilton have remained quiet, and representatives have not publicly responded. But the update that he is stable offers a sense of relief amid the uncertainty.

Still, the reported overdose adds a sobering layer to the story, underscoring just how fragile recovery can be, even after years of effort. And as more details come into focus, one thing is clear: Hamilton's journey is far from over.
