Samuel Monroe Jr.'s wife has shared a heartbreaking new update as the actor remains on life support. While his family continues to pray for a miracle, difficult decisions may be looming amid his rapidly declining health.

For weeks, family, friends, and fans have been holding on to hope as Samuel Monroe Jr. has continued one of the toughest fights of his life. Now, a new update from his wife, Shawna Stewart, suggests the beloved actor's battle may have reached an especially critical point.

According to TMZ's initial report on April 27, Samuel had been placed on life support while battling meningitis. At the time, relatives said his prognosis remained unclear as doctors continued monitoring his condition and providing daily updates.

The situation prompted an outpouring of support from loved ones, including his mother, Joyce Patton, who shared an emotional message on Facebook.

"Please pray for Samuel Monroe Jr., my son, who is now on life support. God don't [sic] make no mistakes, but he is gracious, and I am humbly asking for his mercy and grace for Sam. I love you, son. to the moon and back 100 times."

A Long Road Marked By Misdiagnoses

As more details emerged, his wife revealed the health battle had actually been unfolding for much longer than many realized. Speaking about the ordeal, Shawna said, "He went to several different hospitals, where his condition was repeatedly misdiagnosed, and because of this negligence, the meningitis went untreated for eight months."

She explained that Samuel contracted meningitis while filming in Las Vegas roughly 18 months earlier. By the time he was properly diagnosed, she said the infection had spread to his brain and spine.

The family's GoFundMe campaign painted an equally difficult picture, explaining that Samuel's mother, wife, siblings, and close friends had spent months traveling back and forth between hospitals and rehabilitation centers during the nearly year-long medical struggle.

According to the fundraiser, the family also attempted to work with two rehabilitation centers but felt Samuel was not receiving the level of care he required.

New Diagnoses Bring More Heartbreak

Just one day after news of his hospitalization became public, doctors reportedly delivered another devastating diagnosis. Shawna told TMZ that Samuel had developed MRSA pneumonia, a severe and fast-moving lung infection, while continuing to battle meningitis.

Days later, the situation worsened again when his kidneys reportedly began failing. By April 30, Shawna revealed that Samuel had been placed on dialysis in addition to remaining on life support. The actor's family continued seeking support through their fundraiser as medical costs climbed.

Moments That Gave Loved Ones Hope

Despite the grim prognosis, there were moments that appeared to offer encouragement. In a May 22 Facebook update, Shawna shared that Samuel had opened his eyes and kept them open for several hours:

:"Our daughter Brooklynn and I jokingly called Sam 'Sleeping Beauty,' and Sam tried to laugh, but because of the breathing tube that's been surgically placed.. directly into his windpipe through an opening in the front of his neck, he couldn't — though he did smile."

She added, "Please continue to keep my husband in your prayers. Sam still has ways to go his healing."

Another family update shared by Samuel's mother on May 2 described what appeared to be encouraging signs of responsiveness. Those hopeful moments gave relatives reason to believe their prayers might be making a difference.

The Difficult Reality Facing His Family Today

Now, however, Shawna says the situation has become even more serious. In TMZ's latest update, she revealed that a recent CT scan showed Samuel is suffering from encephalopathy and that his brain tissue is deteriorating as a result of his severe medical conditions.

According to Shawna, Samuel remains hospitalized in Los Angeles on life support. Because his immune system has become so compromised, he is reportedly being treated in a negative-pressure quarantine room and is currently receiving six antibiotics.

While some previous updates described him opening his eyes, Shawna now believes those moments may not have indicated recovery. She told TMZ that he had opened his eyes a few times recently, but she believes the response was likely a reflex to pain when he was being moved.

The most heartbreaking part of Shawna's update centers on what comes next. As Samuel's power of attorney, she acknowledged that she must now consider her husband's quality of life as she navigates an incredibly difficult situation.

Although she stressed that Samuel remains a fighter and said she continues to pray for his recovery, she also revealed that no final decisions have been made regarding his future. In a June 2 Facebook post, Shawna shared a prayer reflecting the weight of the moment:

"Dear God, I look to no one else for wisdom. I humbly ask for Your help in making important decisions in my life. I don’t know how to make it without You. Please, give me direction and wisdom so I can make the right decisions."

The GoFundMe campaign notes that if Samuel regains consciousness and is eventually removed from life support, doctors believe he could require around-the-clock care for a year or more.

For now, his loved ones remain focused on faith, support, and hope. She concluded with a message directed toward supporters. "Please continue to pray for Sam. I know God has a bigger plan for him."
