A Father's Grief

Hours after the crash, Duarte's heartbroken father spoke to the Daily Mail by phone, confirming his son's death. "I'm very devastated right now," the 82-year-old said. "I don't have the words to express my feelings."

"We don't know much about what happened," he added. "They are investigating the crash." Duarte had built a life in Miami with his wife, Nicole Valls, whom he married almost five years earlier.

He got his start in investment banking before leaving at 24 to launch George Stone Crab, later earning a spot on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list for turning it into a major stone crab distributor across Latin America.

What Happened in the Final Moments

According to the Daily Mail, the helicopter reportedly plummeted to the ground before impact, then caught fire on contact.

Fred Kabunge, director of Kenya's Aircraft Accident Investigation Department, said the aircraft was completely destroyed by the crash and the fire that followed.

Kenya's Red Cross said the recovery effort was hampered by difficult terrain and an active fire burning at the crash site. Images that have since emerged from the area show the extent of the destruction near the mountain's remote foothills.

Investigators Search for Answers

The operator, Lady Lori Helicopters, confirmed the aircraft was flying a charter route from Suyian Conservancy to Ololokwe when the crash happened. The company said it is cooperating fully with authorities and would share further details when appropriate.

Kabunge said investigators have not yet recovered any electronic component capable of providing flight data. His team has requested satellite imagery from the day of the crash and plans to review the operator's tracking data.
