'Pawn Stars' Rick Harrison, 61, Rushed into Emergency Procedure After Routine Visit Takes a Shocking Turn

The television favorite entered the hospital expecting doctors to perform a relatively straightforward procedure. Instead, they uncovered a problem serious enough to change everything within hours.

Only eight months after celebrating his marriage to Agripina "Angie" Polushkin, Rick Harrison, 61, was at the center of a deeply worrying family announcement on September 4, 2026. The "Pawn Stars" personality's loved ones had gathered around him as a day that should have brought reassurance became frighteningly uncertain... and days later, the family shared another update.

A Hospital Visit Became Far More Serious Than Expected

Rick's family confirmed that Friday that he had undergone an emergency operation. Although their statement offered some welcome reassurance, it also revealed how abruptly an ordinary medical plan had escalated.

Rick checked into the hospital expecting an ordinary stent procedure. Once doctors began, however, they discovered that the problem with his heart was considerably more serious than anticipated.

The treatment he had prepared for was no longer enough. Rick suddenly needed emergency bypass surgery. "He went in for a simpler procedure and they found he needed a bypass," a Harrison family spokesperson told People.

The representative also said Rick was resting comfortably and looking forward to making a full recovery. He was also deeply grateful to the doctors and hospital employees whose care became crucial when the danger emerged.

His loved ones remained beside him throughout the frightening period that no one saw coming, considering past medical experiences. Around two weeks earlier, in August, Rick had posted a photograph after taking a test, writing on Instagram, "Had an echocardiogram this morning and Angie was amazing! @jengielou."

This shows how health must be taken seriously because things can change quickly. Luckily, Rick has someone in his life who recently promised to be by his side in sickness and in health.

His Bride Was Beside Him Through the Frightening Ordeal

The "Pawn Stars" favorite and Angie, who works as a nurse, had been married for only eight months when his health crisis brought their joyful first year together to an alarming halt.

The couple first married at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas on January 3, 2026. An Elvis Presley impersonator officiated the intimate ceremony before the celebration moved to Rick's Rollin Smoke BBQ & Tavern, only steps from the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop featured on "Pawn Stars."

Then, on January 26, they exchanged vows for a second time at Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancun. The destination celebration gave Angie the romantic beach wedding she had dreamed about, with approximately 60 to 70 loved ones watching.

"The wedding is a dream come true for me," she told People. Guests dressed in shades of tan, white, and champagne to complement the cream-colored decorations. Angie walked across a platform over the sand while Bruno Mars' "Marry You" played, approaching the man she called her "lifetime partner."

Rick's stepdaughter Marissa Tomaino handled Angie's hair and makeup, while his son Jake Harrison served as best man. Corey Harrison, Rick's other surviving son, could not attend because he was recovering from an accident that had caused 11 breaks in his ribcage.

The absence followed a far deeper family wound. Rick's son Adam Harrison died from an overdose at 39 in January 2024, exactly two years before the Cancun wedding.

During the celebration, Angie explained that marriage gave her the comfort of knowing Rick would protect and support her. She described it as "a sense of safety and being at peace."

Rick spoke about their relationship in words that became especially significant after his hospitalization.

"Being married is all about having a partner to share everything with, the ups and downs, and knowing you'll always have someone right there by your side to laugh with, to enjoy experiences with and to be still and quiet with, too," he said.

Less than a year later, Angie was helping him through one of those frightening lows.

Serious Illness Had Shaped Him Long Before Television Fame

Although the need for a bypass was unexpected, Rick had faced serious health problems from a very young age.

He developed epilepsy at eight years old and suffered harsh seizures. During an August 5, 2018, appearance on "Life, Liberty & Levin," Rick remembered the physical toll of those events. "I couldn't get out of bed. I couldn't walk. Sometimes I couldn't walk for a week or two," he said in the interview.

Rick also recalled that his family did not have much money. His father, Richard Harrison, who was also seen on "Pawn Stars," served for 20 years in the Navy and spent time in Vietnam. His old man never treated him differently because of the condition.

Meanwhile, his mother tried to supplement the household income by selling real estate. Still, unable to live like other children during his worst periods, Rick turned toward books. His mother visited the library for him, helping to begin the self-education that would eventually become central to his sharp-eyed television persona.

As an adult, Rick used his public profile to help others living with epilepsy. His involvement began when the Epilepsy Foundation approached him about recording public service announcements after someone read about his childhood experiences in his book.

The organization later invited him to join its board of directors. Rick estimated that he devoted a couple hundred hours each year to fundraising and spending time with children, work he described as rewarding.

His hope reached far beyond raising awareness. He wanted the foundation's efforts to contribute to finding a cure.

Rick has therefore understood since childhood how suddenly the body can strip away a person's sense of control. Decades after seizures once confined him to bed, another hidden health danger placed him back in the hands of doctors. Fortunately for fans, there's now some good news.

His Family Finally Shared the Update Everyone Wanted

Three days after his health update, Rick reached an enormously encouraging point in his recovery. On September 7, his family confirmed to TMZ that he had been discharged. He was no longer in a hospital room and had returned home to continue healing.

"Today, Rick was discharged from the hospital and is now resting at home. By all accounts, he's now doing great," the family spokesperson said.

The update brought immense relief after days of uncertainty. Doctors had found a serious problem during what should have been a routine stent procedure, performed the bypass he urgently needed, and finally allowed him to leave their care.

Returning home also placed Rick back within reach of the future he and Angie had been happily planning. After their wedding, they spoke about traveling, searching for a Las Vegas house, and exploring new places together while Rick worked toward earning his pilot's license.

Their honeymoon had originally been delayed by his History Channel filming schedule. The couple hoped to find time for a tropical escape, but their immediate priority is now far more precious: allowing Rick to recover fully.
