Catherine Zeta-Jones, 57, Dazzles in a Champagne-Gold Gown at NY Comic Con — but Her Hand Gesture Has People Talking — Photos

The actress gave a fan convention the full movie-star treatment, though the questions about her appearance soon came with a rather unexpected sci-fi twist.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, 57, brought champagne-gold glamour to the AMC+ Spotlight: "Kill Jackie" event at the Javits Center in New York City on October 9, 2026. Her dazzling dress came with a hand gesture that left viewers asking questions, while her confession about husband Michael Douglas's new memoir proved she can be just as cheeky as she is glamorous.

Champagne Gold, a Thigh-High Split, and Absolutely No Casual Friday

Catherine arrived dressed for an evening of flashbulbs, and honestly, why should a fan convention get any less glamour? Her champagne-gold gown was covered in glittering embellishments, with the fabric falling into a softly draped neckline.

Shoulder cutouts gave the dress a little skin-baring flirtation, while flowing sleeves softened the fitted shape through her waist. There was movement in the fabric, sparkle across its surface, and enough drama to make a director's chair feel like a perfectly reasonable place for a fashion moment.

Then she sat down, and that high split got its own entrance. The opening revealed her legs as she settled into the chair, with pointed-toe bronze heels carrying the metallic palette all the way to her feet.

The styling deserved some appreciation, too. Catherine wore her long brunette hair in loose waves and added sparkling earrings, letting the dress keep the biggest share of the attention.

A substantial ring brought extra shine to her hands, while her dark manicure gave the champagne tones a sharper finish. Holding a microphone onstage, she made those smaller accessories easy to spot, which became rather relevant once people started watching her fingers.

It was a fabulously dressed appearance for a conversation about her new movie, "Kill Jackie." Still, some viewers were much more interested in discussing Catherine's face than anything hanging in her wardrobe.

On Instagram, the reactions included blunt speculation about cosmetic procedures. "Lots of surgery," one commenter wrote, while another exclaimed, "I don't recognize her!" "She's had work done. She doesn't even look like herself anymore," another person claimed. A fourth added, "Somebody's had some work done ..."

But the footage also gave viewers something entirely different to puzzle over. Catherine's hand movement sent the discussion straight into territory that a Comic Con audience would be particularly well equipped to recognize.

Her Fingers Gave the Comic Con Crowd a Sci-Fi Puzzle

In videos from the event, Catherine separated her fingers into two pairs, leaving a gap between her middle and ring fingers. The pose resembled the Vulcan salute from "Star Trek," famously associated with Spock and the greeting "Live long and prosper."

And at Comic Con? Well, that is a hand pose with an audience. A glittering gown might suggest red-carpet elegance, but those fingers brought a little science fiction into the picture.

Not everyone immediately made the connection, though. Under a Facebook video, one person asked, "What hand signal was that?" "What's with the hand sign though?🖐🏼" another commenter wondered. A third echoed the question: "What's that hand gesture?"

The resemblance to the salute offers some context for the shape of her hand, although the footage alone does not explain what Catherine intended. Between the microphone, the dark nails, and that sparkling ring, her hands were already part of the visual attraction.

Yet Catherine had been serving up an even funnier talking point the day before, and this one needed no interpretation. Asked about her husband, Michael Douglas, she delivered the sort of answer that makes a celebrity interview feel like a chat with a candid friend.

Michael Wrote the Memoir, but Catherine Had a Bedtime Objection

During her October 8, 2026, appearance on the "Today" show, host Willie Geist asked whether Catherine really had not yet read Michael's newly released memoir, "One Helluva Ride."

She confirmed it, then explained just how much traveling and work she had been fitting into her schedule. Her answer covered a lengthy production stint before moving through several more stops.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones sit ringside holding hands before the start of the Evander Holyfield versus Lennox Lewis undisputed world heavyweight championship rematch at the Thomas & Mack Center on November 13, 1999, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Douglas looks upward attentively in a dark suit, slate-blue collared shirt, and necktie, while Zeta-Jones watches from beside him with dark cascading hair, bold red lipstick, and a diamond bracelet watch catching the arena lights.

"I finished Wednesday Season 3, shot in Dublin for seven months and I have gone on a Ryanair plane and landed in London, did all of the Kill Jackie stuff then went to Spain and now I am here talking to you on the fabulous Today show," Catherine said.

Seven months filming in Dublin, followed by London, Spain, and the New York interview circuit, helps explain why reading time had been scarce. Even a book written by her own husband was having to wait its turn. And Catherine was super frank about what she wanted to do when she finally got to bed.

"As much as I love my husband, when I'm tired at night, I have no intention of reading about him. At all. But everyone else should," she joked. Oh, Catherine. That final recommendation rescued the sales pitch beautifully, but she had already made her bedtime priorities quite clear.

Michael, 82, released "One Helluva Ride" on October 6. In it, the two-time Oscar winner looks back at his life and career, including growing up as the son of Kirk Douglas and the romantic relationships he had before meeting Catherine.

There is plenty of personal history in those pages, then. His wife simply had not finished working her way through it while promoting "Kill Jackie" and moving between countries.

And this year, she has also been answering questions about looks, health, and getting older. In a September interview, Catherine was asked whether she had changed her diet or exercise routine after 50. “I feel bad because I haven't,” she admitted, explaining that she hadn't significantly altered her habits.

But her strongest revelation was about confidence. “I feel that I have more of a voice,” she said, describing how she had stopped trying to please people who didn't treat her well.

In a conversation with Drew Barrymore, Catherine also discussed learning to be kinder to herself. After decades of worrying about her image, she was increasingly focused on feeling comfortable with who she had become.

But one clip from her "Today" appearance soon sparked a much more personal discussion. In the footage, Catherine appeared in a striking red dress showing off her legs.

After decades of photographs celebrating her famous curves, her latest look prompted viewers to compare the 57-year-old actress with the woman they remembered from the 1990s.

But the reaction wasn't entirely negative. One admirer praised her long, shapely legs and glamorous dress, while another offered a compliment with a reservation: “Looks great but too skinny ❤️.”

That mixture of admiration and concern soon gave way to a much sharper accusation. "So another Ozempic face & body. 😮 😢😩,” one commenter declared, bringing a familiar Hollywood weight-loss rumor into the discussion.

But the criticism didn't stop at her weight. Catherine's face also came under scrutiny, with one viewer making an even more dramatic claim: "She changed her whole face."

The speculation didn't stop there, as other viewers also focused on Catherine's seemingly slimmer figure. One person expressed surprise at the change they believed they noticed, writing, "Omg how much weight she has lost."

From her photos in the late 1980s to her recent "Today" appearance, Catherine's gallery is a gorgeous trip through the years. And with that champagne-gold gown and those much-discussed fingers, her newest Comic-Con pictures make quite the grand finale.
