Stella Luna, 15
Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery welcomed their first child, Stella Luna, in 2009. By the time she turned five, she was promoted to big sister — a transition that came with a few laughs. During a 2015 visit to "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," the actress shared a moment about Stella adjusting to the family's newest member.
When asked how her eldest daughter responded to having a sibling, Pompeo recalled, "Well, she liked her at first, and then she said, 'Is she leaving?' after three months." The star then explained how she reassured her daughter, saying her sister was staying for good. Stella's reply was, "Oh, okay."

That adjustment period wasn't without a few bumps. Pompeo revealed that for nearly a month after the baby arrived, Stella seemed upset every day. But over time, her mood lifted, and she started showing affection toward her sister.

Pompeo shared that Stella didn't hold the baby much in the beginning because the infant was heavy for her small frame. However, she and Ivery encouraged her to do so under supervision.

Beyond her role at home, Stella spent time on the set of "Grey's Anatomy" during her early years. Pompeo recalled that her daughter once expressed an interest in becoming an emergency doctor.

She would often visit the office of Linda Klein, the show's medical producer, and explore the equipment. On one occasion, Pompeo found Stella using a bone drill on a model femur. "They have her doing advanced procedures," she said.

Years later, Stella would once again be seen alongside her mother — this time dressed for a special evening. In January 2024, she accompanied Pompeo to the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Ahead of the ceremony, Pompeo posted a video showing both of them before and after getting ready. "Thank you again, to everyone that made this happen yesterday! We had the best night," she captioned the post on Instagram.
Stella's presence was also noted at another meaningful event in her mother's career. On April 29, 2025, the teenager stood proudly beside Pompeo during the unveiling of her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Sienna May, 10
While Stella often shared the spotlight, Pompeo and Ivery's second child, Sienna, has also made occasional appearances. Born in 2014, she was featured in a lighthearted Instagram post two years later. Alongside a photo of her daughter, Pompeo wrote, "Wait... How many minutes till Greys premiere?????? @greysabc #season13."
In August 2020, Pompeo posted a photo of herself and Sienna, both smiling in front of large green leaves. In the caption, she wrote about her excitement to speak with Senator Ed Markey regarding the Green New Deal and her hopes for a better planet for future generations. She also praised his long-standing work for racial, social, and environmental justice.
The photo drew a mix of reactions focused on the pair's appearance. Several users remarked on how much Sienna resembled her father. Comments included, "Your daughter looks a lot like her dad," "She looks just like your hubby," and "Beautiful girl! Looks just like her dad!"
Others pointed to similarities between mother and daughter. One user noted, "You kinda look alike [sic]," while another wrote, "Beautiful like mother [sic]."
There were also remarks that offered contrasting views. One person stated, "Your children look nothing like you. How sad," while others referred to the two as "Twins."
In the years that followed, Sienna also stepped into the public eye. In February 2023, she joined her mother at New York Fashion Week. The two attended the Michael Kors show together, walking hand-in-hand through the Meatpacking District.

Their outing came around the time Pompeo began stepping away from her longtime role as Meredith Grey after spending 19 seasons on the ABC medical series.
As "Grey's Anatomy" marked its 20th anniversary on air in March 2025, Pompeo appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and mentioned that while Stella had watched the show, Sienna had also shown interest in seeing it.
Despite the curiosity, Pompeo explained that her daughter hasn't seen the show yet. While many of Sienna's classmates already have, Pompeo shared that she isn't quite ready for her ten-year-old to watch it. She noted, without criticizing other families, that she wasn't comfortable with Sienna seeing her in scenes wearing only underwear. Laughing, she added, "That makes for great conversation."
Their conversation then turned to Hollywood itself. After the host described it as one of the strangest parts of the industry, Pompeo agreed. Still, she pointed out one of its more uplifting sides — children growing up there see people who made their dreams a reality, and in turn, they believe their own dreams are possible too.
Eli Christopher, 8
Pompeo and Ivery welcomed their third child, Eli, in 2016. At the time, a representative confirmed the news and shared that "everyone's doing great" as the family adjusted to life with three children.
Soon after his arrival, Pompeo posted a photo of Ivery cradling their newborn son. Alongside the image, she wrote, "Chris Ivery just fell a notch. I've got a new guy," capturing the joyful moment.
Not long after Eli's birth, the couple was seen hiking in Los Angeles. They were photographed in the Los Feliz area with their eldest daughter, Stella, while Ivery carried the infant in a front pack.

A few years later, Eli appeared again — this time in a cheerful video posted by Pompeo in July 2021. In the clip, he was seen smiling and singing outdoors, with a sunny patio and palm trees behind him. The caption paid tribute to rapper Biz Markie, with Pompeo writing, "Bizmarkie left his footprint… Made so so many… too many too count… sing and smile… his contribution was major. He raised the vibration."
Later, Pompeo shared more about how her priorities had shifted. During a December 2022 appearance on "The Drew Barrymore Show," she spoke about her decision to step away from "Grey's Anatomy" and what she hoped to focus on moving forward.
"I feel super happy, but listen the show has been incredible to me and I've loved a lot of the experience," she said. Pompeo explained that she needed a change, saying at 53, her mind felt like scrambled eggs. She added that she had to try something different or risk feeling stuck, noting that one simply can't do the New York Times crossword puzzle every single day.
The mother of three added that after nearly two decades, the timing felt right, "I mean 19 years, that's more than people keep their kids in their house — like people keep their kids in their house until they're 18 and then they send them off to college, so this is like me, like, going away to college."
Looking ahead, the veteran actress mentioned that being present for her children was at the top of her list. She explained, "I have a lot that I'm doing. I have three kids and so I take care of them, and it's really important for me to be around for them and be more present for them."
The family woman also announced her next project, saying, "I'm gonna do a limited series for Hulu in the spring, which is a very cool kind of crazy true story."
Pompeo and Ivery have raised three children largely out of the spotlight, while occasionally sharing glimpses of their family life. Each child has made rare yet memorable appearances, whether at public events or on social media.
Pompeo has spoken openly about balancing her career with being present for her children. After nearly two decades on "Grey's Anatomy," she stepped back to prioritize her family and take on new creative work. Through it all, she has remained vocal about the importance of showing up for her kids while continuing to evolve professionally.
