Behind the gates and greenery of Los Angeles' most coveted neighborhoods, there was a house filled with candlelight, children's laughter, and one night, the deafening crack of a falling tree.

What unfolded inside those walls would quietly redefine everything for Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane, before his passing at 53 after a tough battle against ALS. Let's take a dive into the homes of the actress and her late husband below!

A Beautiful Holiday Glow

As seen in the image above, a towering Christmas tree sparkles in the corner, drenched in warm white lights and sentimental ornaments. Beneath it, Gayheart and Dane's beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, beam in matching striped pajamas, clutching plush toys as if the moment could last forever.

It looks like something out of a glossy holiday spread: effortless, joyful, and perfectly imperfect. But this wasn't staged; it was home.

Traditions That Lit up the Living Room

In another frame, laughter bursts out around a menorah glowing on a wooden table. Gayheart and her oldest daughter jump playfully behind the youngest, who grins widely as candle flames flicker in front of them.

In a softer, color snapshot, the girls lean toward the menorah candles, their faces illuminated by tiny flames. A Christmas tree glows in the background, blending traditions in a way that feels uniquely theirs.

The setting is intimate, filled with hardwood floors, cozy furniture, and the kind of warmth that can't be bought.

From Bachelor Pad to Forever Plans

Long before the homey charm and family breakfasts, there was a Hollywood Hills hideaway. According to an April 2025 video by Famous Entertainment, Dane's early 2000s home reflected a rising star stepping into success.

Tucked away on a quiet street, the mid-century property boasted clean architectural lines, sweeping Los Angeles views through floor-to-ceiling windows, and a sunken living room anchored by a stone fireplace.

It was a true bachelor's retreat, complete with movie posters, vintage guitars, and memorabilia from his first big roles. But that chapter didn't last…

The House That Became the Heart of a Family

After their spontaneous Las Vegas wedding in 2004, Dane and Gayheart began searching for something lasting. They found it in a three-bedroom Los Angeles home purchased for just under $1 million, now valued at around $3.5 million.

More importantly, it became the emotional center of their growing family.

Hardwood floors reflected streaming sunlight, and large windows opened the home to California skies. The kitchen — with stone counters, custom cabinets, and a generous island — became the stage for birthday cakes and holiday mornings.

Meanwhile, in the living room, a grand fireplace glowed beside plush furniture and family photographs.

Upstairs, the master suite offered a private balcony overlooking a lush backyard dotted with mature trees, a spa-inspired bathroom, and a big walk-in closet. Downstairs, a dedicated playroom overflowed with books, toys, and art supplies. This wasn't just square footage; it was childhood unfolding in real time.

Outside provided the perfect backdrop for parties and gatherings on the patio beside the pool, and a charming, small garden.

A Farmhouse Dream in Beverly Hills

In 2010, the family upgraded to a modern farmhouse in the Beverly Hills Post Office area, purchasing it for $2.4 million. Today it's estimated at $5.5 million.

Spanning over 3,600 square feet, the four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom residence blends rustic charm with California sophistication. Wide plank pine floors stretch beneath vaulted ceilings with exposed beams, while river rock fireplaces and beadboard cabinetry in the kitchen give the home a relaxed, country feel.

French doors open to vine-draped decks, a covered porch, and a flagstone terrace overlooking a free-form pool, spa, cabana, and pergola-covered barbecue area. It was made for long summer evenings and loud poolside laughter.

Adding an extra special element to the already striking home, Dane reportedly had a personal creative space that boasted a 150-square-foot custom recording studio.

When the Storm Came Crashing Through

Then came November 2011…

As reported by E! News, Santa Ana winds reaching up to 100 mph uprooted a more than 30-foot eucalyptus tree that smashed through the walls of their Beverly Hills home. The tree ruptured a water pipe, crushed a parked car, and sent firefighters rushing to shut off power.

The family was home. Miraculously, no injuries were reported.

A Courtroom Filing Followed Next

The aftermath didn't end with repairs…

In 2012, Dane and Gayheart filed a lawsuit against neighbor Billy Corgan, alleging negligence over the eucalyptus trees on his property. Another E! News report detailed claims of trespass, nuisance, and negligence. What had once been a serene sanctuary became the center of a very public dispute.

A Home Divided, but Still Devoted

Even after their separation, the house remained the foundation of their daughters' stability. In a November 2025 interview on Broad Ideas with Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen, Gayheart shared, "It's super complicated for me. You know, we've been separated for eight years. The kids live with me 100% of the time." The home, once shared, became her anchor.

A Quiet Refuge Above the Sunset Strip

While Gayheart maintained the family home, Dane's living arrangements quietly shifted during his ALS battle. According to a February 19, 2026, Page Six report, A-list Actor Johnny Depp stepped in, offering one of his Los Angeles homes under a pay-what-you-can arrangement.

An insider revealed, "Eric [had] one less thing to worry about," adding that he was "living basically rent-free in one of the homes Johnny owns above the Sunset Strip. He told Eric to pay whatever he could or — [sic] couldn't for rent."

It was a generous gesture of friendship involving the two who had met years ago through mutual friends. "Johnny wanted to do what he could to ease the financial burden," added the insider.

From bachelor pad beginnings to farmhouse dreams, from a crashing eucalyptus tree to a quiet refuge in the hills, the homes of Eric Dane and Gayheart mirrored the arc of their lives.

And perhaps that's the real story hidden inside those glowing family photos: walls can crack, relationships can shift, but the meaning of home keeps evolving.
