'Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' Actress Wenne Alton Davis, 60, Killed in New York City
"She had a huge love for New York, for acting," her agent said, a tribute that would take on a deeper, more haunting meaning by the end of the day after the actress was involved in an unfortunate incident on a New York street.
Wenne Alton Davis, an actress whose real name was Wendy Davis and also known for her role on "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," was killed on Monday on a Manhattan street. She was 60 years old.
In a statement, Jamie Harris, Davis's agent at Clear Talent Group, confirmed the actress had been killed.
In the statement, the agent said that the actress had a "huge love for New York, for acting, for her colleagues at J.F.K. and, most of all, her family and her circle of friends (which was also huge)."
What the Police Say Happened
Authorities said that the actress was struck and killed by a vehicle minutes before 9 p.m. as she crossed Broadway near West 53rd Street in Manhattan. Police said the driver, a 61-year-old man in a black 2023 Cadillac XT6, was making a left turn when he hit the actress.
He remained at the scene and had not been charged as of Wednesday. Davis suffered severe head and body trauma and was rushed to Mount Sinai West Hospital, where she died of her injuries, police said.
What Davis told her friend hours before she died
The morning of the crash, Davis shared what now feels like a final message with her neighbor and close friend, Edward Reynoso, at her home in Forest Hills, Queens. Reynoso recalled that the actress told him, "I love you, I appreciate you," a moment he described as unusually emotional.
According to reports, the 61-year-old, in an interview, said, "It was so weird to me, because I felt like she was saying goodbye. Now that this happened, it all seems so odd to me."
According to Reynoso, Davis would always text him when leaving or coming home, and he was concerned when he didn't receive a message from the actor the evening of December 8, 2025. "I found it weird," he said. "I was worried. I was texting her and she didn't respond. I'm numb to tell you the truth. I can't believe it."
In addition to gigs in Hollywood, Davis reportedly often posted on Instagram about their love of boxing and how much they enjoyed spending time with their cat, Roxie.
Where Davis built her life and career
Born on October 18, 1965, in Durham, N.C., Davis moved to New York in her late 20s, Harris said. She first pursued stand-up comedy before transitioning to acting. While building her career, she also worked a security job at John F. Kennedy International Airport. She lived in Forest Hills, Queens.
Davis was best known for her 2023 role as a police officer opposite Rachel Brosnahan on Amazon Prime's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel." She also appeared as a driver in "Blindspot," a drama series, in 2019.
She also had roles in "New Amsterdam" the same year and in "The Normal Heart" in 2014. In 2022, she was cast as a carpenter in "Girls5eva" and appeared in two episodes of "Rescue Me" in 2009, among other roles.
Those who knew Davis can only hold onto the work she created and the city she cherished. Her life in New York was shaped by the stages she aspired to, the colleagues she stood beside, and the community she built around her. Now, that community is left to remember an artist whose love for the place she called home was as enduring as the legacy she leaves behind.
