Despite the "Buffy" comparisons in the latest comments, watching Mom's famous work has not always appealed to Alyson's daughters. In that same interview, she recalled an earlier period when they were curious about their parents' screen appearances.

"When they were in elementary school, there was a phase where they both wanted to see stuff that we'd been in, like Buffy or whatever, and they were still too young," she explained.

The actress thought she had found a suitable introduction through George Harrison's 1987 music video for "Got My Mind Set On You," featuring a teenage Alexis. An adorable younger Dad in a music video sounded fairly harmless. The girls had objections.

Watching their father's character try to attract another girl's attention at an arcade bothered them, even though he looked very different from the man they knew. That discomfort extended to the idea of seeing Alyson married to someone else in "How I Met Your Mother."

She recalled their reaction, "And they immediately were like, 'Hmm, we don't wanna watch How I Met Your Mother.'"

For her, that unexpected parental reprieve had its advantages. The actress was especially relieved that they were not requesting "American Pie," her R-rated high school comedy.

Taylor Swift's song "So High School" had made the film relevant to the family again by referencing it, much to Alyson's delight as a devoted fan. Her daughters understood the connection, but the musical mention had not sent them demanding a screening.

"They haven't mentioned that they wanna see it, but they know how exciting it is," Alyson said. "Hopefully, I can just ride it out until they're in college."
