Beyoncé Steps Out with Blue Ivy and Rumi at Knowles-Rowland House Opening – and Fans Can't Stop Talking About the Girls – Photos
What began with proceeds from Destiny's Child's first single became a community landmark before a devastating fire brought its story to a halt. Now, its remarkable transformation has given the people behind it an emotional reason to return to where it all began.
A special family gathering in Houston brought together three generations for a cause close to their hearts. But as footage from the occasion circulated online, fans couldn't get over one particular detail about Beyoncé Knowles-Carter's daughters.
On October 13, 2026, Beyoncé returned to her hometown to celebrate the grand opening of Knowles-Rowland House, a supportive housing development at St. John's United Methodist Church in Midtown Houston.
The superstar was joined by her longtime friend and former Destiny's Child bandmate, Kelly Rowland, her mother, Tina Knowles, and her daughters, 14-year-old Blue Ivy Carter and nine-year-old Rumi Carter.

The gathering was about much more than a ribbon-cutting ceremony. It marked the beginning of a new chapter for a community project with deep ties to the Knowles family and the church that helped shape Beyoncé's childhood.
As reported by USA Today, Beyoncé, Kelly, and Tina attended as special guests, reflecting on the importance of the development and the people who made it possible.
For Beyoncé, standing inside the church brought back particularly meaningful memories. She recalled the support she and her family received from longtime Pastors Rudy and Juanita Rasmus, who helped lead the project.

"This church was our foundation. I was baptized right here," Beyoncé shared. She explained that she had personally chosen to be baptized there because of the spiritual connection she felt to the church, adding that she experienced that same feeling during the celebration.
It was a full-circle moment for an artist whose relationship with the Houston community stretches back decades.
A New Beginning for a Place with Deep Family Roots
According to ESSENCE's Instagram coverage, Knowles-Rowland House will provide 31 permanent supportive apartments for people who have experienced chronic homelessness. Developed by Bread of Life and Temenos CDC, the project aims to offer residents more than just somewhere to sleep.
Alongside stable housing, residents will have access to mental health counseling, case management, substance use treatment, and nutritional assistance. The development also includes 16 apartments specifically designed to accommodate people with mobility or sensory impairments.

Nine-year-old Rumi also sparked affectionate reactions from fans following the family outing. Several viewers marveled at how quickly Beyoncé's youngest daughter is growing up. | Source: Instagram/essence
Residents can remain in their homes for as long as they need, allowing them to build long-term stability while receiving ongoing support. However, the property's history makes its transformation particularly meaningful. The site originally housed the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, a community center and shelter established with support from the Knowles family and Kelly.
According to USA Today, the original center was built in 1999 using funds connected to Destiny's Child's first single. Over the years, the building served Houston residents before sustaining damage during Hurricane Harvey. A subsequent fire led to the facility's closure in 2021.
Now, the former youth center has been transformed into a permanent housing development intended to serve the community for years to come. The Houston Chronicle reported that the $13.96 million project includes a three-story, 18,900-square-foot building containing 31 single-room occupancy apartments.
In addition to its residential spaces, the development will provide life skills training, counseling, substance use treatment, and access to both fresh and shelf-stable food. Residents are scheduled to begin moving into their new homes on November 1, 2026.
The opening attracted several local officials, including U.S. Representative Christian Menefee, Houston Mayor John Whitmire, Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis, and Council Member Carolyn Shabazz. Yet some of the day's most emotional moments came from the women whose names and family history are connected to the development.

Kelly Rowland and Tina Knowles Reflect on an Emotional Milestone
Taking the stage alongside Beyoncé, Kelly appeared visibly moved while discussing the decades of dedication that had brought the project to life. She thanked the Rasmuses for their commitment, acknowledging the lasting legacy they had created through their work in Houston.
Kelly also admitted that she had prepared remarks but ultimately decided to speak more spontaneously, joking that reading from her notes would have felt awkward. Turning her attention to Tina, whom she affectionately called "Mama T," the singer expressed gratitude for the example of generosity and grace she had witnessed growing up.

She reflected on how giving back can enrich a person's life and thanked the donors who helped make the housing development possible. Kelly encouraged supporters to continue contributing to the project, drawing laughter from those gathered as she delivered her heartfelt message.
She also acknowledged Houston's importance in her life, thanked the pastors for their persistence, and celebrated what the community had accomplished. Her emotional tribute highlighted just how personal the project is for those involved. Tina was equally moved.
Standing beside Beyoncé and Kelly, she reflected on the importance of raising young women who understood the value of compassion and community service. She credited the church with helping instill those values in her family, expressing gratitude for the way it had shaped the women standing beside her.
For Tina, seeing the development finally open represented a powerful full-circle moment. Her pride extended beyond the building itself to the philanthropic spirit that Beyoncé and Kelly had carried into adulthood. And that commitment to helping others did not begin with the latest opening.
Beyoncé's Long History of Giving Back to Houston
Beyoncé's involvement in charitable efforts in her hometown stretches back more than two decades. According to the Houston Chronicle, she joined Tina and Kelly in donating $1.5 million in 2002 to establish the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth.
Three years later, following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Beyoncé co-founded The Survivor Foundation to assist displaced individuals and families. Her philanthropic work continued to grow alongside her music career.
In 2013, during the Mrs. Carter World Tour, she launched BeyGOOD, an initiative that works with charitable organizations to provide employment support, clothing, counseling, housing, food, and medical assistance.
After Hurricane Harvey struck Houston in 2017, she established BeyGOOD Houston to support residents affected by the disaster.
During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the initiative organized free testing sites and distributed hot meals to Houstonians. Beyoncé and Tina also personally participated in efforts to distribute food boxes and essential items. Her charitable contributions have extended into education and community programs as well.
In 2024, BeyGOOD donated $100,000 to the University of Houston Law Center's Criminal Justice Clinic. The following year, Beyoncé contributed another $100,000 to Texas Southern University's Ocean of Soul marching band to support scholarships. With Knowles-Rowland House now opening its doors, the latest project adds another chapter to that history of giving back.
But while the development itself was the centerpiece of the October celebration, another aspect of the gathering quickly caught viewers' attention.
Blue Ivy and Rumi's Appearances Set Social Media Buzzing
Among those attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony were Beyoncé's two daughters, whose presence gave the occasion an especially personal touch. The girls joined their mother, grandmother, and Kelly as the family celebrated the milestone together.
And when videos and photographs began circulating, viewers were quick to notice how much the sisters had grown. Blue Ivy, in particular, had people doing double takes. The teenager attended wearing a green Bape jersey paired with heels, while her hair was styled in a high ponytail with cascading curls.

The hairstyle drew comparisons to Beyoncé's own appearance when she was younger, and some viewers found the resemblance so striking that they initially confused mother and daughter. One Instagram user admitted, "Omg I didn't even see Beyoncé beside blue [sic]." Another wrote, "I really thought Blue was Beyoncé 😭😭😭."
A third commenter took the comparison even further, exclaiming, "Blue looks more like Beyoncé than Beyoncé does!!!!!!" The reactions reflected the growing fascination surrounding Blue Ivy's resemblance to her famous mother. Yet Blue wasn't the only Carter daughter turning heads.
Her younger sister, Rumi, attended wearing a dark cardigan over a matching tennis dress, completing the outfit with white sneakers. At nine years old, she also caught viewers' attention, particularly among those surprised by how much she has grown.

One Instagram commenter marveled, "look [sic] at Rumi 😍 she is growing so fast!" The affectionate observations continued in the comment section of a Facebook post shared by Page Six. One viewer focused on the older sister's glamorous styling, commenting, "High heels and big hair." Another singled out Rumi's accessories: "I see you Rumi with your necklaces go girl 😍 [sic]."

The sisters also received compliments for their family resemblance. One person wrote, "They are so pretty, looking like their Mama and daddy!" Another observer pointed to the similarities between the siblings themselves: "She look [sic] like her sis."
The online conversation offered a lighthearted contrast to the emotional speeches delivered earlier in the celebration. For many viewers, seeing Beyoncé standing alongside her daughters was a reminder of just how quickly the next generation of the Carter family is growing up.
Three Generations Come Together for a Meaningful Occasion
Beyoncé also made a stylish appearance of her own, wearing a khaki wrap-around dress featuring a fitted, draped silhouette. Kelly complemented her longtime friend's look in a tan pantsuit with a black top, while Tina opted for a black suit.
The coordinated neutral tones gave the gathering an elegant, understated feel, allowing the focus to remain on the significance of the occasion. During the ribbon-cutting, Beyoncé and Kelly stood among family members, community leaders, and supporters as the project officially marked its new beginning.
The photographs also captured the younger Carter girls participating in a moment that carried decades of family and community history.
For Beyoncé and Kelly, the day was about honoring their Houston roots. For Blue Ivy and Rumi, it was an opportunity to witness that legacy firsthand.
And with fans already marveling at the girls' resemblance to their mother, the photographs and videos from the gathering offered plenty to talk about. From Blue Ivy's striking hairstyle and towering heels to Rumi's youthful ensemble, the sisters each made their own impression.
