The King of Rock 'n' Roll left behind a family whose greatest joys and deepest heartbreaks happened long after the applause faded.

In October 2026, Priscilla Presley, 81, was seen sharing memories of Elvis Presley during a visit to Baesweiler, Germany, with her son, Navarone Garibaldi Garcia. But behind that welcome mother-son outing were years of painful goodbyes, and the woman who once built a life with Elvis had changed in dramatic ways.

Her different appearance was apparent across the years, but the people missing from her everyday life were at the heart of what she had endured. One of them was Elvis' grandson, who eerily inherited his face, but even more disturbing was his mother's way of holding on to him.

And yet, not everything was dark. Two young granddaughters have beautifully reached adulthood after losing so much, and love remained in this family, sometimes expressed through a song, sometimes through a carefully chosen tattoo. And as the youngest generation grew up, even a small marking on a hand offered something new to discover.

Priscilla Learned to Live with Calls That Would Never Come

For Priscilla, grief reached into the ordinary parts of a day. Waking up meant remembering whom she could no longer call and whose news she would never hear again. During a 2023 interview with Piers Morgan, she spoke about losing her mother, her grandson, and her daughter.

Those were three relationships at entirely different places in her life, and each absence hurt. Asked how she was doing, she struggled to offer a neat answer.

"So I don't know exactly how to answer that, because I have my good days and I have my bad days."

She described missing calls from her daughter and wondering how her grandson was doing. Those small, familiar habits survived even when the people at the other end of them were gone. That made the time Priscilla spent with Navarone especially welcome.

According to Entertainment Weekly, they attended a Q&A in Baesweiler on October 20. Priscilla discussed her relationship with Elvis and reportedly signed the town's golden book, a guest book for notable visitors.

She also introduced her son to the audience. Navarone, 39, wore an all-black outfit and spoke warmly about the reception they received. "Thank you for the welcome as well. Everyone's been so kind to both of us."

He was pleased to be traveling with his mother, a simple pleasure that felt particularly precious given the things his mother had endured. Priscilla had already feared losing him, too. Navarone, the lead singer of Them Guns, is her son with former partner Marco Garibaldi. Their relationship lasted from 1984 to 2006.

In a September 2025 interview with People, Priscilla recalled a frightening incident at an animal sanctuary in California's San Fernando Valley. While she and Navarone were petting camels, one bit him on the head.

She described blood covering his face and said the animal's tooth nearly reached his brain. Her fear was immediate: she thought her son might die. Afterward, she had no enthusiasm for another encounter with the animals.

Her support for Navarone also extended through his recovery from fentanyl addiction. Weeks after losing one of the most important people in her life in 2020, he asked for help, and she took him into her home.

For 22 days, she watched him endure withdrawal, staying beside him through the nights. A relapse followed months later, although she said in the September 2025 interview that he was sober. "They have to go through it," she explained.

There was such helplessness in that experience: wanting desperately to ease her child's suffering while knowing she could not do the recovery for him. What she could offer was her presence, and she did.

Her life has been full of heartbreaking moments, and her dramatically different appearance since her marriage to the King has been part of that journey.

But family was definitely a priority, and shortly after losing her mother, Anna Lillian Iversen, in 2021, she had to endure another terrible heartbreak: her daughter's death.

Lisa Marie Built a Family While the World Watched

Lisa Marie Presley grew up as Elvis' only child, with a level of attention she never had to seek. Her relationships attracted headlines, but they also brought the children she loved so deeply.

According to People, she began dating Chicago-based musician Danny Keough in 1985. They married on October 3, 1988, when she was 20. Priscilla definitely approved. "I am thrilled for Lisa Marie. Danny is a great guy, and I couldn't be happier for the two of them."

Soon, there was a pregnancy to celebrate. Their daughter, Danielle Riley Keough, was born on May 29, 1989, followed by Benjamin Storm Presley Keough on October 21, 1992.

For all the extraordinary circumstances surrounding their family, those were beautifully familiar milestones: a wedding, a first baby, a sibling to welcome home. Lisa Marie was becoming a mother while still finding her own way through adulthood.

Her marriage to Danny ended in May 1994, after about five and a half years. That summer, she married Michael Jackson in a private ceremony in the Dominican Republic. The pair had first met nearly two decades earlier, at one of Elvis' concerts in Las Vegas. Lisa Marie was seven then.

When she confirmed their marriage weeks after the ceremony, she spoke with conviction about the life she hoped they would share. "I am very much in love with Michael, I dedicate my life to being his wife. I understand and support him. We both look forward to raising a family."

Four months after the wedding, they appeared as husband and wife at the MTV Video Music Awards, sharing a kiss onstage. The public fascination was enormous, but the marriage ended with Lisa Marie filing for divorce in 1996.

She later became engaged to Hawaiian-born singer-songwriter John Oszajca. They met in May 1999, he proposed that Christmas, and the engagement ended after 16 months. Before that relationship was over, she met Nicolas Cage at Johnny Ramone's birthday party in October 2000.

They went public in May 2001, a month after she and John parted. Lisa Marie and Nicolas briefly split in February 2002 before reuniting. That August, they married privately in Hawaii on the 25th anniversary of Elvis' death.

Priscilla and Lisa Marie's children attended, along with Nicolas' then-11-year-old son, Weston. Yet the marriage faltered within months, and they separated in November. Lisa Marie acknowledged her regret plainly:

Their divorce became final in May 2004. Lisa Marie's fourth marriage, to Michael Lockwood, brought twin daughters Harper and Finley Lockwood in 2008, before the couple separated in 2016.

Her four children connected the different chapters of her adult life, but one of them died much too soon. And just three years later, on January 12, 2023, that family faced another emergency at her home in Calabasas, California.

According to TMZ, a housekeeper found Lisa Marie unresponsive, and Danny began CPR before paramedics arrived. Emergency responders administered epinephrine and regained a pulse before taking her to a Los Angeles-area hospital.

She died that day at 54. Priscilla confirmed the news with a mother's love still at the center of every word. "It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us."

Afterward, Lisa Marie's daughters were left to navigate their own lives without their mother, and Riley would later help preserve the memories she left behind.

Riley Found Her Own Way Beyond the Family Name

Riley entered the world in Santa Monica, California, already connected to one of music's most recognizable families. Yet Elvis himself could only be part of the history she inherited: he died 12 years before her birth.

According to Biography, after her parents divorced, Riley and Benjamin moved between very different households. There were their father's homes in Los Angeles and Hawaii, their mother's Los Angeles home, and Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee.

During Lisa Marie's marriage to her second husband, the children also spent time at Neverland Ranch in California. It would have been easy to imagine that childhood solely through famous addresses. Riley's own description was much more revealing. Speaking to The Guardian, she said, "I grew up very privileged with my mother."

She continued, "But my dad didn't live like that. And I think experiencing both sides has been helpful. My father had mattresses on the floor of his apartments. He lived in cabins and trailer parks. He just didn't have much money."

She knew both the privilege and the much simpler circumstances.

Riley with Her Father

As a teenager, Riley began working in fashion. According to her IMDb biography, she walked for Dolce & Gabbana and appeared on the cover of "Vogue" with Lisa Marie and Priscilla.

Then, she moved into acting with "The Runaways" in 2010. Roles followed in "The Good Doctor," "Jack & Diane," and "Magic Mike," and her later work included "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "American Honey."

She also appeared in "It Comes at Night" and "Logan Lucky," building a body of work that makes her stand out beyond her famous family. But after Lisa Marie died, Riley took on a deeply personal responsibility: finishing her mother's memoir, "From Here to the Great Unknown."

It allowed her mother's voice to remain part of the family's record, including the painful story of losing Benjamin. For Riley, those memories involved her own grief, too. Before she lost her mother, she had already lost the brother who shared that unusual childhood with her.

Benjamin's Resemblance Drew Attention, but His Mother's Love Ran Deeper

Benjamin could remind people of Elvis before he said a word. His face carried such a strong family likeness that even his mother seemed astonished by the reactions he attracted. According to TMZ, Lisa Marie described an appearance at the Opry where people could not help noticing him.

"Ben does look so much like Elvis. He was at the Opry and was the quiet storm behind the stage."

The Spitting Image of His Grandfather

He was also similar to his grandfather in another way: Benjamin pursued music himself, and TMZ reported that he secured a $5 million record deal in 2009. He also had a few acting credits.

Additionally, his mother gave him a place in her music through "Storm and Grace," a song she wrote about him that drew on his middle name. To her, he was the beloved son behind the familiar face.

Sadly, his own life ended far too soon. He died by suicide in Calabasas on July 12, 2020, at 27. Lisa Marie was left grieving her son while trying to remain strong for Riley and the twins, who were 11 at the time.

Her manager, Roger Widynowski, described how deeply she loved him. "She adored that boy. He was the love of her life." In 2022, she even shared a tribute, giving an intimate glimpse of their mother-son relationship. In a post on X, she explained that they had marked a Mother's Day several years earlier with matching tattoos on their feet. The design was a Celtic eternity knot, chosen to express an enduring connection.

Unfortunately, his death hit her terribly hard. Lisa Marie struggled with the finality of saying goodbye. Her memoir, published in 2024 after Riley completed it, revealed the arrangement she made to give herself more time.

According to NBC News, she kept Benjamin's body at home for two months. He remained in a separate bedroom, with the room maintained at 55 degrees and dry ice used to care for his body.

Riley explained, "They told us that if we could tend to the body, we could have him at home, so she kept him in our house for a while on dry ice."

The reason reached back to Lisa Marie's childhood. After Elvis died, having him at home had allowed her to spend time with him and talk to him, and she found comfort in being able to do that. An empathetic funeral home owner helped her arrange something similar for Benjamin.

"It was really important for my mom to have ample time to say goodbye to him, the same way she'd done with her dad," Riley wrote. "And I would go and sit in there with him."

A tattoo artist also visited the house, and mother and daughter received designs matching Benjamin's. The circumstances were unusual, but the longing was painfully understandable. Lisa Marie had loved him through his whole life, and she was struggling to face the rest of hers without him.

For Harper and Finley, his death meant losing their big brother. Less than three years later, they also had to say goodbye to their mother.

Harper and Finley Reached Adulthood with Love Around Them

Before Harper and Finley turned 15, they had experienced two losses that would be difficult at any age. Their father then faced the responsibility of helping them feel secure in a family changed by grief.

In January 2023, he spoke about that responsibility in a statement to People. "Nothing prepares us for such an unexpected tragedy. It is incomprehensible."

His focus remained firmly on the girls. "The most important thing to me at this time is to take care of my daughters, making sure they always feel safe and loved."

By October 7, 2026, there was a joyful milestone to celebrate: Harper and Finley turned 18.

Priscilla marked the occasion with a birthday tribute featuring the sisters standing at the beach in black outfits. Her message was full of grandmotherly affection: "Happy birthday Harper & Finley ❤️."

The new image offered a rare glimpse of the twins as young adults, and people immediately recognized faces they knew. On Instagram, one commenter wrote, "They look a lot like their grandmother 🌹." Another said, "The twin on the right looks exactly like Lisa."

One person wrote, "Happy birthday to the beautiful girls. Hard to think they are 18! 🌹."

The sisters had shared another special occasion with Priscilla in November 2025, when they made their magazine debut beside her on the cover of "EQLuxe." They wore matching white ensembles and cowboy hats, posing in front of their grandmother.

It was an exciting introduction to magazine life, with someone they loved right there to share it. Priscilla had already appeared on a cover with Lisa Marie and Riley; now her youngest granddaughters had a cover memory with her, too.

The birthday comments also drew connections beyond a single relative.

"I can't believe how much Harper favors you and how Finley looks like Lisa and a younger Elvis. Happy birthday x 2! 🎈🎈," one commenter wrote. Another added, "Wow they look like their grandad 😍."

Both twins have Instagram accounts with relatively few posts, although their highlighted Stories included additional glimpses of their lives. One of Harper's revealed a tattoo in an eye-catching location: on her hand. The design was ॐ, the Om or Aum symbol, which carried religious significance.

Its sacred association gave the symbol a meaning beyond decoration, although Harper's own reason for choosing it was not established. Like the other personal choices the sisters shared, it offered a glimpse of who they were becoming as individuals.

Their family likeness delighted people, but reaching adulthood was a milestone of their own. After so much loss during childhood, there was every reason to wish them happiness as they began deciding what came next for themselves.

Priscilla could no longer call everyone she loved, and the youngest members of the family would grow up carrying memories of people they missed. There were still birthdays to celebrate together, and love to give to the family Elvis left behind.
