Carrie Underwood and Chace Crawford

The country star's love life included a brief but widely publicized relationship with actor Chace Crawford.

Crawford gained fame for his role as Nate Archibald on the hit teen drama "Gossip Girl," which premiered in 2007. The Texas native quickly became one of television's most recognizable heartthrobs, known for his clean-cut looks and charm.

His portrayal of Nate — a conflicted prep-school golden boy — earned him a dedicated fan base and solidified his status as one of the show's breakout stars.

Crawford's rising fame intersected with Underwood's own meteoric career in the mid-2000s, following her "American Idol" win in 2005. The two quietly began dating in the early 2000s, though they kept their relationship largely out of the public eye.

Their relationship eventually came to an end, and in a 2009 interview, Underwood addressed the split with characteristic grace. She made it clear the breakup was mutual and free of scandal, saying:

"No one cheated. It plain didn't work."

Carrie Underwood and Tony Romo

The country star's love life includes NFL quarterback Tony Romo. Romo rose to prominence as the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, earning a reputation for his strong arm, playmaking ability, and high-pressure performances.

Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2003, he steadily climbed the ranks to become the face of one of the league's most storied franchises. Known as much for his talent as for his presence in celebrity headlines, Romo became a fixture in the spotlight during the height of his NFL career.

That same year, speculation swirled around whether her hit song "Cowboy Casanova" was aimed at Romo.

Underwood and Romo dated in the 2000s, and their relationship drew considerable media attention, given their celebrity status in the music and sports worlds.

However, in 2009, following their breakup, Underwood reflected on their time together, "We were both small-town people doing very big things, and we relied on each other, dealing with fame."

"I don't know. The phone will ring, and it'll be him, and I'll maybe not answer," the singer added.

That same year, speculation swirled around whether her hit song "Cowboy Casanova" was aimed at Romo, then the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. When asked directly if the song was about him, Underwood responded bluntly:

"No. I would never immortalize a guy that did me wrong. I would never give him that much credit."

Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher

While earlier relationships came and went, the same can't be said about Carrie Underwood's marriage to former NHL star Mike Fisher.

Underwood met Fisher in 2008, but their meet-cute had been a year in the making. During a 2023 interview with Howard Stern, the country star revealed that her bass player had a helping hand in her and Fisher's love story. He revealed:

"I met him through a mutual friend of ours, and he wanted to meet Carrie behind [the] stage of the Opry and I didn't allow it. I was like, 'I don't know who he is, whatever.' So he didn't meet her for about a year. So, he kept trying."

After a year of persistence, Fisher finally met Underwood through a fan meet-and-greet. "Persistence," she remarked. "There's a motivated guy," Stern added.

Underwood agreed but admitted she was cautious. "I'm a skeptic anyway, and I feel like I've got walls up to start with, so the person has to get through those," she shared.

Once Fisher got past those walls, their relationship began to take root. After two years of long-distance dating, the couple married on July 10, 2010. Five years into their marriage, Underwood commented on the pressures many couples in the public eye face.

"Everyone is getting divorced. They're dropping like flies! But we are good. It helped that we were both established before we were married. Neither one of us could be like, 'I didn't know it would be like this!'" she said.

For Underwood, becoming a mother was a profound shift.

When Stern asked in 2023 whether it was hard to be married to someone as famous and busy as her, Underwood responded, "I mean, I don't think so because it's not like he did nothing. He made his. He worked hard at what he did for, you know, 20 years. He was playing; I was touring. It was craziness when we were both doing what we do."

Despite the demanding nature of their careers, the couple found balance through their shared values. In a 2020 video interview, Underwood said, "We learn from each other, and we have spirited discussions about things that we disagree on, but at the end of the day, we love each other very much." Fisher added:

"That's where faith comes in — I think it gives us kind of a center ground where that's the most important thing in anything. And then your differences, if they're rooted in that...there's always a way. And that's usually — it always is — God working in it."

However, their differences were significant in the beginning. One of them was that Fisher had always envisioned family life, while Underwood hadn't. "I never thought about getting married or having a family," she admitted. "I've always kind of done well, kind of by myself."

Fisher, by contrast, said, "I grew up with three other siblings, and I had a great mom and dad, and I think that I just wanted something like that." In the end, the couple went on to welcome their first son, Isaiah, on February 27, 2015.

For Underwood, becoming a mother was a profound shift. "I was never good with other people's kids — why would I be good with one of my own? But it was like, you know, the second Isaiah was born, it was like, 'Oh my gosh, I'm in love. I'm in love,'" she recalled.

Fisher reflected on that day as well, "I remember [the] delivery room — I went with Isaiah after he'd just been born, and it was just me and Isaiah. It was just emotional…just praying for him and…greatest, just one of the greatest gifts ever."

While Carrie Underwood's divorce rumors have circulated over the years, her relationship history shows a clear progression toward lasting stability. After early breakups with Chace Crawford and Tony Romo, Underwood found long-term love with Mike Fisher — grounded in shared values, mutual respect, and faith.
