Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe's 22-year-old son turned his Nashville film premiere into a family affair, but it was his look that got people talking.

Deacon Phillippe stepped onto the Nashville Film Festival red carpet with his mother, sister Ava Phillippe, and grandmother Betty Reese for the world premiere of "Brother Save Us."

The family gathered in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sept. 26, 2026, as Deacon celebrated the premiere of his first feature film. Their looks took three distinctly different directions.

Deacon chose a coordinated dark brown suit with a subtle sheen. His relaxed-cut jacket and wide-leg trousers were paired with a brown crew-neck shirt, creating a tonal look from head to toe.

Black shoes supplied the strongest contrast, while his brown hair was swept back with volume. The restrained styling kept the focus on the warm color and relaxed silhouette of his suit.

Reese went in the opposite direction with a crisp black-and-white combination. She wore a fitted white sleeveless top with a softly curved neckline, flowing black wide-leg trousers, and pointed black heels.

Her blonde hair fell past her shoulders in loose, defined waves. She kept her accessories minimal with a bracelet and a small black handbag in the group photo.

Ava introduced softer colors in a short, fitted slip-style dress. Fine diagonal stripes in muted beige, tan, orange, green, and pink gave the spaghetti-strap design a retro-inspired finish.

Her blonde hair was styled in voluminous curls with a side part and face-framing pieces. Small tattoos were also visible on her arms.

In another discussion, the comparisons continued. Someone else shared, "Reese looks good! Deacon is mom's face, Ava is mom's smile. Sweet."

The reactions revived a question that has followed the siblings for years: Which parent do they resemble most?

According to IMDb, Deacon was born on October 23, 2003, in Los Angeles, California. His Nashville appearance came just weeks before his 23rd birthday.

His father's own answer to the resemblance question makes the new comments particularly interesting. During a September 2021 interview with E! News, Ryan acknowledged similarities between himself and his son.

"Obviously, there is a father-son resemblance," Ryan said, "but he actually looks a lot more like Reese's side of the family. Ava looks more like mine."

He also disagreed with the common media comparison that presents the siblings the other way around.

"Quite often, the interpretation in the media is that she looks exactly like her mom and he looks exactly like me, but I think we both feel differently about it," he said.

His next remark also closely echoes one of the recent Instagram comments. Ryan also pushed back on comparisons that cast Deacon as his younger double. With a joke, he said his son was "way better looking than I am."

Five years later, the Nashville photographs renewed those comparisons. But Deacon was on the red carpet for a milestone of his own.

"Brother Save Us" marks his feature-film acting debut, following earlier appearances in two episodes of "Never Have I Ever" in 2022 and flashback scenes in "Motorheads."

The premiere also came months after another milestone. Deacon graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in May after studying recorded music at the Clive Davis Institute.

Speaking with Variety about finishing college, he reflected on the value of completing his education.

"That was a really big thing, and I think I'm really glad I was pushed to make sure I got that done," he said. "I'm beyond grateful for my education, and I think it's provided so many things."

His studies at the Clive Davis Institute also carried over into the film. Deacon said he wrote the end-credits song with two college friends and recorded it with them at the school's state-of-the-art studios.

As he builds a career across music and acting, Deacon has also acknowledged the advantages and assumptions that come with following his parents into the entertainment industry.

"I acknowledge that I'm extremely lucky, but you know, at the same time, I hold myself to a standard," he said.

Rather than trying to answer every judgment about his background, Deacon said his focus is on becoming the best version of himself and working as hard as he can.

He also acknowledged that people will make assumptions regardless, leaving him to concentrate on doing his own work and putting in the effort.

"Brother Save Us" carries a personal connection for him as well.

Written and directed by first-time filmmaker Jesse Behrenwald, the sci-fi thriller follows a farmer in a dystopian America who tries to save his family's farm while protecting his younger brother, played by Thomas Murphy Molony, as a conglomerate replaces human workers with AI bots.

The relationship between the brothers reminded Deacon of his younger brother, Tennessee Toth, Reese's son with ex-husband Jim Toth. "I just remember feeling surprised that someone could write exactly how I feel about my little brother," he said.

He pointed specifically to the bond at the center of the story: "That depth of love in a script is just something you rarely get to see."

With "Brother Save Us" marking his first feature-film role, the Nashville premiere gave Deacon a milestone to celebrate with his family by his side.
