From Struggle to Joy: The Road to Parenthood Was Anything but Easy

The Whites' journey to parenthood was far from simple. Their path was marked by six long years of setbacks, medical emergencies, and agonizing uncertainty.

Drake — best known for his soulful Southern vocals — suffered a stroke live on stage in 2019, a terrifying moment that nearly shattered everything. In 2020, Alex was hospitalized and learned she was living with type 1 diabetes and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), a rare neurological disorder.

"We've been through so much, from my having a stroke on stage to Alex being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and having an autoimmune disorder. And then this was just something else that tested our faith and tested our strength," Drake shared in an emotional 2022 interview with People.

Despite their hardships, the couple never gave up. They turned to in vitro fertilization (IVF) in 2022, eventually creating seven healthy embryos — a beacon of hope during their darkest days.

Alex received the call confirming she was pregnant while standing in a Costco parking lot. This was a moment she described as divinely timed. She told the magazine:

"I can't imagine, had God blessed us with a child then, and me — the nurturer that I am—having to split my time as a mom and a wife. I would have been so torn and stressed and anxiety-ridden had I had to do that, and it was like the Lord knew what was coming and what we needed in that moment."

A Miracle Arrives – And Signs from Heaven Follow

In January 2023, their prayers were answered with the birth of their first child, William Hawk White. His name carried spiritual significance: hawks had frequently appeared during their fertility journey, which the couple took as a holy sign from above.

"We are over the moon excited to have our baby earth side with us. It is truly life's biggest blessing and such a holy moment in our lives [sic]," they told the outlet.

With Hawk in their arms, the couple flourished in their new role as parents. And their family's joy grew again with a joyful Instagram announcement: a baby girl was on the way. "Hawk's big brother duties are about to begin! We're excited to welcome a baby girl to our family this November," Drake wrote with excitement.

Then the country crooner honored his wife of over a decade with a loving tribute for their anniversary, writing, "Happy 11th Anniversary @alexm_white! Life is better with you in it! 💛"

A Heartbreaking Update No One Saw Coming

But on September 7, 2025, Alex returned to Instagram — this time, not with joy, but with unspeakable sorrow. The couple's second child, baby Della, was gone. Alex revealed:

"On Sunday, August 31st. Our precious daughter, Della Elizabeth White, went peacefully to be with Jesus. The Lord has been so near and close to us during this difficult time. He has held us up and sustained us through it all."

Born at 8:52 a.m. that Sunday and passing just 20 minutes later, Della's brief time on earth has left a date forever etched in sorrow.

For a couple who had already walked through fire and emerged with faith intact, the loss of baby Della is a cruel and devastating turn. What was meant to be a season of celebration has instead become a time of mourning, their joy replaced by an ache words can scarcely capture.
