Inside Carrie Underwood's 400-Acre Farm Life — and the Other Home She Left Behind — Photos

The "Before He Cheats" singer traded a villa with a fantasy dressing suite for a farm where even the chickens dressed up, but one terrifying night made leaving the old luxury behind much easier.

Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher built their family life around two extraordinary Tennessee homes, from an elegant Brentwood villa to their sprawling 400-acre retreat in Franklin.

But before the bottle-fed lambs and homegrown dinners, a routine trip outside ended in surgery, leaving Carrie unsure how her face would heal, and it preceded troubling complaints about who was getting through her neighborhood's gates.

The Brentwood Villa Knew How to Make an Entrance

Before Carrie became quite so enthusiastic about enormous vegetables, she bought a house with enough glamour to satisfy a country superstar. She purchased the Italian-style villa in Brentwood, Tennessee, in 2007, three years before marrying Mike in 2010, and the place certainly looked ready for its famous owner.

According to Architectural Digest, she paid $1.352 million for the property, which stood inside a guard-gated golf development. Built in 2000, the three-story house offered 7,083 square feet, four bedrooms and six bathrooms, with views toward rolling hills near the first tee of a private course.

Whitewashed brick and a stacked-stone entrance gave the exterior a romantic, European feel, while clipped boxwoods followed a sweeping curved driveway. Add the steep rooflines, and yes, this was a rather fabulous place to pull up with the groceries.

Inside, the foyer delivered the full grand-house welcome: a double-height ceiling, a crystal chandelier, and a curved staircase with wooden treads and decorative ironwork. The formal dining room sat a few steps below the entrance, where French windows looked toward the front of the property.

The main living room was equally big, with towering windows framed by deep navy curtains and a carved marble fireplace that deserved an appreciative pause. Arched niches and warm finishes softened the scale, giving the room plenty of drama without sacrificing somewhere lovely to sit.

The kitchen had a substantial central island with raised bar seating, surrounded by wooden cabinetry and dark counters. As Realtor.com described, stainless-steel appliances included a wine refrigerator, while a breakfast nook and adjoining family room made room for more relaxed meals.

That family room came with another fireplace, built-in cabinets, and access to the patio. The house also included a game room, and its finished basement supplied a den, gym, and wet bar, with heated marble floors adding an indulgence the feet could appreciate.

Her Dressing Suite Deserved a Standing Ovation

For anyone already admiring the downstairs rooms, the primary suite offered a very persuasive reason to keep exploring. The bedroom had its own gas fireplace and generous windows, while the bathroom centered on a deep Jacuzzi-style soaking tub with two vanities nearby.

Then there was THAT dressing suite. A spiral staircase connected the primary closet to an enormous dressing room on the floor below, giving clothes and accessories considerably more architectural attention than most of us could dream of providing.

Cream display shelves and illuminated niches surrounded a pink tufted seat, with mirrored surfaces catching the light. A rolling wooden library ladder helped complete the fantasy, because apparently a truly committed shoe collection deserved equipment.

Marble flooring and dedicated displays gave handbags and heels their own beautiful surroundings. Beyond the storage, a Hollywood-style illuminated vanity and separate lounge area offered space to settle in and get ready, with crystal chandeliers keeping the occasion suitably glamorous.

The outdoor spaces were awfully tempting, too, with tiered stone terraces, iron railings and a circular fire pit. On the covered porch, rocking chairs sat beneath a ceiling fan, looking toward the golf course and surrounding greenery.

Yet Carrie and Mike's social media accounts also captured the domestic warmth beneath those grand finishes. Comfortable sofas gathered around fireplaces, dogs occupied the cushions, and family rooms made space for a young child's everyday life, giving the villa a sweetness that no chandelier could supply.

The Night Outside That Changed Everything

That familiar home became the setting of a frightening accident on November 10, 2017, when Carrie went outside to take her dogs out. She fell, broke her wrist, and suffered facial injuries serious enough to require 40 to 50 stitches.

Speaking to Hoda Kotb on "Today," she explained, "I just fell. I just tripped taking my dogs out to do their business. It could happen to anybody."

The singer continued, "There was one little step that I went to catch myself on, and I missed."

Carrie's wrist required surgery, and she had to pull out of the Country Rising benefit concert at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. While the broken wrist initially became public, she took more time before discussing what had happened to her face.

In a message to her fan club obtained by People, she wrote, "It's crazy how a freak random accident can change your life." Seven weeks into recovery, she still faced uncertainty about how she would look.

As she looked toward 2018, she also prepared people for her eventual return to the camera. "And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different."

By a Mother's Day event in New York City for CALIA by Carrie Underwood that spring, she offered a reassuring update: "I feel great." But recovery was only part of what the couple had been dealing with at their address.

According to a People source, security concerns also contributed to their interest in moving. "They are completely done with the neighborhood. The decision came after her fall," the source said in 2018.

The insider added, "They've been having a lot of issues with neighbors letting people in the community to look around and it all escalated after the fall."

By October 2018, a moving-truck photograph Mike shared suggested the family was leaving. The villa went on the market in 2019 for $1.45 million, while a much larger patch of Tennessee offered somewhere more private to begin again.

Their Franklin Dream Had Been Growing for Years

The farm was a long-planned project, with land purchases beginning in 2011, rather than something hastily found after the accident. According to Realtor.com, Carrie and Mike acquired the property in two transactions totaling $3.2 million.

Across 400 acres in Franklin, they developed a custom home with multiple barns and private horse facilities. A lake, chicken coop, and vegetable gardens made this an address with considerably more going on than an impressive driveway.

Even while designing the house, Carrie knew which comforts she wanted most. In 2016, she told Country Living, "My must-haves are a wood-burning fireplace, a porch swing, and rocking chairs."

The land looked beautifully suited to that wish list, with black rail fencing tracing green pastures beneath open skies. A weathered timber barn had a warm red metal roof and cupola, while an American flag and a honey-colored wooden outbuilding completed the pastoral setting.

Inside, tall grid windows flooded the rooms with light, which fell across pale, wide-plank floors and soft neutral furniture. Iron stair rails gave the airy spaces definition, and the overall effect was the sort of comfortable elegance that made staying home look extremely appealing.

The main house included several bedrooms and bathrooms, living rooms and a basement. Carrie also retained a walk-in closet with floor-to-ceiling storage for clothes and accessories, because loving farm life did not require surrendering every fabulous pair of shoes.

The family glimpses on social media also made those interiors especially inviting: children dancing in the living room, birthday celebrations and dogs lounging together in sweaters. These rooms had space for the everyday happiness Carrie seemed so determined to protect.

The Farm's Cutest Residents Had Busy Schedules, Too

Beyond the house, bright pine-lined stalls and fresh bedding provided a snug setting for newborn lambs. Carrie cradled and bottle-fed the little arrivals, while curious donkeys leaned over fences nearby, looking perfectly capable of interrupting whatever else she had planned.

Chickens enjoyed sunny runs, and some even appeared in TINY BOW TIES. Honestly, a well-accessorized chicken was a lovely reminder that the family had not lost its sense of fun among all those chores.

The broader animal household included cows and horses, along with sheep, ducks, and other poultry. The singer, 43, and Mike, 46, shared the farm with sons Isaiah, 11, and Jacob, 7.

Keeping everyone cared for involved real work, with extra hands when the family traveled. Speaking to Fox News Digital after a Disney-themed "American Idol" episode back in April 2026, Carrie explained that a farm manager helped care for the sheep and horses during her absences.

"We do as much as we can, but I'm obviously not there all the time, and neither is my husband, so we do have help," she said. She also believed the property could provide much of what they needed if she had enough time to devote to it:

"I think if I had to, I could be self-sustained at home. I love growing things."

Her Greenhouse Gave Her Plenty to Brag About

Carrie and Mike started working on the garden after moving to the farm, then made more substantial progress during the pandemic in 2020. By 2023, she was working with Epic Gardening on a greenhouse, taking her enthusiasm for homegrown food into a rather impressive new space.

As Hello! detailed in 2024, the 16-by-28-foot greenhouse helped her grow produce throughout the year. L-shaped, rectangular, and round beds filled the interior, with more raised beds outdoors and a potting bench positioned on the south side between citrus trees.

Herb beds and seeding tables supported an assortment of crops, including arugula and chives. Elsewhere, her growing efforts extended to carrots, beets, radishes, and tomatoes, alongside wild strawberries, zucchini, squash blossoms, mushrooms, and watermelons.

The orchard supplied apples and peaches, with blueberry and blackberry bushes adding to the harvest. Hens contributed fresh eggs, making the walk back to the kitchen a wonderfully productive trip.

In 2024, she celebrated her first mandarins with an enthusiasm that practically leaped off the screen. "Ahhhhh!!!! Picked my first mandarins today! I'm so excited!!!!" she wrote in an Instagram story, also showing off greenhouse-grown limes.

Hello! estimated her fortune at $120 million that year, which made the joy over homegrown citrus particularly charming. Apparently, a beautiful little harvest could still compete with the pleasures of superstar money.

Her Italian heirloom tromboncino squash provided an even bigger gardening triumph after she planted seeds in summer 2025. She admitted, "I'm a lazy gardener, and I just throw seeds in the ground and hope for the best."

Only one germinated, but it made itself useful: that November, she showed off five enormous squash, some nearly reaching her own height. "We'll be eating these all winter!" she wrote, with quite understandable pride.

Freshly pulled beets and giant carrots offered their own colorful rewards, while pergolas and white picket accents gave the growing spaces extra charm. Indoors, wooden tables filled with jars and sage-green pantry shelves stored the results of her canning efforts.

Carrie made applesauce and preserved produce, with crocheting among her other home pursuits. During a 2023 appearance on "The Dr. Josh Axe Show," she explained, "We eat what we have. We eat seasonally. It all tastes delicious because it's food."

For all the satisfying harvests, she also loved the experience of growing something from nothing. As she told Epic Gardening, "It feels like little miracles every time I get something."

Cinderella's Ball Ended With Some Very Messy Chores

With that much happening at home, the switch to television glamour could hardly have been more dramatic. When Us Weekly caught up with Carrie at the April 27, 2026, taping of "American Idol" for its Taylor Swift night, she had a fairy-tale comparison ready.

"When I'm away [for work], I'm like Cinderella at the ball," she said. "I'm a princess, and it's great."

The homecoming involved rather less sparkle. "And then I come home, and I'm covered in dirt [and] poop. It's just the polar opposite," she explained.

"I'm cleaning up after everybody and barefoot in the kitchen," Carrie added. "I wouldn't have it any other way."

Her orchard offered a place to pray as well, although one visit in 2025 included an unexpected encounter with a rat snake in a blueberry bush. She described being surprised shortly after beginning her prayer, then reflected on faith and the way trouble could appear even when she felt close to God.

Carrie finished praying and continued her morning, leaving the snake to its own business. Even a peaceful patch of blueberries apparently came with occasional interruptions.

Her Sons Gave Mom an Ordinary Job Title

Carrie's fondness for rural life reached back to her Oklahoma upbringing, well before her 2004 audition for the fourth season of "American Idol."

And becoming parents brought a different challenge for Carrie and Mike: giving their children an ordinary upbringing around their extraordinary work. At home, breakfast and packed lunches took priority, with school runs forming part of the routine.

Speaking to SiriusXM, Carrie said, "We eat dinner at least five nights a week at the dinner table, and it's something I cooked." She added, "I don't know if it's good or not, but we ain't starving."

An insider speaking to Us said Carrie loved teaching the boys to grow vegetables and care for animals. "She loves her career and creating and performing, but as she has said, that's not her real life. Her real life is at home with her family."

Their Country Happiness Still Required Some Compromise

Protecting that family time took effort, particularly when both parents had demanding careers. Mike played for the Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators, briefly returning from retirement in 2018, and an insider described balancing their different paths as the couple's biggest relationship struggle.

Carrie returned to "American Idol" in March 2025 for season 23, becoming the first winner to join the judging panel. Alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, she found a workplace she enjoyed, telling Us in April 2026, "I feel like everybody is very respectful, and we have fun. And life's too short not to, you know?"

Her 72-show "Reflection" residency in Las Vegas ended in April 2025 after nearly four years. Mike and their sons traveled with her, but an insider said the arrangement required a major lifestyle adjustment and that Carrie needed a break, even though she had enjoyed the engagement.

Her 2026 work included launching wellness brand HiNote, with a short summer tour also on her calendar and Wildlands Festival in Big Sky, Montana, among the planned stops. At home, she worked with longtime trainer Eve Overland and liked running outdoors, while her local circle included close friend Ivey Childers, who was married to her bandleader.

Mike remained retired from hockey while pursuing business interests and devoting considerable time to hunting and fishing. That last enthusiasm presented an obvious difference between him and Carrie, a vegetarian whose affection for animals was abundantly clear.

In their web series, "Mike and Carrie: God & Country," Mike admitted, "Carrie does not like hunting one bit." She replied, "If he could be a vegan/vegetarian, my life would be almost perfect."

They also experienced much deeper pain, including three miscarriages between the births of their sons. Their faith helped them through those experiences and the difficulties of spending time apart. The Us insider described Mike as more reserved and conservative, with Carrie more open-minded, while emphasizing the beliefs they shared and the compromises they made.

"As supportive as he is of her career, he's a guy who wants normalcy," the source said. "They are a very traditional couple living a not-so-traditional life."
